To call this a successful season?

Expectations change with improved results.

Most of us in the preseason would have taken more than 8 wins and just making the playoffs.

So what is it now - one playoff win, conference final, SB?

We all want a Super Bowl win, but at this point what is the level of success you would be ok with to call it a great season?

The interesting thing is that if they had ended up 11-5 but out of the playoffs, most would end up considering it a successful season because the expectations were low and it's definitely progress from past seasons; however, now they can be 11-5 or 12-4 and lose the first playoff game and people will complain that it was a failed season.

When the normally positive about his team Jerry Jones was not even cautiously optimistic, I was expecting a horrendous season. So I say this year is a success. Especially if you consider that finally, this team has an ID.

I think we're past the point of it being a failed season, but I think there is something to be said about getting to a conference championship game and establishing that this team is a threat to make the Super Bowl vs getting knocked out in the wild card or divisional rounds. I'd be disappointed with an exit before the conference championship (hell I'd be somewhat disappointed with anything but a Super Bowl win) but I wouldn't call it a "failure" of a season.

We have a good chance of finishing 8-0 on the road. We have 6 pro-bowlers on offense and what's thought of as the best offensive line in football. We have two legit MVP candidates, won our division and beat the #1 seed at their place. I'm just pointing out what everyone else that bleeds silver and blue will be thinking once the tournament starts. It's ok to dream big right?

It has already been a good season. Anything else is gravy.

Of course a certain group of "fans" will turn any playoff loss into a reason for a Garrett lynch mob.

I call that group the Insane Clown Posse. They're generally the same group that lamented Fred and Hitchens as reaches in the draft.

We all know their leader...the one that likes likes.

This season is successful for me because it matched my expectations. In the predict the record thread at the beginning of the year I predicted 11-5 and was called delusional, but look who has the last laugh now. I'm just gonna enjoy the playoffs now, and cheer us as far as we can go. If that ends with a super bowl I'm probably gonna contract alcohol poisoning lol

You just took the words right out of my keyboard.;)

I think they have already had a successful season, because they have proven that they can stand up and fight when the chips are down. Other than a few hiccup games that they should have done better in, they have really stood up like men this year and fought the good fight with the best (Seahawks) and the worst (ugly Eagles, and their rotten fans) of them. They did not lay down and whimper like little beyotches, like in years passed. The Cowboy'd Up.

In my opinion, that is all the success I need to see from them. It tells me that we are the real deal, and going forward we will only get better. Everything and anything good that happens from this point on this season, will just be icing on an already very sweet cake.

Go Cowboys.:starspin:

I already consider this a successful season. This has been one enjoyable season so far, and I hope there is more to come.

I concur.

I'm so happy with how this season has gone.

I want more, a lot more, but will refrain from putting any demands of at least one playoff victory, championship game appearance or a 6th Lombardy trophy on my team.

Well, my signature says Jason Garrett will get the Cowboys to the NFC Championship Game in three years, so I want to see the Cowboys at least get to the NFC Championship Game.

I will say that I already consider this to have been a successful season no matter what happens from here on out. The offense and defense showed major growth and we have finally developed something close to a team identity after having lost it around the time Parcells left. We weren't hugely successful under Parcells but you knew what it meant when the Cowboys came to town.

As for what I hope to see the rest of the season is mostly just good football and let the chips fall where they may. The strength of the NFC this year means our first playoff opponent is probably going to be a top 6 team in the league. I'd be much happier if we win this game and I do expect that we should win this game 75% of the time. After that if things go as I expect we'd have to play GB on the road and then Seattle on the road which is just a horrific path to the SB. I think we can win those games too but I'd have to say the odds would be stacked against us to win both.

I think the stars certainly haven't aligned and the script for the usual suspects has already been written. The one seed could potentially have a cakewalk warmup game in the divisional round and that will be the theme should Dallas get knocked out on the road.

I'd be disappointed in a home playoff loss, no matter the opponent. Next year doesn't always work out the way we'd hope and the sharp decline following the team's last playoff appearance is a testament to how fragile these things can turnout.
