When Will Mo Officially Be A Bust?

He has done nothing since he captured lightning in a bottle with Jimmy Johnson. If that is something that does not register with you, kudos to a long memory.

We are rapidly approaching an entire generation of Cowboys fans that are no different than a lot of teams.

It has to be tough to hang your hat on a couple of wildcard round wins.

I honestly feel sorry for a fan of this team that has not witnessed the greatness I have been fortunate to see over and over again and I appreciate it and value it.

However, I do not use those memories to assume it will just happen again.

I'm as frustrated as you and the next guy. I've been watching since a kid in the late 70's too (Cowboys/ Steelers era) . Negativity or doubt will never bring it closer, in fact it's unhealthy for you and the people around you. We need to have a talk about getting your attitude right.

I have been outspoken about Jason Garrett's clock management, Jerry the GM or poor play when I see it but If you love this team...you should love believing we have a chance, even if it's a slim one. There's a lot of good men working to improve this team...I see hard work on the field and in the front office and think it's going to payoff soon.

Montana and Rice... both guys that Brandt/Schramm had their collective eyes on. That is still hard to live with.

And even with those misses, it did not send the team into a tailspin of mediocrity. We go year to year and regret not drafting Max Unger.

Big difference.

Considering I take that as a compliment. It's easy to sit on a message board and pop off. Being tasked to write as much as they do now with all the social media and the limited practice availability, those guys earn their money.

If you think they are mediots because they don't agree with you - a fan - then so be it.

But there are a lot of wannabe's here that can't last the season even giving recaps of the games on this site. deadlines and demanding editors make that even a tougher proposition.

Back when I was young and fresh out of the service I hung out at this nightclub. It was fun. Lots of women and rock and roll. I talked my way into working there. It was great for about a year. Then it became just like everything else, a job.

I suspect the requirements to be in the media here is daunting. I suspect those who call them mediots are a lot like I was before i worked at that spot for a while.

One last point - did you or anyone else that has toasted me on this thread noticed the first sentence I posted in the OP? Doesn't look like it.

Yea I read your OP. You referring to the "heard on the radio" part?

And you are correct about the mediots job in that there is constant pressure to meet deadlines. Their bosses dont give them time to do "good stories." Its all about cranking it out and getting on to the next one. The 24 hr news cycle and the internets have changed it all. Its why so much of what they produce is garbage. My wife worked in the field and then taught it for the past 10 years. People she knows that still work in the field tell her about how much its changed. Its more of a rat race.

Sorry...which question of yours did I ignore?

I will post it again so you can ignore it.

So what are similar examples of top ten players that were labeled as "busts" that ended up doing well, and let's be clear, at his position. Please do not bore me with Jim Plunkett inspirational stories. CBs usually show they have it or they bust hard, quickly.

Yes, we get the obvious. Players take time.

How about cornerbacks?

He doesn't have the mentality nor the will to ever live up to HALF his hype.

I really should know better than to try to engage you seriously on a topic. You already replied to the post where I gave you specific CB examples, including top-10 CB examples. But here it is again:

"I'm not sure why it matters that they are drafted in the top-10 since the point is only that some players need time to develop at their positions. I'm also not sure that your argument that CBs 'usually show they have it or they bust hard' is very scientific. But, since you ask, I'd go with maybe Quentin Jammer (5) or Carlos Rogers (9) in the top-10.

Nnamdi Asomugha is maybe the best example of a first round guy who played fairly sparingly early and still developed into a really good player."

When Will Mo Officially Be A Bust?

Well, he had no hope of ever being worth the trade up and the pick used on him.

That being said, I thought he'd at least be a solid CB running around impacting nothing. I didn't expect this level of bust.

I would have loved to see him in a Parcells camp. I think he may have quit by now.

But to answer your question, TD....is he a bust in terms of being an NFL player? Not yet. But the move to acquire him is one of the worst any team has ever made.

And these geniuses would do it again. That's the worst part.
Are you serious? How about the three 1st's & the 2nd the Commanders gave up for RGknee. Wow. Worst trade in NFL history you have to be kidding me. Didn't ditka trade his entire draft for that pothead runningback? Sheesh ***. Bad trade maybe but I wouldn't even say worst trade in three years let alone ever

Not true anymore. Frederick is a better center than Unger. Only because the 2009 draft set the standard for futility was there any regret beyond the normal feelings fans have during the draft, although I do understand what you're saying.

This year for instance; everyone knows that I badly wanted Dallas to draft Aaron Donald, but Martin is a fantastic player and I have already moved on, as have most fans who wanted Donald, I'd wager. I liked JJ Watt the year we got Smith. Nobody is rueing that pick though. Smith could possibly be going into the hall of fame the same year as Watt. That is a long time in the future, but both are on that trajectory right now.

Last year I really wanted us to draft Sheldon Richardson because I thought he was terrific and I saw a need at DT with Dallas switching to a 43. While I still really like him as a player, Frederick has made me forget all about him. As good as Sheldon is and as badly as we could use a good DT, Frederick is a true difference maker at the C position. IMO, he is the cog that makes the line go. Martin is only going to help improve an already stout unit.

Anyway, while I do remember people regretting missing out on Unger, the Cowboys drafts since that time have been among the best in the league and I absolutely do not see people full of regret about players we missed out on even though there are plenty there for fans to do it with (JJ Watt, Richardson, Floyd, etc.).

Claiborne will "officially" be a bust when he's no longer a member of the team. As long as he remains with the team there's always a chance he could still develop into a solid player but it's unlikely because he can't stay healthy. His repeated day to day injuries have caused him to miss a lot of practice time and a number of games over his first 2 seasons which has stunted his development as a player.

He came to his first OTA practice as a rookie injured and every summer we keep seeing the same thing. It's been a troubling pattern with him that's frustrated the fans and the team. Stephen Jones called him out last season saying the injury thing has got to stop and it hasn't.

Not all teams have the same needs at the same time...teams to some extent, just have to take their own paths around the free agency/draft time.

He is well on his way to becoming the worst draft day decision in franchise history.

I'm with you on that because I can't think of a higher draft pick in franchise history that's been more of a disappointment than Claiborne plus the Cowboys traded up to get him.

They gave up a 2nd round pick in that draft for Mo. Here is what they had to pick that year.

Dontari Poe DT and Bobby Wagner LB would of been the best picks. IMO. However I don't know the lotto numbers tomorrow. So looking back in the past it's easy to say, X Y Z would of been the best at that time. With that said, we don't know if Mo is a bust yet. I will say this. I don't care what anyone thinks. Wonderlic scores matter.

I did not read all 9 pages, but I will say that you will know if he is a bust if the team does not exercise the 5th year option.

This is what teams do when they admit they made a huge mistake. For example, Tenn did not exercise the option on Jake Locker making him an UFA after this year. Teams don't let former 1st round picks hit free agency if they really want to keep them. That is why Tyron Smith and Dez Bryant are never going to see free agency
