A young, unknown hotshot along the lines of Tomlin or Rex Ryan. No warmed over, recycled, desperate-for-a-job candidates like Holmgren, Gruden, or Shanahan. In short, no "stars."
^^This^^ (and Garrett might fall under that category)
If Jerry is worth a damn as a GM, he should know of several coaches that are younger, talented and ambitious that we can build an organization around. I'm tired of hiring coaches that are in Jerrys age group that he can either control or apparently feel more comfortable around. I also don't believe switching coaches every 3 to 4 years is good for the organization and causes too many up and down seasons.
With the advent of the salary cap, free agency and parity, a good organization should remain competitive every year, that should be the Dallas Cowboys!
I know a lot of people are down on Garrett, but given the constraints that come with Jerry as GM, I'm not 100% convinced he shouldn't get the nod. We would keep some continuity in the staff, his dad was a coach, his brother(s?) coach and I think he is smart enough to improve over time. He also has a lot of resources to pull from for advice and I'm not convinced Wade being in charge doesn't cramp the style he'd like to lead with. He certainly has many attributes I would think a GM would look for in a head coach, I guess our concern around here is whether he was more influenced by Mike Martz or Jimmy Johnson. If it was the latter, he may find success.
I don't think this is racist to say, but I think we should consider hiring an up and coming African American coach. There has to be a lot of untapped talent out there because not many have been given an opportunity to be head coach. Looks like Jerry should have gone with his gut and hired Sngletery when he had the chance. I'd love to have that type of motivational leader as our coach, but I'm not sure Jerry will let anyone with too strong of a personality be HC again.
