When to give TO a contract extension?

Not really. He's an older WR who's had injuries in the past four years of his career. I personally want them to go WR early next year no matter how much money they have tied up in he and TG.

Other than Hammy issues(pretty common) what else?

Roy BROKE his ankle...so...
The finger... so...

He runs like a man possessed when he has the ball.

I say we add about 3 more one year contracts to his existing contract.

Lock the man in.

He is a Dallas Cowboy.

Please noooo, get that moron out of here

Well the ideal scenario is that if one were to be offered, it's offered after this season ends and before any monies of his final year are paid out.
IMO, a contract extension will only be offered to him based on how well the team advances in the playoffs this season and how big a factor he played offensively. Not necessarily a Super Bowl victory, but how well he elevated the offense during crunch time.

If that doesn't happen, I see Jones holding the line and demanding that he fulfill his original contract and wait-and-see what happens after his final season is over. Owens isn't getting any younger and this is the same Jerry Jones, who as owner/general manager, parted ways with Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman. What would make Owens the exception to the rule? He's no Jerry Rice and even San Francisco knew when it was time to fold them.

This TC, he also had back spasms. And I wouldn't just write off hammy issues, either.

He's an older WR who by the time his deal is up, he'll be 35...and you want to offer him an extension to where he's contracted until he was 38. Sure, he could play until he's 40 like Jerry Rice, but will he be as effective? It was sad watching JR towards the end, begging training camp invitations.

TO signed a 3 year contract.

Ok, ok I will splain it to u lucy

it is structured so the boys can cut him after each season before the next year money goes to him....

I am sure someone else knows the exact details...

It's to the point now where we don't really have a choice IMHO.

I'd go CB with the Cle pick and WR with our pick if I'm the GM.

I hear ya... I do think he will be the exception to the rule.

A similarly structured contract doesnt tie us to him for its length if we need to dump.... but it does keep him here until he has nothing left to give.

OR this scenario

It is probably similar to the Yankees-Boston.... they sign players just to keep them from their rivals. Jerry could be in that situation one day.

if he gets an extension is should be a 1 year deal maybe 2 at the most.

There ARE NOT 3 separate contracts Little Ricky ........ it is one THREE year contract that sets out what the team can and cannot do and what the player can and cannot do over the course of a THREE year period.

A new contract DID NOT kick in when TO entered his second year with the team, the team just chose to keep him and the terms of the existing contract he signed when he first came to Dallas are still in place.

Wake up dude - you apparently are asleep most of the time.

You nitpick about everything. LOL

It was described as being structured like 3 one year deals. (I wasnt going to post the contract here and pick it apart for you). That how I was posting. No biggie.

Have Mocha latte or something.... Others seem to know what I was talking about...

I can't go top 3 pick at RB without him being a dominant guy who can carry the rock 25 or more times if necessary. I'm anxious to watch him this year.

Got it. Thanks. My hopes are that he'll fill out his frame a bit more before next April's draft. I think he can without losing his speed and agility. :crossed:

Way to early to even think about this subject. We've got Romo to re-sign depending on his play later in the season. Also do we retain Crayton, Barber, JJ? Should we draft McFadden with Cleveland pick; concerned about an evaluation I read that he shouldn't get more then 20 carries max a game but then I haven't seen him play but will this year. Prior to 08 season, but after 08 draft, there is plenty of time to discuss whether TO warrants an extension & for how long.

Okay - so you said TO had 3 one year contracts.

Once proven wrong you now say okay, he really didn't have three one year contracts, it's just that his 3 year contract was kinda like having 3 one year contracts.

In other words, you admit you are just making stuff up as you go and then trying to adjust and explain it away when proven wrong.

There are differences

First, a three year contract sets out everything for THREE YEARS (imagine that).

And second, the big difference may be that with a 3 year contract there is a bigger signing bonus, and there may also be other guarantees or buyouts if the team doesn't keep the player the full three years, so the player gets more guaranteed money than if he had three separate contracts that only kicked in after the previous one expired.
