Which type of QB should Dallas draft next?

* I don't want a run first type of QB, mobile? sure, just like Tony or Aaron
* I would shoot myself if they ever went after Manziel...he is a ******
* We won't draft a QB for several years (at least not one early in the draft - I could see taking a flyer on a 3rd or 4th round guy)

I WANT A QB THAT CAN WIN. I don't care if the guy is mobile, athletic, small, short, fat, skinny... I don't care and winning doesn't care either as long as you put the points on the board.

You are the one who said Randal Cunningham type, and Young has better rushing stats but whatever, I feel you. I'd rather have a pocket passer myself..Young is the exception IMO and I think he has the record for TD throws in a SB so it's not like he relied on his legs in the big game(s). But yeah, Young could and would run ala these cats.

How does Steve Young have better rushing stats than Randall Cunningham?

Steve Young
722 rushes
4239 yards
5.9 yards per carry
43 TDs
1 season with over 500 yards
537 yards was career high
7 seasons with an average of over 6.0 ypc

Randall Cunningham
775 rushes
4928 yards
6.4 yards per carry
35 TDs
6 seasons with over 500 yards
942 yards was career high
9 seasons with an average of over 6.0 ypc

If they find a QB that they like, I can see them taking a QB sooner rather than later. They don't want to be the situation they were at the end of Aikman's career.

Do you think we'll be the worst team in the league?
Do you think he's actually going to go in the top 5?

One thing I haven't seen mentioned a lot, is intelligence.

Give me a smart QB who can make all the throws, and if he can move, that's an added bonus.

With the way he is developing I do see him going in the top 5.

I do think many fans underrate Manziel's draft potential, but I have serious doubts that he will go top five (though it's certainly possible). If he's there late in the first, I would be all in if the Cowboys drafted him--let him sit behind Romo for three seasons and develop a la Rodgers.

With the recent success of young QB's in this league I just don't see him falling. He won the Heisman as a freshman and has shown he can make some difficult throws. If you can cut down on his "erratic" behavior on the field (scrambling/throwing not attitude) he has the potential to be a star. I don't see a lot of teams who are starving for a QB passing up on him.

think the main reason he will fall is there are alot of good qbs coming out with him

Bridgewater, Boyd, and Manziel... I could see all of them going early. Then you have Clowney... so he may fall out of the top 5 but I could see him going above Boyd at least.

Teddy Bridgewater works, but that's not happening unless we're going 2-14.

I hear ya. But these mobile QBs have yet to win a Super Bowl. The last few I can remember that have won it all are all pocket passers (Flacco, Eli, Rodgers, Brees, etc.)

It's an evolution. As a football fan you should know that. There was a time when fans thought the forward pass would not catch on. There was a time when QBs could be of the Sonny Jurgenson physique, fat and immobile. As football evolves, so will its style of play. One day we will be reminiscing how great it was when the QB stepped into the pocket and threw from there.
Mobile QBs will one day rule the NFL. We're just in a transition mode right now.

Perhaps. You're right about immobile QBs no longer being effective. A pocket passer that can move around the pocket still seems to be the way to win it all though.

I'll give it another year or two before saying mobile QBs will rule the NFL some day. I have a feeling that defenses will adapt to their style of play (if not already) and make teams think twice about sending their QB on an option or designed run.

I know it's still a ways down and the question is purely hypothetical BUT...

if and when the time comes that Dallas needs to find a replacement for Romo and both types are available to them, would you rather they draft a pure pocket passer or a mobile QB like RWilson, RGIIII, etc?

I'm old school myself so I'd prefer a pocket QB. Besides, mobile QBs have bullseyes on them and probably won't have as long of a shelf life IMO.

I'm a firm believer that the most important aspects of a QB are the intagibles. So game-style, speed, height, weight, armstrength, etc. are of little importance to me. He has to have confidence, focus, charisma, intelligence, an infectious, positive demeanor. Basically- a good leader with sound abilities. Surround a guy like that with athletes possessing the intagibles, and you have a recipe for success, imo.

It is evolving. I think we are already seeing the subtle change.
