What's the biggest all time improvement in sack totals from one year to the next?

I'm just curious if the Cowboys can break that record this year. I've never seen one area improved so much personnel-wise in one offseason.

Our pass rush was terrible last season. But our top three pass rushers this year may all basically be new: Hardy, Gregory and Lawrence. One was the best free agent pass rusher, one was the best rookie pass rusher, and one is a much improved sophomore who missed most of last season.

Not to mention an improved Crawford, the return of our best LB, and what looks to be a much better secondary, which leads to many more sacks.

Our best pass rusher last season, Mincey, is a good bet to finish 5th in sacks on the team this year. That's nuts.

This team went from 23 to 44 from 1991 to 1992 (when we added a difficult but talented DE who was maybe a little crazy), not sure what the all time record is for improvement.

I'll take that again and the 3-Super Bowls that they won with that "maybe a little crazy" DE.

i dont get excited for sacks. Lets face it, how long as this team get 1 sack only for the opposing team to make a 3rd and long on us. Im hoping we can convert turn overs and make teams fear throwing on us.

That's crazy! I would definitely take that bump up in sacks for 2015.

Sacks are very important. Pressure is very important. They cause those turnovers but turnovers are the most important of the 3. 3rd down conversion is also very important
But if I could lead the league in turnovers or sacks, I would take turnovers

We were second in turnovers last season. I expect we'll be better this year with the additional pressure that opposing QB's will be under.

Marinelli managed to take this very, very mediocre unit and have them produce the 2nd most TO's in the league last year. We've been extremely good at forcing TO's since he's been here, even with the scrap heap we fielded for several years.

I agree TO's are more important, but I think they're a given at this point. It's going to be exciting to see how many more TO's we get when teams actually face pressure for once, and how our Points Per Drive improves as a defense with the added pressure.

If we can average 1 more sack per game, that can be huge.

Hope so
Rod really beats that into their heads
More pressure should lead to ints and the attention to turnovers should lead to fumbles

Very true
That's always been the case with rod's defenses
He really stresses to's

Minnesota went from 37 sacks to 71 sacks from 1988 to 1989.

you need to look this up:

regression to the mean

then you will understand why we will be very lucky to do that well in turnovers this year

Haha, regression to the mean would imply that TO's are simply a matter of luck.

Rod has always emphasized TO's. He took a team that was terrible in forcing TO's, almost dead last in 2012, to top 10 in 2013, and 2nd in 2014.

He did it with the Bears for a few years, and is doing it now in Dallas. That's his staple. That defense in Chicago when he was DC was always top 5 or very close to it, and #1 in 2012 in his last year there.

We may not finish top in the league in TO's, but we'll be very, very good at forcing them once again. Implying otherwise would imply coincidence, when in fact it's probably the #1 focus of Marinelli for his defenses, has been quite a while, and he's very successful at it.

The whole design of Marinelli's scheme is to create turnovers. He is happy to let you get yards in bits and pieces all the way down the field, as every play is another chance for a turnover. Just no big plays, and stiffen inside the red zone.

I know the OP briefly touched on Crawford...just to expound on him.. he only had 3 sacks last year..he will double that this year, maybe more
