It's funny/ironic to be having a Romo conversation like this. It reminds me of the delusion most Cowboys had about Romo back in 2015 and 2016. Most of us back then thought Romo was of the verge of delivering a SB. 2014 was that promising season where everybody thought if Romo could get more help on defense that he could finally get it done. But it wasn't meant to be. His body had finally given out.
I feel the same about Dak in some ways. While he should have plenty of seasons left (29 is not old, right?!), something about his ankle/leg that still bothers me. I think he wears down somehow in his footwork and his ankle/leg affects him. He does have moments and games that looks like the old Dak but then there are times he looks off. I haven't made up my mind yet but this season should be the final say. I would not extend Dak until after the season and even then I would not invest another 5/10 years into a declining QB.

4th Quarter Comeback #2 of 21

Cowboys host Colts, Manning and their 9-1 record.

Dallas is down 7 going into 4th quarter.

Romo's last 3 drives?
68 yards, TD
80 yards, TD
63 yards...run out clock, keeping Manning off field

Wasn't a great Romo performance. Key thing: Romo had to play with finger splinted on passing hand! Romo hits Martellus Bennett for 25 yard game winning pass.

Good lawd. This stat only counts comebacks that end in wins.

The Denver game was not included in the tally, nor in this stat. The fact, however, that you blame Romo for a game where he led his team to...
48 points with a line of...25-36-506-5-1...not blaming the defense for giving up 51...shows how whacked your opinion is.
Denver had the same problem with their defense. Never hear anyone talk about that. Right before he threw that interception I said Romo's going to do something stupid and he did. He threw that interception within 2 minutes after I said it. I knew he was never going to beat Manning in a shootout. Great game though.

Romo magic to tie the game with 2:34 and then again to win it in OT

Tony averaged 16 yards a pass in 4Q and OT.

The defense that Romo faced:
2013 Denver defense, 19th in yards allowed

The defense that Manning faced:
2013 Cowboys defense, 32nd in yards allowed
Greed was not good guy just couldn't take the check down had to be greedy and get picked off.

Murray going back to the bench in disgust after the heartbreaker struck again.

That Denver game is a classic example in the difference in the way Romo is judged vs Dak.

If Dak threw that interception it would have been Escobar's fault for not "crossing the face of the receiver", it would have been the o-line's fault because the throw was made under pressure and of course it would have been the defenses fault for forcing the offense to put up 50 to win.

Cowboys team defensive ranking in Romo era:
2007, 13th
2008, 20th
2009, 2nd
2010, 31st
2011, 16th
2012, 24th
2013, 26th
2014, 15th
2015, 16th

Cowboys head coaches after Romo's first year as starter:
Wade Phillips
Jason Garrett

Proof Romo just couldn't deliver. If he was a real champ he would have been player-coach and doubled up, starring on defense.
Romos career was wasted by jones and garrett. Daks career is following a similar path.

He also didn't have a ground game for much of his career. As much as I loved Romo he wasn't great in the playoffs. Of course there are always a variety of factors.

Looks like we were going to have to put the Tony Romo sub forum back up

So many threads concerning this guy are popping up every day

I wish Dakota could get to 4-4 in the playoffs so Tony wouldn’t keep living in some of these guys heads

Firstly, I think Romo was a much better QB than he gets credit. I think that he was on some bad teams during the middle stages of his career, and, when we were on our 8-8 runs, he was the main reason we were relevant those years. It's a shame 2014 ended the way it did. I can't help but wonder what might have been.

That said, it's a shame he didn't have one more year under Parcells. I think they had something going, but Parcells ended up retiring afterwards. I think that Parcells getting one more year would've really set up Romo in an even better spot.

This place is insane. Any way to trash Dak is on full display. If you're even considering comparing honestly, all you can use are the first 7 seasons. Even then it's stupid because they're 2 different teams.
They are essentially the same caliber.
At least Dak has an opportunity to achieve more. Lets not propel Romo into the regular season HOF just yet. 7 more years to go.

Blackrain has always had a vitriolic hate for Romo. Tunnel vision on the mistakes while ignoring the 10x good stuff.
Maybe he has some understanding of football otherwise (not sure, really) but feel free to just ignore him on this topic as he is never rational.
First of all I don't hate Romo

I can certainly agree there were times when he was a lot of fun to watch.

But unfortunately when he decided to make a bonehead decision it was usually one of those times when it could not be overcome and it was remembered forever
.
My goodness this guy who we were banking our whole future on just got done with back surgery and ran in a preseason game and got hurt.

I mean there was just no end to the bonehead decisions an entertaining quarterback yes a great quarterback who came up big in big moments absolutely not

The smarter here know that Romo is high up the leader list in all-time 4th quarter NFL comebacks, ranking #21st.

But let's investigate that ranking with greater insight. Romo simply didn't play as many games as guys at the very top of the list. Coming from a small college, he didn't get a shot at starting for Dallas until his third year. And then with his back injuries, Tony's career was cut short.

How about we look at a more revealing number. On a per-game basis which QBs in NFL history were most likely to deliver a 4th quarter comeback?

In this thread I'll also explore how many fields Romo has enjoyed success: Football, Golf, Broadcasting, Commercials, Family, Predictor, Bailer-out-ofJerry, and Funny Guy. And yes, we'll even hear from an NBA player who competed with Tony and seriously thought Romo could have had a career in the NBA!

As we all know Romo never achieved success as a field goal holder. And some reports are that he's not always great at some community park pastimes. If you want to be small and focus on that...you go for it! ;)

Next up...the numbers: Captain Comeback.
Honestly cant remember a single one

Tony was certainly fun to watch but did the end justify the means.

From my perspective the guy loved to throw the ball more than he did winning the game.
He would opt out of the run in a heartbeat he could be baited to do so easily guys like Ray Lewis laughed about it.

Tony had some real good teams he had more than a few opportunities he was more of the Pillsbury doughboy than a well conditioned athlete.

He like the celebrity life. I question whether he would be willing on a consistent basis to sacrifice enough to win.

Tony also had to be the most unlucky guy on the field a direct polar opposite of Eli Manning.

As bad as I thought Eli was he could come up big when it was necessary and as good as I thought Tony could potentially be he never came up big when it mattered.

Consequently Eli will be in the Hall of Fame and Tony will be left at home like we were at the end of many seasons
