Slowly but surely, Mike Zimmer's defense has made strides as his players get more comfortable in the scheme. It was evident last week with five sacks and two turnovers, but there's still work to be done to meet Zimmer's expectations.

"He keeps his players motivated and expects his players to come in wanting to learn more and wanting to do better," Overshown said. I think when you've got that as a coach and as a leader you never can get too far down, you never can feel like you can't get back up from what y'all just faced."

Although there have been a lot of down points for the Cowboys defense this year, Overshown prides himself on giving his all every snap for veteran players like Eric Kendricks, who are nearing the tail-end of their careers, hoping that his effort can carry long-term effects for the defense's production and his teammates' appreciation.

The past three weeks the element for leadership and motivation was missing from the coaching staff. Well, that element showed up again on the defensive side.

Zimmer is the man. Linebackers are the fiber that connects a defense, from crashing in on the linebacker to the secondary behind. This group of 'backers' are battle proven now. That and they are good.

Micah Parsons, DeMarvion Overton, and Eric Kendricks are a strong and talented trio. Damone Clark, and Marist Liufau provide a good depth.

I'm watching this group provide speed and intensity.

The other two groups will be growing strongly.
I’d just like the next HC to be able to pick his own damn DC (& OC). If that’s Zimmer, I have zero problems with that.
This team hasn’t been able to win in the trenches on the D-Side of the ball in forever because our genius owner/GM doesn’t see the “value” in spending money or draft picks there because those positions don’t sell jerseys.
Two D-linemen picked in the 1st round in the last 20 years (I’ll go to my grave remembering yelling “nooooooooooo!!!!!” at the tv screen when they picked Taco) and they were both such reach’s that it’s zero surprise that they’ve been failures.
Until Jerry decides to shore up the most critical part of the defense so it can stop the run and bring pressure on the QB up the middle, no DC is going to have overall success , let alone in the playoffs……and continue to forget about the SB.

This is when active personal things get forging and not squeeling like stuck hogs. I like the Defensive Coordinator even if you have lost control of self control.

This has now become a good group of linebackers for real. When healthy, the team will have 3 strong corners shortly as well as the best pair of defensive ends available.

Forged In fire, not sucking on a fire...

My football started out in 1957, in Bishop, Texas. Ronnie Bull rushed for 2,451 yards in 12 games and led the Nation in scoring at 225 points. He went onto to Baylor for All American for 1960 and 1961.

I started up for the 8th grade football team in Bishop, and we were unscored upon that whole season, in 1964. I was a defensive end and called plays for the offense as a tight end. My family moved onto Kingsville and I played 3 years in High School and was All District at linebacker. Played from 1966-1968. This is where I started as a player.

Ronnie was Rookie of the year and was halfback in 1963, until Gayle Sayers was drafted in 1965. Pat Summerall said he looked the part of his bull name. Ronnie then became the Bear's fullback. He helped the Bears win the team title.

Sid Blanks was the first black player to play for the Lone Star Conference for Gil Steinke at A & I University at Kingsville. In 1964 he became the first draft pick for the then Houston Oilers.

Quarterback Randy Johnson was drafted from A&I in 1966, with 1967 Eugene Upshaw, Randy led the Giants to a Championship game and Eugene went to the Hall of Fame in Oakland and was President of the Union Accociation.

Myself, I played a year at the Air Force Academy 1969, and then a year in 1970 at A&I. I hurt my leg that next season and was not able to then play. I was a linebacker/defensive end. I played with the following players.

From A&I, Dwight Harrison, Eldridge Small, and Levi Johnson were secondary drafted players from 1971 to 1973. Also tight end David Hill. All were Pro Bowl during their carreers. They were joined by 1st round drafted DE Ernest Price and 1975 Houston drafted running back Don Hardemon.

QB Karl Douglas was drafted in the 3rd round by the Baltimore Colts in 1971. The year that Johnny Unitas and Earl Morrill left.

The Bishop and Kingsville area were the center of a lot of football development for the NFL under Gil Steinke and then, Texas A&I.

It was a hot bed then...wake up now. Not all were prima donas...on site.

your posts are worthless
You are a fool, loose lips and shallow. You act like a tiny criminal and have a lose mouth. I care less as to no value from YOU. Star gaze and all desire...no action.

Football is a sport...there's nothing sporting to your nature. You fail. Nothing more.

That is success and from a small school in the development of the NFL/CIO when a large number of black players were placed from A & I. I participated with them.

Sorry you yard birds can't really support anything but your own butts...so? Learn football. You earn the bladder award for the biggest butt. Don't be caught anywhere without it or you get it another week.

Its easy to pile on Zimmer but he had zero dlinemen for most the season and I didn't expect the defense to be good out of the gate. They needed time, unfortunately injuries derailed that. Still, they've somewhat held their own.

The biggest problem is neither unit is capable of lifting the other one up.

The results aren’t surprising, considering he’s geriatric and was out of the league.

Where’s this going? The Dallas defense is at the bottom of almost every team stat there is. In the last 4 games they’ve allowed 138 points.

:muttley:It already has. There can still be a level of professionalism established, unknown to those who really didn't piece together and are fully challenged.
Forged in fire was reality in military service, and not by an all mouth type leaning to cheating openly, The defense can still be a strong challenge.

That doesn't remove base talents nor their return to the field. The defense can shortly change games. Scoring is another story. You would rather poke fun. That is on you...injury is on them.

What's your comment about the linebackers? That was the direction I directed towards. A window area of success...starting with 5 sacks and 2 turn-overs against the Eagles. That required talent, without doubt. Independent of offense and no scoring momentems.

Focus was linebacker.

It’s already in the burn barrel.
Sorry smart guy, I don't have to buy your role of insult nor not seeing a team standing it's own and fighting through. Oh, there still is talent...even if the hecklers don't hang...and have ever really fought through. Did G.I.'s make it through the side show of VietNam? Yea we did and we had to remake the NCO's in nose to nose confrontation.
