Belichick's been accused of outsmarting himself on many occasions.

That said, I think we can all concede he's the best NFL coach in modern history, and probably ever. If our Superbowl aspirations rest on getting Bill Belichick, or with outcoaching him, then we have no realistic Superbowl aspirations.

My point was more along the lines that we should be able to have success with lesser players here and there... now and again.... just need JG to be 1/4 as smart as BB.

I'd say we're having a fair bit of success right now, with a roster full of lesser players not-named-Sean-Lee on defense. Really, if we even up the talent on that side of the ball here the next three years, we ought to be in a very good position to legitimately compete for the championship every season for the next 4-5 years. But we gotta upgrade the defensive talent.

If that's the kindest way you can put it, I'd say your analysis is off.

Most objective analysts would say that Dallas is a legitimate contender in the NFC right now. And by virtue of the fact that they're young and now have young stars on offense who are developing, most would say they have a fairly wide window. That's not the same thing as saying they've actually accomplished anything yet, but then, nobody here is suggesting that, either.

want to see dallas accolades and was relevant, blow off the VCR. anyone who tells you different is trying to sell you something. Dallas has been stuck at a hump, looks at the hump and says "yup thats a hump"

I guess we just don't see it the same. I suspect more people see the team as competitive right now than see it stuck at a hump. It doesn't much matter. They need to address the defensive talent, either way, if what we both want to see is going to be likely to happen.

Too bad the one stab at it from the organization so far is Damontre Moore.

We are not that far off, that is what is upsetting.

Get a Chris Long, Elvis Dumervil or Connor Barwin, I would feel a lot more prepared and comfortable for getting even better in April.
I agree . We need at least one edge rusher. That could make a huge difference.

Will that come in the draft or will DLaw come back strong or will Tapper or Smith light it up ? We might already have at least part of the answer on the roster but I'd still go defense early and often in the draft,

i think the facts back up the claim. There was competiviness after the major screw up, If not for that, would have won. Coaches should have been fired, but, what can we do, its not an organization thats built for the long haul of winning, making money comes first. winning, distant second.

My interpretation of the same facts differs quite a bit from yours, though. And, not surprisingly, I think the facts back up my interpretation better. Either way, though, since our coaches will not be fired, it's moot. The more realistic solution is to address the lack of defensive talent and see if that gives the necessary boost. If ti does, perhaps your interpretation of being built for winning will change, too.

DL in general is not bad--we need to upgrade the pass rush with the DL, LBs, and even DBs. If we get more pressure on passing downs, the secondary (whoever that turns out to be) will look much better.

I think 2014 and 2016 made it very clear - as if we need any reminders.

We need DEFENSIVE PRESSURE FROM OUR DE'S!!!!

It's the reason we beat the Lions and it's the reason we lost to the Packers - TWICE!

The offense is set and good enough to get us to the Super Bowl.

The defense is not. We need pass rush if we're going to beat a quarterback like Rodgers or Wilson or even Matt Ryan (which is what the Patriots did).

The secondary did its part, but it can't cover forever. We need a pass rush. The evidence is so overwhelming it should jump out of your computer and sack you if you're not convinced of it.
We cwetainly need rush but the secondary that did its part is signing else where
