Where are you now on losing/retaining/promoting Dan Quinn?

Is Payton anymore proven than McCarthy? Even DQ has a winning record and a Super Bowl appearance as a HC. I’m just not sure what “proven” means or why it’s important. Payton has had some terrible defenses in his day as well.

Payton is proven as in a Super Bowl coach.
And who referenced Fatboy McCarthy? For the record he is way more talented than one-dimensional Quinn, whose D is struggling.
Blimey!
24th in defending the run?
34 points hung on the Cowboys by another struggling team?
A HC job for Quinn might be warranted, but only in Bizzaro World, lad.

I'm not even advocating for Quinn, nor am I even against Payton, I'm just confused by the logic for Payton. He's not a coach with a great history of fixing defenses. He had some solid ones toward the end of his tenure in NO, but also some of the worst in history too. I bring up McCarthy just because he has a very similar track record to Payton. If thats the logic to make a change, why even make a change?

He was one of the hottest names for the 2023 HCing cycle before the season started. Although we are ranked #5 defensively, we still have some serious issues. But I guess the question is/are his scheme vs lack of quality players in key positions. Has his star fizzled a bit over the last few weeks? Thoughts?

  • Do you still want him as MM replacement?
  • Are you OK with losing him for an HC job?

No fizzle. Need to keep him as DC. Just pay him 20M per if needed.

The Cowboys need consistency from season to season on defense. They need a core group of players trained in a specific scheme. A legit BFL defensive scheme...Not the Marinelli nonsense.

..will find out these coming games. We need a big one Saturday.
Post season will be most telling. Hankins and LVE should be back.
..but I'm starting to digress some.

we’re gonna ignore that we are down to 2nd and 3rd stringers at multiple positions because of injuries? Our defense was performing great before that. Your analysis is so simplistic that it’s scary

I will say I'm not sure he's as a given for a job as he was last year. One thing I don't think there will be as many openings and even so, teams generally favor offensive coaches. Openings by my take..........Colts, Broncos, Panthers, Chargers, Texans.

This defense's performance over the last month has probably cost him a good HC opportunity.

Fatboy has the same number of Superbowl rings

We don’t need a defensive minded HC here, that means Kellen is 100% in control of the offense. Dallas needs a new scheme and philosophy on offense, it can be so much better and stable with the right coaches. Quinn is fine where he is.

Don’t think anything has changed, he’ll be one of the top 3 available head coach options after the season and will take his choice after Payton goes to the Chargers. We’ll look at Gus Bradley if (most likely) available and then to one of the assistants if not!

We need to take Quinn off the pedestal. This defense is fundamentally flawed at stopping he run and he can’t figure it out. That’s a system related issue at this point and it’s an absolute back breaker in regards to the season, no matter what Dak and the offense do.

Dan Quinn is OK, but now we see why he was fired as head coach in Atlanta. Dan Quinn is definitely not head coach material. He's a D-Coordinator. Very good coordinator, but even now, his defenses are getting exposed badly.

Considering he works for jerry, I have to cut him some slack. Also he is the best DC dallas has had since the 90's.
it would be stupid to let him go.
as for HC, no telling what jerry will do there, he might make dak HC!

It doesn’t matter. This team will continue to falter at the hands of any and everyone. We’re a poverty franchise that can’t be fixed. Keep his or lose him, we’ll be in the same 1st round exit loop until the end of time.
You say that a lot. What do you mean by poverty franchise ? They make a crap ton of money but then put out a crappy product ?

I’ve never really understood the infatuation some people have with Payton… He had one of the greatest QB’s ever, and managed just the one championship.
Also, didn’t he have 3 straight 7-9 seasons with Brees as QB.

+1 ....but I wouldn't rule out us going to a 3-4 if he leaves. Remember that was MM base D for most of his tenure with the Packs.

DQ is gone after this season anyways. He's not staying for this clown show.
