Which headcoach do you want to replace Wade?

Why so high on Jason Garrett. Not arguing, just wondering

IMO, he has shown some really unique, ground-breaking stuff in the running game. Those delayed and misdirection handoffs are a thing of beauty and I haven't seen that from anyone before Jason Garrett came on the scene.

I'm not really on board with Garrett yet. Will have to wait til the end of the season. I think I'd rather have him though--or someone like him, young, up and coming--than the same old retread coaches.

The mancrushes on Bill Cowher are so perplexing to me. 2 Super Bowl appearances in 15 years as a coach.

Compare that to every other coach in the league. That actually fairs pretty damn high on the charts. I mean what coach in the league right now has as many or more Superbowl appearances?

Thats it. One current head coaches have at least two Superbowl appearances as a Head Coach.

Of the Super Bowl winning HC's out there right now, Brian Billick is the one I would want. He won with an unstoppable offense in Minnisota, but was unable to find a QB in Baltimore. Nevertheless he won a SB in Baltimore. Plus he is a Bill Parcells type ***** and disciplinarian.

But lets be honest, Jerry is not going to hire one of these coaches. Jerry will go out and find a coach who will just be happy being an NFL coach, that he is willing to be Jerry's puppet. One who let Jerry select the coaching staff, and ask for no power at all.

I really don't think Jerry cares if he wins a Super Bowl anymore. I think he just wants a good team that will fill the stands and bring plenty of publicity.

1. Bill Cowher

3. Mike Holmgren
4. Jason Garrett

6. Rob Ryan
7. Mike Shanahan
8. I want Wade to stay

I don't think Wade is going anywhere for a while unless we completely implode and I don't see that happening this year.

But if he were to leave I only think there are 3 options:

1. Jason Garrett - Already on staff, already being paid like a HC, was a candidate prior to hiring Wade, Knows the team and assistant coaches and isn't likely to replace a lot of the staff.

2. Mike Shanahan - Has a proven track record of success, gets along with Jerry, and would probably get along with Garrett. He also wouldn't push for complete control.

3. Mike Holmgren - I actually think he would be the first option except that he wants complete control of the team and that's something Jerry isn't likely to give up. He & Jerry have a long history together and would work well together if they could set their egos aside but I don't see that happening. If Stephen takes over control of the team at some point then Holmgren could be the top option. Very QB friendly coach.

Here's why I don't see any of the others:

Cowher is looking to coach in NC whether for the Panthers or one of the college teams.

Dungy is done with coaching for a while and isn't looking to come back anytime soon.

Gruden is NOT going to coach under Jerry Jones. I don't think either guy likes the other and I just don't see it as a good fit.

Rob Ryan is an assistant and if we were going with a guy that is currently an assistant then it would be Garrett.

As I had already stated, I would choose Garrett and here's a few reasons why.

Family
Garrett is homegrown talent which is kind of a soft spot for Jerry. Despite what some have said, I think both Stephen and Jason had hands in Owens' release. Jerry might be more inclined to discuss and listen to Garrett rather than act as puppeteer. I am really looking forward to when Stephen takes over GM duties, because I get the feeling that Garrett and he would make a very good team.

Continuity
Chances are, any coach we bring in would want to choose both offensive and defensive coordinators, which could then lead to wholesale changes in philosophies, resulting in changes to the roster. Promoting Garrett would ensure that at least the offense stays relatively unchanged but possibly several of the other coaching positions as well.

Demeanor
One of my biggest irks regarding Wade is his sideline demeanor. He looks dumbfounded when things aren't going well and happy like he found a jelly filled donut in his pocket when things look good. A head coach needs to be able to control their emotions because every game will be a roller coaster. Garrett on the other hand looks the same whether he called a play that went 80 yards for a TD or resulted in a 4th and goal at the 1.

These are just three of many reasons I can come up with, but I think they are some of the most important.

I said Cowher. His players loved playing for him, he brought out the best of the players. Seemd he made marginal players into better players.
I always liked his fire and intensity. Even though I hate the Steelers, but he could make me appreciate their play.

exactly.

If I had to pick one of those it would be Gruden, but he would be on the bottom of my list, just the top of the list you provided.

A vote for Wade is a vote for mediocrity. The guy's been a coach a long time, and has yet to get it done. If not for Jones' grand plan to make Garrett his coach, Wade would've already been fired. He never would've been hired in the first place were it not for Jerry thinking Wade would be the most pliable when it came to his Garrett plan.

Anything success the team has will be in spite of Wade, not because of him.

I disagree. If the team succeeds the Wade shoule get the credit for a job well done. No coach is out there winning in the playoffs or SB every year. Dungy has had his failures as has many on the list provided.

I think it is pretty chicken **** to cast blame and then turn around and say but any success you get no credit for.

I'm a bit surprised to see no college coaches names being thrown around.

Wade may be the most spineless coach in the league and he wouldn't even sniff another HC job were it not for our idiotic GM.

Wade bent over and let Ralph Wilson sabatage the best chance he's ever had at a playoff win. You think any owner would've been able to pull that on Jimmy Johnson? Bill Parcells? Bill Cowher?

Yet that's the head coach we have. It's a bad joke.

Umm..... I'd take that in a heartbeat. We haven't won a playoff game in over 12 years.

2 Super Bowl appearances in 15 years sounds like music to my ears!!!!

_____

I voted Garrett.

That's simply not true.

First Wade's winning percentage as a head coach is equitable to those guys you list. They all had long stretches as a head coach and won Super Bowls a very low percentages of their head coaching years. Cowher was literally given forever to win in Pittsburgh.

Wade was hired because they wanted a defensive coach who could continue with the 3-4 defense. Garrett was definitely a component of the plan but he wasn't the biggest piece. Jerry could have hired an offensive coach if he so desired, even Garrett himself.

The coach I am surprised wasn't on the list and the one I'd like next is ... wait for it... Jimmy Johnson.

I think he has been out long enough to feel refreshed and wants one more professional challenge in the game. He'd be fine with Garrett as his offensive guy and he knows how to motivate.

While Jimmy has rebuffed all talks of returning his comments this year sound very Cowboy and especially Romo-friendly.

Personally, I hoping that the Cowboys do well enough this season and post season that this becomes a non-issue.

I'll revisit this topic if it becomes necessary, which I hope it does not.

Can I buy a vowel?

Seriously, I want none of these coaches. Time for fresh and new.

I don't think the man is spinless nor a puppet, Buffalo wanted Wade to stay but because he refused to fire his speical teams coach it ended up costing him his job in Buffalo a team who has not seen the playoff since Wade Phillips. Wade does understand the job better than some message board want to be and if this team has success yes Wade deserves his fair share of the credit he sure as hell takes the blame for every single thing.
