It has already been a good season. Anything else is gravy.

Of course a certain group of "fans" will turn any playoff loss into a reason for a Garrett lynch mob.

Right with you, BZ! The gauge for a successful season shouldn't rest entirely on wins/losses. We were able to establish the O-line as a true strength (gimme one more stud O-lineman in the draft, and we're set for a decade!), we've found a number of players to start filling holes in the D, and we're on the right track. I've always thought we were still a year away, so this year is, as BZ says, GRAVY!

If we went one and done I'd be very disappointed, but I'd still have to consider it a success. Before the season I was expecting no more than six wins.

Similar feeling here. Am glad to see the great improvement in the team but the clock is ticking for Romo and Witten...

Man, I feel like I was in church reading this post. Almost wanna call you the Most Right Reverend TheHereAfter... In all seriousness though. I would agree with you 100% if this defense can shut down Washington tomorrow and win big in the first playoff game. I think this team reminds me of the Colts team that won the Super Bowl with Manning. It's a very good offense and a defense that is coming together at the end of the year. Anything can happen at this point....anything.

Amen.

Lol.... I bleed silver and blue. We raised the bar by passing several tough tests throughout the year. Sometimes you need to get in the playoffs and go through that crushing defeat before you're "ready." We do however have great leadership who've been in the playoffs before. Just saying I'll be crushed at any loss in the playoffs. Just the way it is. Dream big!

The way the team had played and competed I already consider this to be a successful season because we don't just have 11 wins but because of how we performed against Seattle in Seattle, defeated Philly in a huge game and there was no let down against Indi.
Having said this, I am greedy about cowboys and would prefer a SB. This is mostly because I know that there isn't a single team in the NFL we can't beat if we play the way we have been

Your concentration on what other fans think over what you think is always refreshing.

There is a group of fans that never miss an opportunity to call out what other fans think and feel as the foundation for their posting tenets.

I see two posts of yours in this thread and both involve a form of chastising others. It must truly be pitiful not being able to enjoy your Cowboy experience as you wait for the other shoe to drop.

Seriously?

I am not the one still dissing Garrett, saying we must win it all for this to be a good season...and all the other nonsense.

I am loving this season and pointing out the idiocy of those holding on to all the hate secretly wishing that this team fail so they can crow about it just makes it better. With each step forward this team makes the more stupid they look. At this point they make the Dumb and Dumber guys look like Einstein and Hawking.

To call this a successful season?

Expectations change with improved results.

Most of us in the preseason would have taken more than 8 wins and just making the playoffs.

So what is it now - one playoff win, conference final, SB?

We all want a Super Bowl win, but at this point what is the level of success you would be ok with to call it a great season?

A playoff win and a competitive divisional round game. Without a playoff win, it'll kind of feel like a pleasant surprise turned sour. That might not be fair considering expectations headed into the season, but it's the truth. I'd love to see a couple of playoff wins, but the road looks tough this year.

The 2014 season has already been successful based on how bad everyone thought the Cowboys would be this year. Even if they don't advance in the playoffs the fact they made the playoffs by winning their division has made this a successful season. Don't get me wrong I'm not satisfied but after watching the Cowboys spin their wheels the past 4 years I'm pleased at what the team has accomplished because it was so unexpected. The predictions prior to the season ranged from the Cowboys being the worst team in he league with nothing to look forward to but the #1 overall pick to winning only 5-8 games.

Unfortunately I've been forced to lower my standards for the team due to the past 4 years that saw no better than a 500 record. It got to the point where most of us were just looking for some progress as in a winning season and a wildcard birth. Now that the team has shown great improvement the expectations are going to be high entering the 2015 season. Now that we've been spoiled by a good season and a division championship anything less next season will be a disappointment. The more the team accomplishes this season the more we're going to expect next season. If the Cowboys were to win it all anything less than a championship next season will be disappointing.

I don't need to change my expectations because like the HC my expectations are on process and not on results.

I have the same expectations every year now after watching the 2010 Cowboys play. I expect them to study, work, and play with max effort. I never want to see a performance like that GB game ever again. I want to see it's opposite.

If they play half-assed and win that is as much a problem as had they lost. If they give it all they got and lose then I am fine with that. You are not going to win them all and you will win more in the end that way.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

Every season exists inside its own little bubble. Just because things have gone well this year does not guarantee anything for the 2015 season. Just ask SF, NO and PHI how much their 2013 season success meant to their 2014 season.

Like I said before, to me this season has been great already. We adapted and overcome so much to get to where we are right now. I do not believe this team will go 1 and done. I think we can beat any team in the playoffs right now.

There's no personal problem you're just trying to make it personal as usual. Last warning anymore crap from you and you'll be off my discussion list.

It's established that they're firmly going in the right direction now.
That alone gives us reason to call it successful.

But yeah, expectation change so...

A first round home win in the playoffs followed by a well-played second round game regardless of the outcome
That would be a successful season.

Anything beyond that would put me in giddy-land.

You completely latch on to the one thing in my post that was not meant to be taken seriously. Stop walking around looking for things to be offended by.... life will be much easier for you.

One and done is OK as long as we play hard. Get blown out and that's another story

Team has already gone to Seattle and won. Seattle is playing their best ball right now. A rematch in the NFC title game sounds about right. Buffalo showed GB is beatable. Det good on D avg on O.

And just what are they doing to YOU? Other than cause you to concentrate on them instead of your joy at this season.

I guarantee someone married my ex-wife. Now I'm not going to exaggerate her negative points. The fact that she could have been one of Mason's girls, sent in to night crawl and leave something witchy in blood on the walls shouldn't enter into this discussion. Because he has her now and I can go about enjoying life.

But until he came along, she still owned me. Even though we'd been apart for years and years. She was like a bad penny I worried about.

Like these guys own you.

Because you keep picking the scab.

There isn't anything you or anyone else can say that will offend me on a Cowboys fan board but your approach to posting leads to trouble which has forced me to remove several abrasive, insulting people from my discussion list and you're very close to being added to that list. We've had several exchanges in the past and you like stirring up trouble. Eventually the mods step in pulling the plug on posters who can't get along so I've had no choice but to eliminate those who only come around to hate, antagonize, insult or follow me around with some ridiculous agenda. Learn to focus on opinions not the person behind them. I've had my say and you've had yours you can disagree with me all you want but keep your comments civil or you'll be wasting your time responding to my posts. Once I'm done with someone here it's permanent.

This season is successful for me because it matched my expectations. In the predict the record thread at the beginning of the year I predicted 11-5 and was called delusional, but look who has the last laugh now. I'm just gonna enjoy the playoffs now, and cheer us as far as we can go. If that ends with a super bowl I'm probably gonna contract alcohol poisoning lol
No doubt J this is by far the best season in the Garrett era and this has been a fun ride this season and looking forward to the playoffs and how far this team can go a SB victory would be icing on the cake but win, or lose I will consider this season a huge success and really like the direction this team is headed for the future.
