Going into a next season with Carr as the only experienced QB on the roster after Romo makes me a little nervous.

Just to address the no competition angle a bit: Romo is our starter without a doubt. Just as Bledsoe was our starter when this last season began. If a TRUE competition for the QB spot would have taken place, Romo would have been the starter from week 1 and we could have possibly won a game or two more. Yet we went with the old "this guy's our starter, no doubt" routine and it cost us possibly games and development on Romo's part". A little competition never hurt anyone, and the best guy for the job ALWAYS gets the job in that atmosphere. Romo performed admirably for a stretch, no doubt. He looked pretty pedestrian in many performances towards the end of the season. I'm an open Romosexual (gawd that term still kills me :lmao: ), but if he's TRULY the guy then he should have no trouble beating out anyone we bring in (Carr or otherwise). If not, then he's clearly NOT the guy.

Wrong. Romo is the guy if he proves to be the guy and if he stays healthy. You bring in the best talent you can at all positions and create compatition.

As for the value of Carr, well, if it were to only cost us a 5th round pick, that alone is value. He's started and won games in the NFL. He's got enough talent to win games for you off the bench. How can there not be value if you were able to get that guy as your backup?

Romo is the guy and nobody is going to be brought in to compete with him. For one, Carr makes wayyyyy to much money to be a backup at his current deal. The 5th rounder is not the problem, its his contract that is scaring teams away.

Also Dallas is working on a new contract for Romo and I am sure his agents are going to get him "probowl money". I would be shocked if we are not talking $4-$5 mill a year + signing bonus.

You dont make that type of commitment to your starting QB and then go bring in competition, it just doesnt happen like that. Look for a Vet backup that knows his role and wont rock the boat.:)

I think the point that many on this board are making is that we need a fairly cheap backup in case Romo gets hurt. The team is working on a new contract for Romo that will be "market". I would be shocked if we are not talking $4-$5 mill per yr + signing bonus. You dont make that kind of commitment to your starter and then bring in competition for him, makes no sense financially. What are you going to do, make Romo and his "market" contract a backup, we would only have the most expensive backup in the league.

The decision is made PRIOR to giving a new contract if Romo is the guy or is not the guy. If you think he is, then give him the deal and spend your cap $ on surrounding talent.

Also, how would Romo get beat out when he will be paid WAYYYY more than any backup signed, will be taking probably 75% of the snaps in practice with the 1st team learning Garrett's offense, and will probably play very litte in preseason? Not much of an "open competition" if you ask me.

I think that bringing in Carr is the wrong message to send Romo. Not saying that competition is not good, but this is his job and he needs to know that. Bringing in the former #1 pick of the draft as the "back up" is not a stablizing move IMO.

I think telling romo that the job is his without brining in somone else capable of starting is the worst possible scenerio for the "rebuilding" cowboys.

I think someone will give Carr a chance as a starting QB. Raiders could certainly offer Carr a chance at being the starter.

Oh my.... the more things change for Carr the more they would stay the same.... or worse.... the Raider QB's got blasted last year.... Carr oughta think twice about your idea

There are 32 starting QB jobs in the NFL and Carr like any other QB would like the chance to start. I agree he could get blasted in Oakland but I can promise you he would jump at the opportunity to continue being a starter in this league and not just end up picking splinters out of his backside on the bench.
