Jason Whitlock is an idiot. Just figured I'd come in and reinforce this point. He may make an occasional good point, but it's surrounded in so much BS and he's such a one-trick pony, that his articles just annoy the hell out of me.

I feel better now.

Not me, but I own a couple of Richard Pryor albums. Close enough.

You are unique BB. You are your own race. One of those aliens like in Men in Black. I figured you out long ago buddy. :p:

Yeah. That's close enough. You're an honorary black.

I see where you are coming from and I understand your point.

But you don't see where I am coming from or understand my point.

Which is why there will always be an issue about these subjects.

Making jokes can be an effort to improve, satire and joking about things are a way to bring it to the front without being overly insulting to others.

Bennett poking at things that would be considered racist by some is exactly why it's the right thing to do. Make it a joke, make it all a joke, you can't take racism seriously if it's nothing but a joke to people. If bennet comes off as a buffoon then so do real racists who say the same stuff out of hate.

You don't see how that could be helpful?
I do see your point to some extent. Jeff Foxworthy took the term "Redneck" and changed it from an insult to a title of honor (of sorts). Now us rednecks are proud to be rednecks and don't care who uses the term.

But that experiment has been tried and has failed miserably with the N-word. It has been going on since Richard Pryor starting using it several decades ago and nothing has changed. It is time to try another approach.

If a white says it and its racism then a black should be viewed in the same light.

or

Maybe people should lighten and quit looking to be offended so much no matter what race cracks a joke?

I do not see it as divisive. I see him as trying to unite the black community...his community...in an effort to improve themselves by showing more respect for themselves and thereby recieve more respect from the rest of the world. But it is obvious that you are not going to see it that way so I will simply agree to disagree with you and hope that perhaps others here will see my point...and Mr Whitlock's point.

I see your point, Jack...and I doubt some others will.

But here is a fun little test...

To a black guy: Hey, you, ******, come here.

To a white guy: Hey, you, cracker, come here.

To an Native American Indian: Hey, you, Commander, come here.

To a Italian guy: Hey, you, wop, come here.

Which word is "filtered out", and if it's not such a big deal, why is that word filtered out here?

Some things I just don't understand, some I do.

Time and again Whitlock has shown himself to be a tool who uses his views of "racism" solely to sell articles. If Jemele Hill was a man, she'd be Jason Whitlock.

And the Jason Witten example he uses is nothing short of ludicrous.

This is the most true post ever. Jemele Hill is the most annoying person on television, EVERYTHING she has to say about any debate always reverts back to racism. It is the most annoying thing ever, she has to be related to McNabb.

Bill Cosby sees it the same way.

Why is uniting a racial community acceptable when blacks do it?

It a white person aims to unite his divided race it will be viewed as racism.

Honestly it all comes down to one simple fact. A black guy can call a white guy a cracker or redneck or whatever. And 9 times out of 10 the white guy won't care or won't do anything. The one white guy that does get upset about it or wants to fight about it is called a racist. However the black guy is not considered a racist for using those terms. On the other hand if a white guy calls a black guy the N-word, 99% of blacks would be offended and almost as much would take that word as "fighting" words so to speak. In this situation the roles are reversed from the first situation. The white guy is the racist for using the N-word and the black guy is justified in being upset. That is the basis of the article that is written, and that is the racial divide that the author is talking about. Anyone that doesn't see that obvious divide is living life with blinders on. And that is the obvious divide that the author is talking about. He's simply using Marty B as an example.

And as far as the author using Jason Witten as an example well...he's doing just that. Making a fabricated story up to show how it would offend african americans. And don't tell me it would be ok for Jason Witten or Tony Romo or any other white athlete to do the things that Marty B does. It simply isn't. But it is ok for Marty B to do it or any other african american athlete. That IS a double standard whether you like to believe it or not.

QFT....

I don't think it failed, I think idiots in the media decided to get pissed about stupid stuff and it drug us back.

Pryor was changing stuff, all comedians were, even the white ones, then the whole Politically correct movement hit and undid all that.

This reporter and others like him are hurting things, not helping. S

stuff got great then got stupid again, because idiot reporters and media ****** made the jokes into the bad guys.

It's not representative of the truth, they just want to twist stuff so they can make money and or get famous.

It's pretty deplorable in my opinion.

Now, it's the media's fault?

Using one of Hostile's words...try walking to an Indian reservation down in New Mexico or Arizona and walk up to an Indian and call him a "Commander". The only thing the media will report is how you got the crap beat out of you!

Same is true for an African American! Walk up to one that you don't know and call him a ******. See what the media says about that.

Now, I agree somewhat with what you are saying if taken in the context of humor...but to some, it's not funny. To me it is...because I have a sense of humor...but it's also reverse racism.

Have fun, cracker!

Some things I just don't understand, some I do.

Interesting post 5star. I'll admit, I was a little surprised when my ***** and ****** laced post on the first page was all filtered out after posting it but I can see why the board takes the stance that it does. Some would get highly offended if it wasn't filtered and some would enjoy using it to the fullest extent of the TOS. Double edged sword...

It's a really crazy double standard and there is definitely some history there that feeds into it. I just don't take it too seriously. Life is full of choices and I choose to embrace all regardless of race, color, creed, sexual orientation, etc etc. I think comedy is a great way of getting people to lighten up and realize those perceived barriers aren't really such great concrete barriers at all.

I'm with you, Bleu...

However, for what it's worth, there is a double standard, and I'm glad that some folks can just get past it and not take it serious.

Marty B makes me laugh...I don't care what word he uses...but, he does perpetuate the word, and like the author said, if a white dude did the same thing it would cause an uproar of sorts.

All in all, I couldn't care less...I just want Marty B to score some TD's.

The people MOST responsible for keeping racism alive in this country are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and their ilk.

I too tried (with every fiber) to stay clear of this thread, but this quote pulled me into the vortex.

You can't be serious. If you are you woefully ignorant of American history, sociology, politics and economics.

Not saying you are completely wrong, but you left out a hell of a lot of other people, perhaps some of your own heros throughout American history, politics and media personalities who have and have had a tremendous stake in propagating the legacy of "race" and "race-ism" .
