My interpretation of the same facts differs quite a bit from yours, though. And, not surprisingly, I think the facts back up my interpretation better. Either way, though, since our coaches will not be fired, it's moot. The more realistic solution is to address the lack of defensive talent and see if that gives the necessary boost. If ti does, perhaps your interpretation of being built for winning will change, too.

we ll see at the end of the season when you are whooping it up because we made no impact.

I don't "whoop up." I do keep seasons in context, because I've seen how these things work and can separate what I want to happen from what's likely to happen.

Which is why I'm not somehow caught by surprise each year when what's unlikely to happen doesn't, in fact, end up happening.

It's also why I'm not surprised when people who can't separate wants from expectations embarrass themselves with unnecessary melodrama every offseason.

with all the things this team is not a superbowl team this season they are just not good enough on defense and coaching injuries loss of players tougher schedule that includes lots more defensive teams who when the played last season they struggled to win the games until they prove they can win in the playoffs and be a consistent winning team they are what they are a middle of the road team who melts down in big games

So depressed he can't bring himself to punctuate. This is the first sign of jungle madness, iirc.

right. what is the point for another 1 and out or 2 and out.
why bother signing like carroll to do a bandaid.
should just have fixed RT and resign TWill so dak do not get jeopardized.

just draft the players for the D and let them play through their lumps.
it is better than going 1-and-out - get better draft picks this way to get the daddy in 2018 if the draft does not repeat the success of 201g.

unless you will actually believe taht we got the NFL right where we want them.
because the front office has discovered the secret to drafting after 30 years:

round 1 - edge rusher who is getting 8 sacks in 2017 and will become the daddy in 2018
round 2 - shtudown corner available because the draft has the most upside CBs ever
round 3 - witten's replacement in the 3rd because we are good at drafting franchise TEs in the 3rd just like witten and this is a great year for TEs
round 4- free's replacement in the 4th because we drafted free in the 4th
round 6 - another brown because we drafted brown in the 6th
round 7 - swaim's replacement because we drafted swaim in the 7th
round 7 - bust - we are allowed 1 bust even though we have a magic formula
UDFA - church's replacement since we got church as a udfa

so we are going to fill all the holes - de, cb, te, ot, ss with a couple extra starters just like 2016 !!!

The team really believes it can continue to get better by developing players to become starters and relying on the draft. They handicap when they're not sure with inexpensive veterans, and rely on their coaches and the continuity to develop talent.

Until recently, people unhappy with the status quo were complaining that we overpaid for players in free agency. Now, that's flipped to frustration that we won't overpay in free agency. Meanwhile, the debate in the threads has shifted from 'we can't get over .500 with Garrett' to 'we can't compete for a Superbowl with Garrett.' That's real progress.

The last few weeks of VFA typically are pretty good for the Cowboys. And right now we're a good option for anybody who didn't the the long term deal he expected and who wants to take a high profile one-year bet on himself. We'll fill out the roster a bit yet. Then, as you say, we'll do the rest through the draft. It's been working so far. No reason to think that won't continue. This is what continuity of coaching and systems is supposed to get you. We've finally got it, and people want to change it because they want immediate gratification.

i dont do drama myself, nor am i disappointed, but dallas keeps looking at a hump, declaring its a hump and leaving the hump right there. thats fact. for years we have ignored the free safety position, and for years when it matters we continue to abandon the run game. These are humps we need to get over but Dallas refuses to do it.

Not with you on the running game (we ran the ball more than any other team in the league in 2016), but I do agree on the Safety position. But it's not just the Safeties. We spend two dollars on offense for every dollar we spend on defense. Until that imbalance is addressed, we're not going to be able to stop the best offenses. And we've pretty much proven we can't actually outscore them all. The 'hump' is the lack of sufficient defensive talent. We've got one real play maker on that side of the ball right now, and he's getting older and has a history of injuries.

Upgrading the DL/pass rush will make the entire defense better especially the secondary. Hard to win in the playoffs against the elite QBs without a pass rush. Being able to collapse the pocket can generate a relentless pass rush. Almost impossible to defend some of the throws Aaron Rodgers made against us in the playoffs, you have to get him on the ground. Atlanta was able to collapse the pocket with up the middle pressure which contained him in the playoffs.

We need DBs/DL equally. Our DBs are overrated imho and that includes Jones. Draft best player available at any defensive position including LB.

than why disagree with me when you agree with 1 point, its a hump, dallas has seen it as a hump and its been left alone? Seems the fact backed me up. And for the running game, Garrett got away from the run game when it was working against GB. dabbled with it, than this year when it was our bread and butter again against GB, what do we fail to do to take the lead? get away from the run game. but, you know, running the heck out of it during games that didnt matter really proves we stuck with it. again, when it counted, we got away from it.

Where are we? What's our big hurdle for 2017?

We're in a similar situation we were in after the 2014 season, having to validate a great regular season no one expected especially after Romo went down. We've been so up and down the past decade it's not easy to tell where we're at. Dak has to validate the season he had in 2016 to prove what he did wasn't a fluke. It's been very troubling how we keep following up great regular seasons with bad seasons. This past season will lead to high expectations in 2017 and the team always seems to disappoint when expectations are high. Hopefully 2017 will be different and we're able to build on what we did in 2016. Until we start putting great seasons together they'll be questions and uncertainty.

We have to start showing consistency from one year to the next if we're going to take the next step. Taking what appears to be a big step, then falling back the next year isn't going to get it done. The defense has to get better or every great regular season we have is going to get derailed in the playoffs.

I've consistently said the lack of attention to adding defensive personnel has been a problem in Dallas. To the extent you agree with that, we're on the same page.

The issue in GB last year was pretty obviously not play calling, and it wasn't the run/pass mix. Even early in the game we moved the ball easily. On our 2nd drive, we ran it 4 times and then it stalled on the Butler 'unsportsmanlike conduct' play. Our third drive we threw it twice, ran once, and went three and out. After that, it was 21-3, and we ended up outscoring them 28-13 the rest of the way. Our problem in that game was pretty obviously *not* the play calling (unless you really have an issue with a pass on 1st and 10 on that 3rd drive). Our problem was that our defense could not stop Aaron Rodgers. Because we lack talent on defense, generally.

yes i agree on the defense but Dallas gave up the run to early in the game. yes i do have a problem with the pass first against a Green Bay defense looking to get after the rookies when we should have let EE run over them. Defense i knew was going to let us down, but Linehan did his part too.

wonderful, 13-3 and we dont spend the resources to improve the offense because they are expensive.
that is when the cap flexibility was there and they are too busy counting beans.

if that is the attitude, just tank.
do get any D FAs.
just blow it up for real with bunch of rookies instead of signing paea, and the 3rd tier CB.
at least that way, we draft the daddy in 2018.
if you want to lay down for 2017, just lay down and admit it.
dont lay down 1/2 way.
