Frankly I find this question offensive.

Payton will be the next coach if he is not offered another head coaching job before Bill is gone. I wouldn't mind Butch Davis. Another possibility would be Maurice Carthon. Remember Carthon and Payton both interviewed for the Raider job last year.

Dick LeBeau...He could take over our 3-4 defenses without making wholesale changes to fit his scheme. He is a tough, hard nosed coach and could keep discipline with the young guys. Keep Payton as OC (if he would stay) and bring in a good experienced 3-4 coach for the DC,

Not Pete Carroll (USC); he has bombed twice in the NFL; no reason to believe that he would not bomb again.

Not Bob Stoops; he just isn't all that without his brother and I have no reason to believe that he would make a decent NFL coach.

Weis, the game hasn't passed him by yet...
He may love ND, but the DC job is the pinnacle of jobs at the next level.

I'm not sold that the Stoops would have a lot of success in the NFL. They learned under Spurrier and Spurrier tanked in the pros. Their collegiate success is predicated upon their ability to motivate college kids. As Spurrier found out, pros are a different ball of wax.
Holtz is done. Carroll has had his two shots at the pros, didn't work out.
I think Ferentz or Tressel could have success in the pros.
Saban is showing how much difference a coach can make in Miami. Wandstadt is looking more and more like a jackarse.

Perfect fit.......nice pick ghst187

I hope we don't have to worry about this for about 3 more years....but

I'll take Weis....he even looks like Parcells.

I think Weis would maybe want to do it. Follow bill, use his players, coach the most popular team in the NFL.

Whats his ND contract status?

I'm sure OUR first choice or any choice of a new head coach will be Jerry's first priority!!

Personally, I really like Weise but not sure if he would be the guy. Other's I like in the College game are Franchione, Tommy Bowden, Larry Coker but I really like Bob Petrino out of Louisville. I think he gets it.

I might get killed for this, but I agree. I think Payton is being groomed by BP to take over in another year or two.

However that does include taking the reins at three bottom dwelling, 2-5win/season clubs. It's easy to pad your stats, especially in the pre-cap yrs, by building a team and then having 'tenure'. Fifty-seven percent ain't bad considering some of the 'cannon-fodder' he inherited at his last three stops.

More than likely yes Parcells is setting up Payton as his successor, whether or not that really happens I dont know, but Parcells will be here at least 2 years.

As for eventual replacement, Jimmy Johnson is my favorite coach, he still isnt old compared to Parcells, and was a great judge of talent and making things happen. I would love to see Jerry hire him back for what would be highest paid coach in the league.

Weis is a good choice, going to be hard to pass up the cowboys job, when they should be a pretty good team who would have a shot at the superbowl. Wouldnt want stoops at all....
