You’re including performance for the rebuild of the 1-7 team he inherited. He won his division three of the last six years, and did it with two different QBs, winning a CotY award along the way. He’s a good coach.

If you're going to credit him for the 5-3 finish in 2010 the least you can do is give him some of the blame for the lousy 1-7 start. Funny how you are totally disregarding the fact that Garrett was the OC that season and absolutely had a hand in the bad start.

I read lots of garbage in the media. Sounds to me like, you're just trying to defend your boy Opey.

That's a false equivalence, & ridiculous. I said, he wasn't the "2nd winningest coach". Which he wasn't. The coaches win %'s back that up.

Jason couldn't hold Tom, Jimmy or Bill's jock. Two are deservedly in the HOF. Jimmy may at some point. Jason Garrett will never get a gold jacket, unless he suddenly starts buying suits from the same tailor as Michael Irvin. Even then, it won't be from Canton.
I understand you don’t like what that represents but it is what it is.

Total wins is usually how coaches are ranked in NFL. Longer tenures like Landry had certainly aide those records. While it doesn’t always represent the best coaches which I wasn’t saying Jason was the 2nd best in Cowboys history. Just the 2nd winningest.

Garrett is actually 4th if you rank by number of playoff wins.

I'm mean, isn't that the true measure of how good a head coach is, how many games in the playoffs he can win? surely you do not rank playoff wins and regular season wins equally, or do you:eek:
I think 4th is a reasonable ranking. Which behind Tom, Jimmy and Bill would make him the best Puppet. Which was always my stance.

The newspaper we aren’t allowed to link which I follow closely and often align my thoughts with rated him 5th behind Gailey. Both are reasonable assertions.

Disingeuous is what it is.

What I sincerely hope is, that Garrett gets another HC job elsewhere. Nothing will prove or disprove the notion of his coaching prowess more than an opportunity to coach away from here. If Opey takes another team to the Super Bowl, I'll eat my words & declare him a great coach. I won't hold my breath.

He should apply for the job in Cleveland. They have a base of talent. A great coach should be able to do something with them inside a couple years. If he went there, I'd declare him great by making an appearance in an AFC Championship game. Even with a loss... again, I won't hold my breath.

Finally... some common sense...! LOL I too think those are reasonable rankings. I put him on the same footing as Gailey myself.

Gailey who is only Jerry puppet thus far to go on to coach again as HC in NFL which I think we will see Garrett do as well at some point if he pursues.

Over time Gaileys history has been more favorable on his tenure than emotions were at the time.

Honestly I hope he doesn’t get a coaching job this year or in the future , he’s got money he’s good, crappy thing to say but.. maybe this will also open Jerry’s eyes that no one wants the clown .

I think a case could be made, Gailey got the shaft. He took over a team on the down slide, & was only given 2 seasons, with incredible expectations. He didn't have the talent, or time to return to glory that quickly imo. I would bet Jerry recognizes that today. It probably had something to do with him keeping Garrett too long.

Plus, the actual credit goes to:

1. The garbage teams they played
2. The defense generating 20 TOs in the last 8 games.
3. Garrett’s completely inept offense even led by Kitna and where they went more conservative running the ball still committed 11 TOs during that stretch against really bad teams. But that 11 TO margin was completely less than the 19 in the first 8 games of the season by the offense.
4. Even during that last stretch, the Cowboys lost against the pathetic Cardinals, when the defense didn’t generate a single turnover.
5. The defense in the closing game generated 4 TOs against the Eagles, yet we still only scored 13 points.

Jerry has admitted to letting Gailey go too soon.

Garretts extended tenure was mostly about Jerry’s personal agendas and ambitions.

Cleveland should hire him and let him do what he does for 3 years and then move on.

I really think his organizational skills and his coin flip brand of football would do well there and after a few years you move on.
