Which type of QB should Dallas draft next?

I know it's still a ways down and the question is purely hypothetical BUT...

if and when the time comes that Dallas needs to find a replacement for Romo and both types are available to them, would you rather they draft a pure pocket passer or a mobile QB like RWilson, RGIIII, etc?

I'm old school myself so I'd prefer a pocket QB. Besides, mobile QBs have bullseyes on them and probably won't have as long of a shelf life IMO.

I not so fondly remember the time Jerry & Co. thought they needed a "Randall Cunningham" type of QB, which isn't far removed from the type of QB you cited in your post.

Until I see one of that type of QB win some SB's I'm not convinced.

Give me one just like Romo... Someone with a little bit of mobility who understands the passing game.

I want a QB with a high YPA... A high completion percentage would be wonderful too, but I'll sacrifice come points off the completion percentage in order to get the higher YPA. If the completion percentage is way high and the YPA isn't, well then you've got a "check-down" diva on your hands.

Romo came out with a wonderful combination of attributes... get another like him... Yeah, I know, fat chance!

exactly. take the guy who is the best. i think you look at who is the best passer and i still think i would take luck over rgiii. mobility is a plus but you win with your arm, not your legs

A pass first run 2nd "mobile" QB, like andrew Luck. When you get a QB you have to tailor gimmicky offense around you are asking for trouble. Running QBs only have success when their athleticism matches their ability to absorb damage. Every good running QB was good until their knees, ankles, and head could not handle the punishment. Randall, good until he had a couple knee injuries, Culpepper same, McNabb turned into a pretty good pocket passer but his legs were shot at the end and it affected his mechanics.

I would not be opposed to drafting a running QB but I would not start him until he could learn to be a good pocket passer.

Is what we have today that far removed from the run 'n shoot?

How many SBs did that win? I have to agree with an earlier post its still wait and see. And then take the best QB on the board.

Someone like Andrew Luck (or Troy Aikman). Big, strong dude with a pocket passer background, but who is also athletic enough to run when needed. Unfortunately, those guys don't come along very often and when they do, they tend to be drafted #1. LOL.

The next Andrew Luck would be ok with me

Rodgers is still the prototype for me. A QB that can burn you in the pocket running a traditional offense but also burn you running the ball too

There is a reason why Luck was drafted No. 1 overall. The guy has no flaws. He can throw it anywhere; he's intelligent; he's athletic, and he can certainly run when he has to as evidenced by the game on Sunday. Of course, you need to suck the year before to get someone like that, but he's the type of QB I'd want or at least someone like him.

Aikman ran but I would not say he did it because he could more like he did it because he had to at times. It was his running and desire to hold on to the ball until the last minute in the face of a blitz that cost him about 2-3 years more in the NFL.

I would like a QB who throws but can run if he has too instead of a mostly runs and has to throw on occasion.

And no matter how you frame Johnny Football...I say I want a QB with a good head on his shoulders who is not an idiot like that kid is.
This team gets enough drama, I would be ten fold with Johnny and it is high enough all ready. So to anyone asking if we should take him that would be a resounding heck no from me.

It is a way down but it should not be a way down.

Clone Kaepernick and you have it.
