When Will Mo Officially Be A Bust?

I heard on the radio yesterday Mo Claiborne has played in three of the eleven pre-season games since joining the Cowboys. He seems to be constantly hurt and is taking a roster spot of someone who potentially could be on the field.

When is this guy officially a bust in your mind? If not, then who is?

And, do you think he may be the biggest bust of any player selected or picked up in free agency for any team in Dallas, and not just the Cowboys?

I like you.

You make me laugh.

Dez did get injured at the end of the year but Dez is a monster and played like a monster from day 1. he returned punts for TD Mo has not played even average when he played. he got picked on many times then always hurt. when has he flashed greatness? you cant compare him to Dez no way. Dez could miss half a season and put up great numbers

I can compare players getting injured early in their career. You may not like it but that is fact. Claiborne has had good games vs Philly in the last game when he came back he played a solid game for the Cowboys. He knew coming into this season he had to gain strength and has done so. Yes minor injury has kept him out of pre season games but he is working and practicing. The object is to get players ready not to entertain the fans who do not have a clue. It is Pre season and if you can't tell the difference between the importance of reg season vs pre season then you really are lost

My tune never changes, dog. I have a "never give up attitude" on a player until he is no longer on the team, then I totally dismiss him and wish him luck.

When Carpenter when to the Rams? I never said a bad word about him.

When Newman went to the Browns? I never said a bad word about him.

When Ware went to the Broncos? I never said a bad thing about him. And the list could go on and on for me.

But, you fortune tellers can come here and tell the forum what each and every player is or is not and give up on them before their time is over. Go sing you tunes to someone else.

I sure miss the hand slapping, smiley, lmao emoticon...............

This made me think of the sci-fi short story turned in to a novel titled "Flowers for Algernon." It later became a film called Charlie.

To join the other side you might need an operation. Unfortunately they sometimes don't take.

Off topic...........one of my favorite reads........ever.

For the record: I never liked the Claiborne draft scenario but I do think he can be a solid -- not great, but solid -- CB if he can stay healthy. If he does that he is not a bust.

What the Cowboys select to do with him when his contract is up is another question.

Jerry will hang on to him as long as he can and probably overpay him even in his next contract just to try to prove his idiotic move up to get him wasn't wrong!

Officially? After this season for me. But he's well on his way there. No fault of his own but this guy was a top 5 pick and was our 1st and 2nd round pick. He has one measly pick in his 2 seasons and makes zero impact on the field. If Scandrick did not get suspended, he would be 3rd on the depth chart right now. I'm sure he will be when he gets back in week 5.

Even tho the question itself is full of snark I'll jump in.

1. Please stop telling me about how many pre-season games Mo has played in. No one averaged less pre-season games than Emmitt but that hardly made him a bust.
2. Mo has played 25 of 32 games since he was drafted. That's about 75% using my quick math.
3. The very best two football players on this team Tyron and Dez both had questionable beginnings. Tyron essentially had two rookie seasons since he switched positions. And Dez was still learning the offense in year 3.

Mo will be a bust when he is separated from the team and deemed to have delivered less than expected of a high r1 pick.
The Cowboys have already gotten more out of Claiborne than many previous r1 picks but no where near enough to warrant his selection.

I'm gonna wait and give him this season before I declare him a bust. I think he can be solid.

Well, he had no hope of ever being worth the trade up and the pick used on him.

That being said, I thought he'd at least be a solid CB running around impacting nothing. I didn't expect this level of bust.

I would have loved to see him in a Parcells camp. I think he may have quit by now.

But to answer your question, TD....is he a bust in terms of being an NFL player? Not yet. But the move to acquire him is one of the worst any team has ever made.

And these geniuses would do it again. That's the worst part.

I think it was made worse bc clearly they were chasing the Peterson hype. Nobody ever thought claireborne was as good as Peterson or honey badger. It's a move that had a domino affect that really broke our rebuild before it started

Dallas was not the only team that was impressed with Claiborne prior to the Draft, he was the top rated CB out of college. Just a case of bad luck instead of poor scouting.

Actually, he was considered the best DEFENSIVE PLAYER coming our of college, not just the best CB.

yup. and he was easily considered better than honey badger who played a nickel CB while Mo/PP played outside.
Mo was considered a better coverage player than PP.

One could easily argue Mo is facing what Tyron did... essentially 2 rookie seasons.
Tyron played RT then LT. Mo played press man defense then the next season was off the ball playing a mix of zone and man.

What was known coming out was that
Mo had wrist surgery and need to put on weight and strength. Hard to life heavy weight without use of your wrists....

I'd say Mo is this year's break out player. But I certainly could be wrong and following Dez/Tyron in a third year upsurge is hardly guaranteed.

This is where I'm at with him as well. He isn't giving up long TDS, consistent 1st downs anymore than Carr, etc. He surely isn't a force or playmaker @ this point that would warrant the trade and draft slot. But he could turn out to be an average starter in the league, which is a bust for us, but not for his career. He would have to be an adequate starter and come up with a high number of INTS to warrant his slot this upcoming season @ a minimum to consider keeping. Would prefer a Deion lock down corner turn around but trying to be realistic.

I still say that years four and five are the strongest, and the max out point for cornerbacks.

IMO he IS currently a bust. High draft pick... hasnt done squat. Not one dominant game. Nuthin. Right now, he is trying to get out of the "bust" status cuz if everyone is thinking it, that means your not doing well. At all. So really the question should be, are we all thinking Mo is a bust? Answer? Haaa! We all know that one! Im hoping he pulls thru.

you keep mention Tyron and Dez but the thing is they are both blue-chip players and dominate in rookie years. they can beat people with skill and instinct and now after learning the game they can do it day in and day out.

how many people wonder if Tyron or Dez is a bust? We can wonder if Dez will make the HOF
