When is it Ok to pull against your team?

Wow. Some of you guys truly are hardcore fans!!!

I had a DC cheerleaders calendar I pulled for back in the day, but never the team itself.

I have pulled against them for a better draft position but now is different.

I love steak but this is a bad piece of meat so it's OK for me not to like it. I don't like this team.

I know that's a signal for some of you to tell me to hit the road and that I am not a fan but I can return to being a fan when they have a more likable team.

They're quitters, they're going through the motions but they've quit inside and odds are they don't like this team anymore than I do. They lack direction, leadership and like that team that Wade was fired from, they run from a fight. They talk the talk.

I dunno, what do they need a Morale Officer? No coach or player can seem to get them fired up, they can have a team come into their stadium and embarrass them and turn around an go into the lair of one of our most storied rivalries and not even pay dues to that. They just don't care.

The first time I had this feeling that there was a new kind of football player was that last game to close Texas Stadium with 100 former Cowboys invited to the game to close the House That Landry Built and most of those players helped him build it. The players interviewed after that game were livid at the lack of heart displayed on that field that night. They just didn't care. About the history or even being a Cowboy.

I do not think this is exclusive to the Cowboys because I've seen this disinterest in the game unless they're in it. Saw it last night with Aaron Donald on the sideline just chatting away and laughing on the bench while the game was being played. Back in the day, if the other player considered to be the best D guy in the game was on the field, Donald's eyes would have been off Mack on every play.

I do think the Cowboys have too many of those players and too many one year mercs just passing through for them to get fired up about being a Cowboy. It's just a job.

And there it is, how many of these players are proud to be a Cowboy? Is is just a team they're on until they get to their next one? Does that old saying "it's ok, I was looking for a job when I found this one" apply here?

This is why Ryan Fitzpatrick is one of my favorite players and the man has been on more teams than any other QB but when he gives you his sword, it's yours until you send him on his way. In that sense, he's a throwback. His team is the one he is on.

Hell, some of these players didn't get fired up to play the Skins and won't this week to play the Eagles because they might be playing there next season.

Maybe it's me and I am expecting too much in today's NFL but I really do not like this team and have a hard time pulling for them, even against the Skins this last Sunday and I really don't know how I am going to feel when they go to PHL this Sunday. I hate the Eagles but they've got heart and my team doesn't. And I hate that. They're not losers because they lose but when they lose heart, they lose me.

All you proved is that you're a fair weather fan and the only thing worse than a fair weather fan is not being a fan. As you said you could again be a fan when they start winning. I've been a fan since the very first day the Cowboys came into the league and with only getting a single tie in the first season would be enough for some to find another team, but I've stuck with them every year and EVERY game I hoped they win.. You sound like the guy who says he really loves his wife more than anything in the world and when they get into financial problems tries to convince his wife to have sex with a really rich guy who will give them the money to get out of that financial problems.

Anyone can twist the above definition but, being "extremely enthusiastic and devoted towards" wanting your team to fail, so that it can eventually achieve non guaranteed success, seems more like the mindset of an anti-fan than that of a fan.

All life's intangibles, including rooting, happen on their own. All the rooting in existence has never changed anything whatsoever, unless it was done in the form of crowd noise, at a game, that either inspired fans' home team or disrupted their opponents concentration.

That's it.

You started this thread asking when is it OK to pull against your team or in other words when is it OK to not root for your team. Whatever the reason it still boils down to being a fair weather fan and the only thing lower than a fair weather fan is not being a fan at all. I never look for ANY reason to not root for the Cowboys or to not hope they win. I'm a Cowboys fan that includes the bad times as well as the good times. I don't pick and chose when it's OK to root for the Cowboys, I root for them ALWAYS!!!! This is a concept that fair weather fans don't get.

The last piece of evidence of this team being completely gutless, was on full display when Andy Dalton was nearly decapitated while his evidently heartless teammates just meekly stood by.

I was trying to imagine this being a hockey game. If a Dallas Stars hockey player had been popped like that, all hell would have broken loose on an opponent taking that kind of cheap shot on a teammate. In hockey, not having a teammates back is complete sacrilege. Apparently, with these Cowboys, it’s a business decision.

If there is no fight at all with these guys, then let’s start running this team like Jimmy did on that horrible ‘89 team. There were massive cuts each week and a revolving door of players as he sent the message that improvement started with heart and effort. We could use that message today with some of these fat cats on this sorry team.

I started rooting against them once dak went down. This team is terrible and dak was the only thing giving them a shot. Now I think it's best to lose out and maybe draft lawrence or fields.

Too many holes to fill to give dak 45 million, unless u somehow get rid of zeke and his contract

It doesn’t really matter if there’s any fight left in us if we are totally outmanned. This is historically a very bad team right now with the current starting roster. A 1-5 Wash team made it look bad.

A good attitude isn’t going to make a difference. This has become a ridiculous argument. I’d urge fans to read Aikmans comment on the matter.

The year was 1988. The Cowboys started the season 1-2. Danny White went down and the team was in trouble. I was never a White fan. He did not have that magic at the end of close games that Roger did.

They edged out Atlanta in the 4th game 26-20. Then went on a losing streak. They lost ten games in a row.

Right after the Atlanta game I began researching the college quarterbacks. I have never really been a college football fan, but this was dire times. There was this kid playing for UCLA that appeared to be a stud. You might have heard of him. Troy Aikman.

At the beginning of the slide I never thought Dallas would be in position to draft him. But as the season went on I started watching his stats. He seemed like a really good QB.

I worked for a company that owned bars and restaurants. One of my jobs was to oversee the purchases of food and beverages. I dealt with all the major beer companies. I got six tickets for the NOV 13th game against the Vikings. My best bud was a Viks fan. By this time I was counting losses and working it in my mind how Dallas could get Aikman. I had called the Randy Galloway show several times touting Aikman, which always made him laugh.

At the Viks game, Dallas got their arses handed to them. I was wearing a Cowboy sweatshirt but was vocally cheering for the Vikings. Now these were great seats on the 45 yard line. My friends understood why I was rooting for the Viks, but the people around us were getting ticked off. At half time I explained the issue to the strangers around us. By late in the fourth quarter I had people screaming for the Viks who were really Cowboy fans.

The last game of the season GB and Dallas were tied for the worst records. GB had the statistical lead. They brought Aikman to the game, assuring him they were going to draft him. The GB game was the early game that day. They played the seven win Cardinals. It was a home game for the Cards. It appeared there was no way the three win Packers could ever beat the Cards. GB won 26-17.

Dallas was playing the Eagles at Texas Stadium. The Eagles were 9-6 going into the game. They were clearly the better team. But an NFC East game at home could go either way. The Eagles won 23-7.

Aikman was there for the taking.

I got comp tickets for the Cotton Bowl. Arkansas was playing UCLA. My Viking friend was also an Arkansas fan. It was cold and overcast. UCLA ran the ball all day long. My friend was giving me grief about Aikman since he did not pass a great deal in that game.

Then came the fourth quarter and UCLA was driving. They ran play action where the TE's route was up the hash mark. Aikman threw a laser about 30 yards on a line. My friend got quiet for a second then said. "If Dallas gets this guy they will be a handful."

This is the one and only time I ever routed against the Cowboys. Give me a hard time as you will.

But be sure to thank me for rooting Aikman all the way to the Cowboys that season.

So the question is not will you root against the Cowboys this season, but will you root for the teams standing in their way for a top three pick?

Right now... I wish they would just forego ethics, and start the human cloning process.
