Which QBs would you rather have instead of Tony Romo?

That's the key for me. Golf and who he shags is criticism of stupid proportions as far as I am concerned. Can he overcome December flops is valid criticism and I won't defend him on that until he does. I do think he was more injured in 2008 than people realize, but it ultimately does not matter. He needs to step up and win in the post season after he accomplishes a good December.
you just have an agenda to hate on El Romo

How long do you intend to be all butt sore over getting called on your agenda? Can we expect you to get over it any time soon or will you just continue to make more inane mentions to show your displeasure?

I don't have an agenda. I just call it like i see it.

I believe Peyton is the most compete QB of all time.

His command of the offense.
His command of the cadence, etc.
His ability to read and adapt to defense at the line and post snap.

The guy is the best ever.

You said the same thing about Favre the other day.
It boggles the mind. Simply amazing how you go to that for these two.

The problem with that argument is they BOTH made stupid QB decisions and threw INT's and made poor decisions and fumbled etc. It wasnt injuries for either. Its what's between their ears.

They both just blew it.
In Tony's defense - the whole offense was blowing it down the stretch.

Honestly, Manning and Brady are the only more talented QBs out there
IMO, and Ben Roethlisberger is decent, but is overrated. It's all about the defense in Pittsburgh that brings the rings.

With that being said, I wouldn't trade Romo for another QB because he fits our system better than anyone out there. Both Manning and Brady would fail on this team I think (and I'm a HUGE Manning fan BTW).

Tony's TD/INT ratio isn't that far out of whack. He's very effective at getting the ball into the end zone. It's the fumbles that really hurt his game last year. They're worse because they happen behind the line of scrimmage and there isn't the element you have with a pick where you can sometimes roll the dice on a lower-percentage play and get burned with an INT.

But the reason we weren't effective down the stretch didn't really correlate strongly to Tony's decision making. Great defenses + turnovers + dumb offensive penalties did us in more than QB play.

Really? This surprises you? In a thread full of people saying Romo's a top-5 guy, seeing someone saying he's top-2 comes as a shocker?

:laugh2:
Yes it does. There are extremes and there are EXTREMES.

I actually like Romo...a lot. But top two, well, that is .1 percentile-type talk.

Please note there's a difference between saying someone is "top two" and that there's only one other QB you'd take over him.

Same here. I think there are some very good QB's that people have listed but I'm happy to have the one we got.

I can buy that. I like Tony too...and he's not a stick in the mud.

But if the question was if you were starting a team right now--not as a homer cowboy fan, but as a GM building a team--there are many QBs out there who I think would be better. This excludes my bias...say I'm a Dolphins or 49ers fan or something (because you know their guys don't make the list).

But hey, as a fellow Cowboy homer, I'm fine with who we have too.

I enjoy watching him play but I do not think he has the mental makeup of a championship QB. Grace under pressure he is not.

Exactly what I was thinking. Eli? Cassel? C'mon...
I see Eli every week and he is definitely not as good as Romo. Watch the games where Eli and Romo play against each other and it's clear who is better. You can also watch many, many other games and you'll see the same thing.
Even if you think Eli is somewhat comparable, you'd rather have him over Romo? He would be sacked 6x/game behind our line and turn the ball over more that he already does (which is quite often).

Except for Cassell and maybe Eli (sub Palmer?), many people around the country would agree with that list. Based on youth and upside, some may even add Flacco.

I didn't say I would do that, but I think given a national poll, you probably came close to nailing it. I'm happy with Tony, but non-Cowboys fans would have a cleaner opinion on the matter.
