Where would Dak go in the draft today?

It depends on draft order and if those pre-draft trades are not undone.

At this point it's hard to imagine Dak falling out of the top ten regardless, though. Hell, we might take him at 4 at this point.

Point being, the league is so bereft of talent at the QB position, that some desperate team is going to take him super early no matter what. If ANYONE had any real belief he'd look THIS good running plays out of an NFL playbook against an NFL defense (even if it is only preseason), there's no way he falls out of the top ten, let alone to the 4th round.

Just look at past drafts to see how badly teams reach for QB's in the 1st that turned out to be poop.

Right now before the 4th, maybe the 1st.

However, Dak hasn't looked near the player in practice, if these reports are relevant this could get ugly, fast. Of course with our excellent Coaching staff probably ... CHAMPIOSHiiiiP!

Early in practice no, but the rest from then on he has been very good.

Well, preseason changed enough for Goff to go from a starter to 3rd string.

They don't think he is ready and they don't want to throw him to the wolves.

Has little bearing on whether they think he can be a franchise QB in the near future.

Not really, not even this week supposedly. What has always stood out is his confidence and poise.
Then, as we've all seen so far, he is a gamer. And that's a very big deal.

Not sure how people aren't getting the difference between short and long term.

If players look rough now--at 1-2% into a real career--but have the ingredients to be good long term, theres no need to panic.

Of course, everyone would like early validation. But even that can be harmful if less trained eyes crown someone based on....1-2% of their career.

ESPN radio.
I think they meant it more as a compliment.
Have heard it often throughout. Not bad...just not standing out.
But then "the lights go on" on game day.

Look, he is such a gamer that he's been able to cover up that they've now run the wrong play or went the wrong way in games either 7 or 8 times. Busted plays. But the good news is no real disasters and even a couple of nice gainers.

I think we're VERY fortunate to have him and am confident in him.
Just wish some would get some perspective. That's all.

If you base on preseason, then round 1. Let's see how this works out long term. I think Goff has the best chance to be the bust of the top 2. I did want Wentz, however if Prescott CAN be the guy, then all the better.

thx, he inspires hope with his calm and poise but I can't help but be wary of the shoe dropping when he faces the regular season with defenses burning the midnight oil to find ways to expose his weaknesses & stop him.

There have to be growing pains...

right?

First. Goff is not looking good. People keep saying the vanilla blah and he's had the same conditions. NFL player, obviously, are another level of skill and talent. Preseason or not and so far he's been exposed while Dak has been nearly perfect.

If they knew what we know now I think first. Some had him as the top QB going into the college season last year.

We got lucky and we deserve it. It's for the good of the country.
Your last sentence is so accurate. I have a buddy who despises the Cowboys, but says it's good and fun for the NFL when the Cowboys are good. Whether people like to admit it or not, the NFL is in our back pocket.

You mean if there is an fantastical and imagined scenario where quarterback prospects get to try out for particular teams in three preseason games with NFL talent prior to getting selected in the draft?

I don't think I've ever quoted myself before but I'm going to here.

The transaction between the Eagles and Vikes that just broke is further evidence of the above. This is how desperate teams are for good QB play.

Minn has such little faith in every other QB on their roster that they just gave up a 1st round pick and then some, for a guy in Bradford who really hasn't had much success in this league.

It's amazing.

In the other thread there are people grinding their teeth over how fortunate the Eagles are.

Think about how fortunate we are if our 4th round pick ends up being THEE future QB of the Dallas Cowboys.

Feel that Goff has a much higher ceiling. Don't lose sight of the fact that this is just the preseason.

Why do you think Goff has a higher ceiling?

arm strength?
mobility?
passion for the game?
natural leadership?
size?
college competition?
