The consensus is that poor o-line, scheme, qb play and the added attention from being the Doak Walker award winner created a perfect storm.

Is that a viable excuse? Maybe. Does ollie deserve some flack? Undoubtedly.

But if you mixed film from 2023 and 2024, you wouldn't notice a difference in athleticism or ability. He didn't lose a step.

The combine will be interesting for Ollie and a lot of these guys. I have a feeling scouts haven't forgotten Ollie's 2023 season and if he goes sub 4.5 he's going 2nd round.
A 5th round pick on Ollie would be well worth the gamble. In a few years he could be looked at as one of the best backs in the draft.

If Henderson blaze's at the combine he will move up.
He would be my first choice and like alot of people here, would kinda like 2 backs. What do people know of Martinez out of Miami ?
As our thumper to the speed of Henderson, as maybe a 5th rounder ?
I do not want to package all our 5ths to move up into the 4th round, we need all those picks for depth ayers to fill the roster.

Jerry is a putz.

College awards don’t mean much. Trevor Cobb won the Doak Walker and went undrafted. Gino Torretta won the Heisman and was drafted in the 7th round. I could give other examples to. Just sayin…

I mean, yeah. Once you get to the NFL, nothing means much until you prove it again on Sunday.

It is still a metric showing he excelled compared to his peers in the 2nd most competitive football league on the planet.

Other Doak Walker winners:
Bijan
Kenneth walker
Najee Harris
Jonathan Taylor
Derrick Henry
Melvin Gordon
Darren McFadden
Reggie Bush
Cedric Benson
Larry Johnson
Ladainian Tomlinson
Shonn Greene
Ricky Williams
Eddie George
Garrison Hearst

overall, if you win the award you seem to be likely to enjoy some success in the league.

just a smooth athlete that's hard to bring down. 40 yard dash will determine a lot imo. Again, if he's 4.6 or slower, he may be cooked.

I do not believe he goes before the 4th round. I would not take him before the 7th.

I mean, Boise State's OL is nowhere near the talent of Oregon's front 7 and Jeanty ran for 192 & 3TDs on 25 carries.

To be fair, this isn't an argument of Jeanty vs Ollie.

He would have to run a 4.8 to go in the 7th. Fringe 3rd or 4th is probably accurate.

I like plenty of other rbs in this draft and listed them earlier. Didn't include Jeanty because that's not what this threads about.

for example I'd like Kaleb Johnson, but his value in the 2nd vs Ollie's in the 4th? that being said....if ollie runs a 4.51 or lower, doubtful he's there.

Gonna be funny when they do not draft a RB again ........ or only draft one in the 5th round and later

The argument that you put up was Ollie didn't have an Oline. I was pointing out why I found that to be a hollow argument.

I will try harder this time.

The 2nd string RB at Ok St averaged 5.6 ypc
The 3rd string RB at Ok St averaged 4.7 ypc

Ollie averaged 4.6 ypc.

All ran behind the same OL.

I would not take him before the 7th. Best case scenario he had an undisclosed injury. The other potential reasons for this drop off are all red flags.

Its not my argument, it's the argument of oklahoma state fans

who cares what the 2nd and 3rd rb did? They don't draw attention like Ollie. Were you alive when Troy Hambrick had a better ypc than Emmitt?

Oklahoma state offense was not the same. There was a reason why the coaching staff was fired and Gundy almost lost his job. Horrible Qb play and horrible offensive line play. The back up runningbacks got most of their yards when playing against the other teams 3rd string defense because of the other teams blowing out OSU. There was a reason why every coach said the key to beating OSU was to stop Ollie Gordon. The oline was so bad. So it was easy to stack the box and stop Ollie. There was too many times where the defense was hitting Ollie behind the line of scrimmage.
....... OSU never won a single big 12 game.

You need to be Ollie's agent! Plenty of excuses there for the drop off and worse numbers than the back ups.

The problem is I wouldn't bet a high pick on all of his surroundings being the problem.

What do people know of Martinez out of Miami ?
Bruh, watched him yesterday because I'm looking at bigger RBs with good vision, good feet/jumpcut/agility/lateral quickness, hands and finish runs with power n violence. Martinez checks those boxes, his patience stands out too. Reminds me of James Conner from ARZ.
