Which type of QB should Dallas draft next?

Obviously the best possible quarterback is always the best option.....But to answer the question, I want a pass 1st, run 2nd type of guy. Meaning he has the ability to run and make plays when needed, but is mostly a passing QB. I just don't want my QB to have lead feet really. Unless you're Tom Brady or Peyton Manning its hard to succeed in today's NFL without at least a little mobility.

I couldn't care less if my QB can run. I mean, it's a fine attribute, but I care far, far more about pocket-passing ability.

A "running" QB isn't a necessity but mobility/escapability is in my opinion when looking to the future. Not a lot Peyton Manning's and Tom Brady's out there they're somewhat of a dying breed. Part of what's made Romo so effective is his mobility/escapability. This is what's made Russell Wilson so good he's a quicker version of Romo. Romo isn't a runner but he can elude defenders and extend plays.

Romo is going to be the quarterback for the next 4 seasons at least, so I don't think they will be looking for a QB to draft for another 2 or 3 years

Huge difference between a "mobile" and "run-first" guy.

Steve Young was very mobile, but he was a pocket passer first and foremost.

Montana was mobile to a certain extent.

Look at Rodgers... He'll scramble for a first down but he's a pocket passer.

You are the one who said Randal Cunningham type, and Young has better rushing stats but whatever, I feel you. I'd rather have a pocket passer myself..Young is the exception IMO and I think he has the record for TD throws in a SB so it's not like he relied on his legs in the big game(s). But yeah, Young could and would run ala these cats.

Young was not the 1st to win a SB, I would give that honor to Rodger the Dodger Staubach...

Roger was considered a "scrambler" not a "runner" similar to Fran Tarkenton. Steve Young could run he ran a 4.5 40 and put up over 4200 rushing yards.

I view Young as more of a scrambler, something broke down he ran. Not that many designed runs that I recall. Anyway, I want someone just like Romo. Give me someone with an arm and a quick release + the ability to buy time in the pocket or out of the pocket. I have a bad feeling that once Mr Romo decides to walk off into the sunset we will have a tough time finding his replacement. We have been really blessed to basically have him fall into our laps, he should have started in yr 1 or yr 2 at the latest...we would not have been any worse off IMO.

exactly. take the guy who is the best. i think you look at who is the best passer and i still think i would take luck over rgiii. mobility is a plus but you win with your arm, not your legs

Not sure why Luke isn't thought of as being mobile, he ran the same 40 time as Cam at the combines. He just don't run as often but he is a very mobile QB.

But the point is if something broke down Young could run. You don't have to have designed runs to be a running QB. In 1990 Young had 8 carries for 102 yards vs NO. Most "scrambling" QB's can't bust one for 50+ yards. When Romo goes off into the sunset it won't likely be his decision and I'm sure the Cowboys will probably have a difficult time finding his replacement which is why they need to start looking in the next couple of years to prepare themselves.

None of these running qbs that have the league so excited are run-first.

Roger could run as well and was probably just as mobile as Young. Are u saying that the Boys will cut Romo before he is ready to leave?

Somebody who can hit receivers in stride beyond 5-7 yards, preferably 40+ and that can scramble when needed....

A lot of QB's coming out can "make the big play" now a days. I'm looking for a pocket passer with escapability. However, the key is his effectiveness. How effective can he be in the passing game. I think that comes down to how quickly he can process information and make a decision mixed with the escapability. You still have to stand in the pocket and make throws. That is never going to go away.

Mobile QB that can pass good enough 100%. I know it's not ideal, but those types are just so damn exciting to watch, I want one.
