Hockenson. You get an elite player at the position at 25 years old as well as two 4th round picks (one conditional that could be a 5) for a 2 and a 3. I do that all day.

Looking only at the actual trades that were made, which one(s) would you have pulled the trigger on?

No speculation on players who weren't traded because we have no idea what the asking price was. Just strictly the ones we know were completed, assuming Dallas would have had to pay the same price.
Hockerson! I’d put a lot of consideration into that one!

I see lots of Smith fans. I watched him Sunday get beat like a drum with passes to Shultz and get washed by the offensive line on run plays. No thank you.

I would have looked for a DT that could be had with a 2nd round pick. Something in that range. I have no idea if that guy exists.

edit: I would have checked in on Vita Vea. No idea what his contract situation is.

Absolutely zero interest in Roquan Smith. One of the most overrated players in the NFL at one of the least important positions that racks up tackles downfield.

Calvin Ridley would have been a fun trade to make. A 2024 2nd if he comes back and plays. From what we've seen of him on the field, that would be worth it.

I also sort of like the 2+3 the Vikings gave for TJ Hockenson. Don't think TE is an important enough position in the Cowboys offense to trade for it, but Hock is better than any other tight end you will get on Day 2. Hell, he is probably better than 1st round TE Michael Mayer coming out this year. Detroit just never used him.

Roquan is overrated as hell. Kearse is a similar player if not better, and he's working for a what is probably a quarter of Roquan's future salary.

Also, a 2nd rounder for a year and a half of Cooks is steep. Houston would have to be eating like 80% of his salary for me to even consider it.

RoQuan wants 20M a year and to be the highest paid inside backer in the NFL.
You'd have given up a 2nd and paid him that?
Yes, would have gave him most of it over 3 years while Parsons is still on his rookie contract.

I am not sure I would have made any of these trades though the one I liked most is Toney to KC.
Toney is a head case but has shown elite talent and skill.
NYG likely not trading him within the division anyway.
But cost/reward there appeals.

The hypothetical one I liked most was Jeudy.
Jeudy was WR1 for me in his class with CeeDee WR2. Jeudy is the route runner that you lost in Amari
Dak would have put up insane numbers again over the 2nd half.

Eagles did good with Robert Quinn but Dallas is awful versus run and great versus pass upfront already.

End of day it would have just changed order in which they were cut.

FWIW PFF considers 60 average play.
Hill has a 58 grade
Ridgeway a 38 grade.
PFF grades on plays made. Even though Ridgeway is graded at 38, he is best when used to occupy Olinemen and plug up the middle against the run. Plus, he's a rookie who is only going to get better with time, strength conditioning and experience. Trysten Hill was already in his 4th season, and he never was a run-plugging DT because he is too small. Cowboys would have been smart to cut Trysten Hill and instead keep John Ridgeway for development. Johnathan Hankins is only signed through the end of this season. He becomes an unrestricted free agent afterwards. That leaves the Cowboys with only Quinton Bohanna as the only true big DT on the team. Problem is he's very young, still inexperienced and only in his 2nd year with the team. Had the Cowboys found a way to keep Ridgeway, they would be looking much better next year with 2 young big DTs, instead of only 1. Too bad the Cowboys still don't take run stopping seriously which is what has hurt them in the playoffs.

Roquan Smith if I had to choose one. I love the player but I wouldn’t want a huge contract for an off-ball LB, so I don’t know that I would have. The trade compensation was definitely doable for me though. I like Smith’s demeanor and locker room value as well.

Other than that…. Maybe Claypool but I think a 2nd was too much, so probably not. Also, I’ve heard that he can be a locker room issue. If that is true, then definitely not.
Is Smith a free agent after this season?
If so, that's a lot of draft capital for a half season rental.

Yes and realistically you could get him for about 5 years and 100M.

So you can lock him in and get him for cheap this year and even likely next due to bonus structure.
But he will eventually eat a lot of cap.
All that said he may have the highest upside of any interior Backer.

Bears were getting an R3 comp for doing nothing so you had to make it worth their while.
Ravens did.
Dallas was never in that convo or head space and we can probably see why after punishing his defense.

Tired of the "what would you have done" question....this isn't just a "today" thing....this is YEARS of being either to cheap or too afraid to do ANYTHING of note in Free Agency. And it isn't our job to answer "what would you have done"....we aren't the Billionaire GM with a full staff of NFL experts...let them figure it the hell out!!!

So who would you have trade for. What would you give up and what contract would you accept?
