When Dez is one on one and deep

So you are saying in double coverage he'll be basically shut down?

It actually is.

What elite passer do you know that consistently throws less than 4000 yards a season?

It’s all about yards per attempt. That’s what really matters. Dak’s yards per attempt are a bit down this year. They were really good last year.

It’s hard to throw for 4,000 yards a season when your offense only throws the ball 25 times a game.

Brady didn't throw over 4000 yards until his 5th year in the NFL. In his first 10 years he threw over 4000 yards only 3 times.

Its a different era now. Brady’s first 5 years were over 12 years ago. Its a passing league now

Heh, I've just taken a look at Romo's stats.

2013 - 3800 yards
2014 - 3700 yards

Let’s look up Matthew Staffords stats. See how many 4,000 yard seasons he has had. He is the opposite end of the spectrum. A guy who throws for over 4,000 consistently but isn’t considered elite by most people.

He threw 420 yards last week against the Steelers and Detroit only managed to score 15 points. Was useless in the redzone xD

You highlight a good point. Thank you.

400 yards passing but only 15 points. They sucked in the red zone because the best way to score in the red zone is by running the ball and the lions running game sucks.

Not staffords fault. But it shows that in the nfl throwing for over 4,000 yards in a season isn’t necessarily a good thing. It shows a lack of balance in the offense.

There’s a lot of factors that go into a QB’s passing yards.

It’s about efficiency, ball protection and timely playmaking. That’s what makes a good quarterback.

A) Not to be rude, but who cares? Passing yards is the most useless yardstick to measure a QB, unless we're talking about fantasy football. I would consider literally any other QB stat to be more relevant to real football.

B) What is an "elite passer"? Is Philip Rivers an "elite passer" because he throws for a lot of yards? Is Russell Wilson not elite because he didn't have a single season over 3500 yards until he had been in the league four years, INCLUDING the year he won a Super Bowl ring?

Dak isn't Drew Brees and he isn't Tom Brady, but at least let the guy have a few full seasons before deciding if he's an elite passer or not.

It the offensive system that keeps the numbers down. They are a run first offensive system. Dak is told to make the smart play.

* Methodically manage the game.
* Eat the clock.
* High percentage throws.

If Dez is open, take the shot, otherwise go for the higher percentage play. Do we really want the Defense on the field more then they are?

Passing yardage is not that important as long as the team is moving the ball.
Say we get 377 yards of offense a game(2016), does it matter if it is 227(3667) passing and 150 rushing or 250(4000) passing and 122 yards rushing?

Someone isn't elite over 23 yards a game? Even though they are fundamentally sound protecting the football and can run it as well.

We have a good mix of a ground attack and passing game. Last year, we led quite a bit/never got blown out early on. So, we never had to really lean on Dak's arm that much to eek out a win. 4th quarter with a lead? Give the ball to Zeke and prevent our defense from getting on the field.

Even then, Dak got 3,667 yards passing in 15.25 games. Wouldn't of hit 4k yards had he played all of week 17 more than likely, but there was yards left on the table. "Meat on the bone"-Cooper Rush (jk)

Really? When he is one on one deep I would consider him open.

Is that a joke? Open means you have separation. It means you have beaten your man. What you mean is that we should throw it to him when he is covered. Dez lacks top end speed and good route running skills. If you lack both, its hard to get open.

Your a joke that you can't understand that in a one on one jump ball deep that Dez has the upper hand on any corner in the game.

Its not about having the upper hand one on one. Its about the definition of the word "open" and what it means in NFL terms. Open refers to actually "being open".

And if your just another angry homer that cant have a conversation without insulting others, then get lost.

Excellent points. Not to mention that winning games and having a lead late, actually works to decrease a QB’s passing yards. 1. Because the team is running more. 2. When a team is down by a lot of points, they spend the whole 4th quarter throwing the ball.

How many times have we seen a QB get 70 yards in garbage time when the opposing defense is just playing prevent defense and letting them drive the field slowly to kill time?

Youre right. But at the same time, i dont want fans on here using Dez’s low yardage and reception totals against him then.
