What's wrong with Folk?

What is up with the people that are getting so angry when someone analyzes a problem.

We aren't freakin perfect.

His kickoffs were much better earlier in the year. I am absolutely positive that most of his kicks were inside the 7-8 yard line the first half of the season. Lately they are landing between the 10-15. I don't think it is intentional.

I think the point of the matter is as long as his is making his FG and EP attempts, who cares that his KOs are short.

Like somebody said, give me a kicker who is MONEY and I would not care if his kickoffs land at the 20 every time.:D

cause it seems no one wants to enjoy the victory but rather, dog on one problem or another.

it was bad enough when we were at each others throats during worthless carter/hutch debates. but now at 10-1, we find something else to dog on each other for.

it's frustrating to those of us who want to talk about the success we're having that simply put, we've never had before. instead its:

roy sucks
bayless is an idiot (really? NO!)
we get no respect (despite 9 out of 10 journalists giving us love, too many focus on the 1 moron who wants that very attention)

and well, you get the drift.

me? i've given up talking about it in here for the most part cause i want to "enjoy" the season, not pick apart every fault. that *every fault* that got us to 10-1.

happy thanksgiving, everyone. i'm gonna sit here for the rest of my evening and be happy to be a cowboys fan.

ya'll do whatever it is ya'll do to "over"analyze our imperfections.

...like a golf swing.

If you have a "tired leg" you start to see the same problems as if you have a tired swing.

I am not privy to the warm ups of Folk or the practice sessions, but for those who are able to attend the games and see pre-game warm ups look for this:

1. Does the kicker look like he is overkicking, almost "pushing" his leg through the ball. It's an odd look and typically not very smooth from the contact point and after.

2. The ball will tend to go flatter. When a kicker has a tired leg they will overkick just to maintain distance, but you see more line drives which are counterproductive to coverage teams.

3. Contact with the ball sounds muffled due to pushing through the ball. Not the typical cannon shot of a solid kick. If anyone has ever held for a NFL calibre kicker or watch pregame warmups you know the sound a kicker's foot makes when he hits the ball square.

If he is trying to maintain height, then you will see the kickoffs get progressively shorter and it will be very obvious. Height is harder to achieve than distance.

3. A kickers warm ups will be sluggish. Things like high steps and such that you typically see kickers do in their warm ups will be slower and harder to repeat.

If there is a "tired leg syndrome"and I have seen it, the coaching staff will begin to reduce the amount of practice kicks in practice and pregame sessions.

Folk's a young guy and I would considering watching him carefully around the (12) game mark when they typically well beyond the collegiate limit of competitive kicks.

It is the NFL and there is definitely a ramp up in the level of performance needed to succeed.

There's no doubt we haven't seen the touch backs of the earlier part of the year, but without being on the field next to Folk I personally couldn't evaluate whether our rookie kicker has a tired leg or not.

Of the two kickers the one I feel who is not performing to his usual self is McBriar. It looks on TV like Mat is contacting the ball well, but we just haven't seen the distance on the ball we were treated to last year.

super post man.

Exactly what I was looking for.

He did seem to be sluggish to me in warmups. The ball coming off of his leg was different than nugents and I just chalked it up to fatigue and being a rookie.

again, great post man.

By the way, I thought I heard Mick say last week that he was having a technical problem on his kickoffs and he thought he was going to be able to work through it. I assumed he got this from the coaches.

After the opening kick of the second half Brad Sham mentioned that Folk's kick offs were shorter. He didn't know if it was because of the weather or a tired leg. I think weather contributed, but he also had shorter kicks the week before against Washington. I do think his leg is a little tired or perhaps he has a minor leg strain that we just don't know about. He is still accurate and that is a good thing and the most important thing.

The strategy all year has been to hang his kicks high to give the coverage team more time to cover. That will lead to shorter kicks, but not as short as we have seen the last couple of games. Still his kickoffs are not the biggest issue on coverage. The guys just don't get to the ball as well as they should. They weren't covering that well when the kicks were longer, either.

His dead leg is not a big issue, but it does look real at this point. I don't think it will turn out to be a big problem because he will get some extra days of rest after the Packers' game and hopefully more rest through a first round bye as well.

Unreal.

that doesn't take away that the kickoffs have been the worst in the league. i wouldn't call those kickoffs "producing".

He's a rookie kicker that's not used to the NFL schedule, tired leg probably. I also heard Dallas wanted more air under the kickoffs...

In pregame warmups on Thanksgiving, Folk was missing everything. The kid isn't used to this weather and this length of the year. Arizona never scored this much, he is kicking his brains out.

Just hitting the wall.

has anyone taken into consideration that maybe his short kickoffs are done on purpose? to help the fledgling kick-coverage units? it seems most of his kickoffs are a little high

Speaking of... he said the Pats came out flat against the Eagles even though Asante had a pick 6 on the 1st play of the game.

Yes, idiots.

Ah life on a discussion board,

Always found it interesting when discussion of issues was questioned or restricted. Fine line I guess.

I doubted him a bit last week, so I should give the kid some credit this week.

His kickoffs were much better (though still not perfect), and he nailed that 51 yarder. Keep it up, kid.
