Too small . He would be under the blue tent with tweety bird chirping in his ears
He played that role for 2 years and that is how he earned his extension.
Few teams are running out 3 true linebackers and Dono is better equipped at that Will or WLB role than other safeties we have tried there.

That 3rd LB spot is hybrid role. It has box fill and coverage duties.

You just need a middle and strong LB that can beat blockers and stop the run.

They only play 2 LBers the vast majority of the time. Basically a 4-2-5 defense. James has been interesting and Liufau deserves an opportunity to shine the rest of the season. Murray is an overpaid JAG and Sanborn is not good. Clark is a glorified special teams player. Draft a MLB in the first round in April.

Well this defense is strange because it's hard to tell which week are they gonna be defending the pass or the run because they can't do both they haven't done both in the same game other teams didn't challenge the run early in the year but they definitely challenged it surprisingly enough last sunday with the jets and just literally ate our lunch.

However what would you want I think the Ben don't break requires letting them be more like Dan Quinn's defense more aggressive up front challenge the pass so no easy fast scores and let them run but try to force them into a long drive that can lead to penalties and possible turnovers or a punt if anything only give up three.

Until they learn the balance and try to defend both I think that was their plan last week is to not ignore the run but try to focus more on fixing that quick strike fast scoring philosophies that teams were coming in doing against us..

But back to the linebackers I think that's the problem when they started doing all those twists and stunts and blitzes once again like Dan Quinn's defense it left holes that they ran the ball more through them and I'm not sure if they didn't expect the run so they were thinking pass and got gashed but I believe these linebackers were all out of alignment.

Not sure who to believe but they say Sanborn would be the better guy on the field at middle linebacker when it's obviously downhill running that you need to stop but he's terrible defending the run in space and in coverage they're in a catch 22 I mean who do you put on the field if you can't no 100% what they're about to run just because it's first down anymore that does not indicate a run in this day and age of football...

But I picked Liafu and James both young both are going to be big time learning curves and growth so we're going to have to deal with the mistakes but I'd rather have aggressive young players that are going full speed and they'll learn on the fly.

Obviously you got to substitute in Sanborn and or Murray at times depending on what you think they're gonna run but mostly in obvious rundowns you know not have them out there on second or third and long..

Touch a Mess does I don't even know how to describe it but each week they keep changing but I prefer I think what they what they did with the Jets that's a lot closer to what Dan Quinn does and sometimes it leaves you open because those linebackers may have looked bad last week but it may have been the worst our interior D line played against the run I think they were out of place sometimes I thought I swore I saw 3 down lineman and there were gaps all over like they widened the stances out almost like a wide 9 and left hold all over but they got to the quarterback...

hmmm....

but yeah we need overshown like five weeks ago.lol Should help stabilize this but I don't know if it fixes it but again I'm picking the two young players and let them learn and again this is also shocking I want to go with lastly we're supposed to have a linebacker centric like a linebacker whisperer as a defensive coordinator and why is this one of the worst spots on the entire defense??

:facepalm: :oops::huh:

marist liufau.
love that fightn' irishman.
Yeah but you're gonna have to live with his mistakes I like him too he's one of my choices but the problem is he's aggressive and he overruns plays trying to get around blockers gets out of his lane So I think he has one of the faster read and react instincts but sometimes it's too quick and he takes a bad angle or the wrong gap.

But I think I'd rather have James and Liafu Young making mistakes but full speed and aggressive... OK letting them learn on the fly but why is our defensive coordinator supposed to be great with linebackers that's his thing have this biggest problem here?.

Vote for your starting 3. Excluding Overshown due to uncertain availability
I just went with two because overshown is coming back the 3rd one can get rotated in but I believe 2 in this defense are what's on the field at one time More so than not..

How about they bench Murray and Sanborn which is crazy because that's who apparently I'm assuming Matt brought in for his defense specifically and they're not working out You need to find which one to cut off the team completely if you stash one on IR and bring in Kendricks..

I heard this old wise tale that said you don't draft a middle linebacker in the first round and off the ball linebacker unless you use one of those late ones from Green Bay you usually can find those in the 2nd round really good ones the only ones you usually draft in the 1st round are OLB you know with pass rushing abilities guys like Parsons.. But that's not me saying this is what I've heard for years matter of fact they were getting crap for drafting Parsons at 12 thinking he was just an off the ball linebacker I haven't looked at Carters numbers for the Giants yet but being on a super team he should be a lot better so that should be a warning you gotta be careful drafting linebackers high in the first round for sure.. Agree it needs to be top three rounds it should be a priority unless James and Leah Foo grow and we still have overshown well no at the end of the year what our true needs are....

Murray has been sooooooooooooooooooo bad. Might be better to call up a PSer or something.
Should've never signed Murray. He's been a below average player since drafted into the league. He continues to get signed because he's a great athlete and physical. He just plays like he has no idea what he's doing half of the time. Sanborn can read and see the play develop with the best of them, but cant break down in space and make a tackle to save his life. In a very small area around the line of scrimmage, he's ok on obvious run downs. Said it in another thread, there really is no right answer at this position. I'd lean into the younger players with the hope they will show improvement over the season.

Marist/Shemar/Kenneth. Sanborn is not an NFL caliber athlete. I'd rather roll with Marist/Shemar and have an extra DB on the field.

What would be great is if they could trade for a legitimately good LB.

That looks like a majority is choosing the youth movement If we're gonna have poor play we might as well do it while they're learning and they're heading heading upwards....

The hope is they improve with more experience

I'd like to see these coaches shuffle to LBs to find a possible fit.

Put Murray at MLB - bigger LB may do better in the middle helping stop the run, and $6M isn't riding the bench just yet.

Marist at SAM - he's been there, so let him grow at the position.

James at WILL - rookie simply has to hold down the fort till 0 comes back.

Sanborn n Clark are veteran guys who can fill in where need be if this configuration doesn't go well.

None of these guys SHOULD be starters, but it's James, Liufau and Sandborn. And that's unfortunate, but with next year's 2 first rounders we can get a game changer to pair with Overshown. Not much we can do about it this year but prey Overshown returns to form when he's back in action.

They are all bad. Should trade for someone.

James racking up a bunch of tackles is like Jaylon Smith getting a bunch of tackles. I thought he played pretty poorly.
