When will the Conference Championship curse end?

I’ve given up hoping for a Super Bowl. At this point, I’ll take anything above a Divisional Round game.

I watch my fellow DFW Pro Sports Fans
  • Rangers won the World Series last year
  • Stars just made it to NHL Conference Finals Round
  • Mavs are currently in the NBA Finals
  • Cowboys haven’t been to a conference championship game or Super Bowl in almost 30 years. Since 1996.
Meanwhile, since 1996 in the NFL…..

NFC East Fans
  • Eagles - 7 Conf.Championships, 3 SBs
  • Giants - 3 Conf.Championships, 3 SBs
NFL Powerhouses in Mid-90’s
  • 49ers - 7 Conf Championships, 3 SBs
  • Packers - 8 Conf Championships, 3 SBs
  • Steelers - 7 Conf Championships, 3 SBs
Some of the Worst Franchises in the NFL in Mid-90’s
  • Saints - 3 Conf. Championships, 1 SB
  • Buccaneers - 3 Conf.Championships, 2 SBs
  • Falcons - 4 Conf.Championships, 2 SBs
  • Cardinals. 2 Conf.Championships, 1 SB
  • Seahawks - 3 Conf.Championships, 3 SBs
Washington fans are still in the same misery. They haven’t seen a Conf.Championship or SB since the 90’s either. But, their Owner/President just sold the team.

What year do you think our curse will finally end?

The only chance we have is if one of Jerry's descendants decides to sell the team.

New ownership is our only chance and there are enough Jones in line to inherit this team that we will never see it in our lifetimes.

All we can hope for is some good football to watch once in awhile and maybe get lucky and win a playoff game I mean how much luckier could we have gotten last year than watching the eagles totally implode and getting the home playoff game like we did.

We couldn't even take advantage of that opportunity.

From top to bottom all this franchises about is making money the players mimic their owner and do nothing but market themselves and make their super bowl scoring the big contract.

None of these players care about a super bowl all that motivates them is making the most money they can in the short window they have.

I just do not believe it will end with Dak Prescott as Quarterback. We have to ask ourselves are we even going to be able to have as good of teams as we had in the past with him and we still couldn't do it? We had Micah and Lamb on smaller contracts but that ends soon they're going to be highest paid players at their position in the NFL. So you're essentially trying to win with a big 3 which works a lot better in the NBA than it does the NFL. You could add Martin and Diggs in there if you want that's fine, but that's 5 guys making way more than half the cap.

I also think the pressure will be greater on Dak than it's ever been before because every year he fails that's just more pressure to get it done the next season. Can't just look at regular season stats and go "well he's good in the regular season, it's the same sport in regular season as playoffs why can't he win it all?" the difference is pressure and how teams play in the playoffs vs. regular season. One loss you go home in the playoffs, I've seen no evidence that Dak is a good do or die Quarterback. When he's playing the Giants in December he's great but that's not the same thing at all. I also don't even think he's that great against really good teams in the regular season anyway with the exception of when he faces the Eagles. We had second worst Strength of victory than any playoff team last year, the team that had the worst were the Dolphins and they beat us in the regular season so, we just feasted off a bad schedule last year. Next year will be much tougher and we lost players and didn't add much outside of the draft.

This team couldn't even bother to get a serviceable running back which is the easiest and cheapest position to do that.

To me we're trending down not up.

It’s frustrating for this generation of fans but my plate is still pretty full. I wouldn’t have much room in my Mancave for anymore championship memorabilia.

Yes, our other local sports teams are having more success but they suked for decades too. Cowboys still have more championships than all of them combined .

And I wouldn’t expect it to change until Jethro is gone or steps down.
I was also there and no this is not good enough. Your mancave is full of memorabilia? Well that's all you have, steadily fading memories of past greatness. Well I'm not old enough for accepting this as my Cowboys life.

This team is a crap show and needs a total overhaul. Get rid of what's there and start over. Because the same thing has been tried ever since the Salary cap and it hasn't worked. Trade those "superstars" and if Dak doesn't wanna go, don't extend and sit him. Get that 1-16 season and the high draft picks. Draft a QB as no 1 several years in a row until you find one. Give Trey a chance. if he sucks, see above. If he turns out to be great, we'll build upon him.

But get the trash out and clean the house. Yes we do have skilled players. But the GB game showed they're just workers. They give up on themselves and their "leader" once **** hits the fan. I'd rather see a loss in a fight to the death where the other team was just better than what we had to witness with our oh so great high profile roster. And yes, those regular season wins meant nothing in the end.

And how about the other 21 years?

It's not just about Dak and he is obviously on your mind. The drought has been o going for 29 years plus.

I am.sure there are excuses and spi s on why it was OK before but Dak has had the best Cowboys team around ever.

Once you realize it's not Dak only and it's Jerry then it will.fall in place for you

Can you explain this to me? Is that up until the mid 90s? I don't think the Packers have been to 8 conference championships in their existence. I could be wrong.

I mean Rodgers alone has been to 5. From a quick Google, Favre also has 5, and presumably they did quite a bit before that.

Sure but you think Jethro & Son are going to do that?

Cleveland, Houston, Miami in AFC.

Washington and Dallas in NFC.

Theres a really good shot that at some point Jerry sits either alone on that hill, or along with his buddy….the other “hands on owner/GM” or whatever of that era, or all time for the most part.

At least Washington rid themselves of Snyder. We continue to do the same with Jerry with no end in sight whatsoever.

If Daniels doesn’t bust I’d bet quite a bit that Jerry is alone on that list within three years given the status of the other teams…..and he still wouldn’t figure he is part of the problem, and talking about hanging around the rim.
I've called it already last year that Jerry and the Cowboys will not only hold the NFL record as the last team to not make a conference title game in the 21st Century, but will also hold the major professional sports big 4 (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) record as the only franchise to not appear in a conference finals/championship in the 21st century.

We're already very close as there are only around a dozen franchises of the big 4 who haven't been to at least one conference finals in the 21st Century. It will be Jerry's swan song.

The problem is Cleveland and Washington are not close and Miami probably not getting it with Tua as he is very bad in the cold which can be problematic for January football.

I'm going with this......I remember the teams in the 90s denying the 49ers 3 straight years and finally they put it together and got the monkey off their backs.
The 49ers were coming off back to back SBs in 88 and 89 (a mere 4 years before 1992). They were still the team of the 80s who hadn't fallen off in the early 90s. We don't have that going for Dallas right now as it has been nearly 30 years.

Nor did the 49ers lose three straight title games before winning one in the 90s.

Also, the 49ers cheated the salary cap in 1994 which is a historical fact. I seriously doubt the NFL would look the other way for the Cowboys to cheat the cap to build an all-star team on top of an already top 3 NFL roster the way Tagliabue did for the 49ers.

Yeah, I lost track with Rodgers. But before the mid 90s? There was no conference championship game in the first two super bowls. Thos Cowboys/Packers games were NFL league championship games.
