Other than having a great QB to get him the ball I don't understand why is considered a top tier WR. He has always reminded me of a Joe Jurevicius type but only slightly better.
Your thoughts?

That's scary if you evaluate WRs like that:omg:

Let's see......
About the same size as Dez..maybe slightly taller
About the same speed as Dez
Perfect route runner...much better than Dez
Great hands

Pretty much fits everything you'd ask for in WR.

I think Dez is the better redzone threat and open field runner though

I hear this a lot. I know a lot of people who I thought were fairly knowledgable about football who compare him to Wes Welker and Edelman which to me is absolutely ridiculous.

I think it's a matter of people (usually good people) falling prey to racial stereotypes.

I know it's not Political Correct but I am going to go out on a limb and say that Nelson is chronically underrated because is a white guy playing a position almost never played by white WRs any more. He plays flanker and/or split-end. He isn't a slot guy.

His stats speak for themselves... Nelson broke the ALL-TIME NFL record this year for long TD passes (40+ yards more) with 7. The record was previously held by (tied) Rice/Bob Hayes/Elroy Hirsh. I don't think you do that if you don't have some special attributes.

Count me as one of those. Up until recently I assumed he was of the Welker style of slot receivers. Was stunned to hear his size and that he was also a track star in high school.

I had the guy in fantasy and living in Chicago got a lot of Packer games if they didn't conflict with the Bears. The guy can just flat out play. Big, quick, great instincts for finding spots in the field and great chemistry with Rodgers. The guy seems to blow by DBs too. 40 time may not be tops..still really fast..but he has that Jerry Rice "football" speed. Nothing Joe J about him. Loved watching him this year

The guy was also a heck of a return man while at Kansas St.. He hasn't been used as a returner that much with the Packers.

He is one of the best deep route runners in the NFL.I dont know if the weather and Rodgers calf will affect their deep passing routes but they are the best in the business.

Good grief, do you watch any football besides the Cowboys??

The dude is the best deep ball WR out of any player in the league IMO, and yes that includes Desean Jackson.

You're about to find out what makes him so special. He scares me more than anybody on there team!

Yes he was. Saw every game. Really really wish we could have got him. He turned out to be a better pro than I imagined.

 That's taking it a little too far. He's not more scary than Rodgers.

He's always been a solid WR since he was at Kansas St. Didn't he have a pretty good Super Bowl when they beat Pitt?

Nelson is fast, has great hands, great route runner and smart. He's a great route runner that really seems to understand the game. He's so good at selling routes and setting up DB's. He's very Witten-like in that regard, he just knows how to get himself open, but unlike Witten he can take it to the house.

Speaking of his time at Kansas State, he somewhat famously blew by future 1st round CB Aquib Talib and completely left him in the dust:

Why do they need to draft a TE with a high pick. Escobar and Hanna, Escobar is a receiving TE that is why he was drafted, it had nothing to do with his blocking at San Diego State

I don't care what he did in college. I care about what he's doing now in the NFL, he doesn't run the best routes and most of his receptions happen in the red zone. He is having trouble taking snaps from a 32 year old TE. You can say because it's Witten, and that's probably partly true, but I have to believe if Escobar was exceeding, he'd be on the field more for passing plays.

So, sorry that I'm not as confident as you in a guy who only has 18 receptions in two years.

Dude is the truth. I grabbed him for my fantasy squad and knew he'd have a big year. Like everyone has been saying, he just gets open,
He's actually the guy I'm worried most about because he's the kind of guy that will toast our secondary and completely shift momentum. Hope we can control the clock and limit his opportunities.

"What's the big deal..." Lol

If you want to know what the big deal is with Jordy Nelson, ask every other coach who asked that question. The dude produces and does it in the clutch. Period. I sure hope the coaches are smart enough to play him accordingly.

Frankly, the Joe Jurevicius (sp?) comparison is insulting... Nelson has taken over games... yes, he and Rodgers are dialed in
but Jordy Nelson had big games with Matt Flynn at QB... even in this passing league, their aren't many 1500 yard WRs with 10+ TDs
out there... those are his piers..... (and, just to be clear, although Dez doesn't have 1500 yds, I put him the elite category based on TDs/games taken over.)

Jordy reminds me of a modern day Steve Largent. Not that fast and very deceptive. But he always finds ways to get open and puts up great numbers. I maybe a Cowboy homer but I respect a great players when I see one. Jordy is a great player. He is one of the top receivers in the NFL.

This is gonna be a great game. Both teams are almost equally matched. This is what Cowboy's playoffs are all about. Greatness happens during these situations.
