Whoa now hold here ….I didn’t think Landry had to wear a Fedora shined Florsheims and sport coat and tie to Pack boxes yikes . I’m talking Landry best dressed NFL Coach on the Sidelines hands down . A close second was Weeb Eubank ….:starspin:
Landry, by his own admission, dressed to impress.
He was trying to get insurance company exec's attention by dressing like a businessman so he could get a real world job.
Of course, he realized that wasn't going to happen for whatever reason, so he developed his coaching style and kept up the sharp dressed man image; likely a part of his culture anyway.
He gave his players support for their problems - Hollywood Henderson being a prime example. He disliked his showboating for the national cameras during a game - the infamous towel incident. He genuinely cared about his welfare and knew about his cocaine problem. He visited him and encouraged him, even after cutting him.

When I said Vermeil had the one SB was meant for when he was in the NFCE . Obviously he went back with Warner and St Louis . A really fine coach as well as George Allen .

Your right . Tom was probably more of a players coach then we know . His teams rarely were flat . I bet Danny White Tony Dorsett captain Roger all loved playing for him .

I remember the 1970 season. Lost 38 to 0 to the Cardinals in the Cotton Bowl and got destroyed by the Vikings by about 40 points.

Great coaches for they're individual eras. But I would take Jimmy because players were scared of being cut if they weren't prepared to play. Football is an emotional game and Jimmy was an emotional coach who didn't put up with mental mistakes and fatigue.

Wow out of a three decade run they were overmatched several times . Stop the presses get Randy Galloway on speed dial .

I seem to remember Jimmy having a 1-15 Aikman team where poor Troy was a punching bag and the next season was sub .500 . Get real man .

I am real. I remember 1970 very well. I remember when they claimed that Landry couldn't win the big one. I remember when he alternated qbs on every play against the Bears in 1971. People were negative just like they are today. I remember when he did win the big one. He was a great Coach.

Like Madden, Landry underachieved. The Cowboys should have won 5 Super Bowls under Landry (II, V, VI, X, and XII).

Landry and I like Jimmy. Landry was an innovator and a disciplinarian without being a jackass. Look at Dallas' record over a long period under Landry. Dallas had a winning record for 20 straight years under Tom.

Jimmy was good at picking people at Dallas and was a good motivator for a young team but was rather mediocre in Miami. Landry consistently won even when he didn't have overwhelming talent.

nobody every threatened Jimmy with death, that I know of. Cowboys @ Rams, Week 14 1986. Tom Landry is escorted off the sideline after the 3rd quarter and equipped with a bulletproof vest.
The worst that happened to Jimmy was the team messed up his hair. :/

Jimmy Johnson.
NFL Players aren't smart enough to run Tom Landrys schemes. Then or now.

Jerry mentioned he fired Chan Gailey too early wished he never hired Campo in all probability but I can’t pick between Coach Landry or Jimmy .

And Barry did have a couple stellar yrs . Won himself a SB before getting back on the couch .
Yeah, won himself a Super Bowl with Jimmy’s team

That's why you have go with Jimmy. His teams were the very best. Landry's teams played second fiddle to the Packers in the 60s and the Steelers in the 70s.
