Who is most under appreciated player in Cowboys history

Danny was a great player. He just started at a bad time. Anyone following Roger would never have gotten any credit because they were not Roger. I'm guilty of feeling this way about Danny.

Disagree that it's Romo. He may be overappreciated by many, especially when I saw him ranked 3rd on all time best Cowboys QBs.

My pick: Jim Jeffcoat. Jim is an all time great pass rusher. He doesn't get his due because most of his career happened when the Cowboys were terrible. How many even know that he had 10.5 sacks in 1992, and was instrumental in the super bowl victory. Also had 6 in 1993, as his career was winding down.

Good one. Over 100 sacks in his career. 2nd only to Ware in team history and has the most pick-sixes of any Cowboys defensive lineman to play for the team at 2 (he only had 2 INTs in his career - both were TDs). Deion and Diggs only have 2 themselves, by the way.

Romo had a tendency to fold under pressure-the bigger the game, the bigger the chance of a lose as proven by his playoff record and the 3 straight "just win the last game" losses. How was he underappreciated?
Meredith and White were appreciated during their time. They're becoming forgotten over time because they didnt win anything big. I was a huge fan of Meredith but never forgave him for walking away. White got burned by "the catch" but he was appreciated when he played.

for underappreciated I would go more toward Bob Hayes, Chuch Howley, Cornell Green types. Consistent all stars that we took for granted and were ignored by the NFL after they retired

Early in his career, Romo was prone to making bone-head throws in crucial times of games. To his credit, he matured and became a damn good QB. When he realized that he was hurting the team by trying to do too much by himself, he changed, but the stigma of being a choker stayed with him.

How is Troy Aikman not appreciated? He won 3 SBs, made 6 Pro Bowls, was a 1st Team All Pro and even was a SB winning MVP. Everyone appreciates Troy. I'm amazed you didn't mention your hero, Romo.

Aikman didn’t put up big numbers and a lot of fans believe the Cowboys could’ve won those three Super Bowls with a number of different QBs. The Cowboys offense revolved around Emmitt Smith and the running game. Aikman had so much talent around him and his numbers were pedestrian compared to his peers. A lot of fans on this board don’t think he was anything special based strictly on his numbers. I’m not one of those fans, I think he was a great player and he made a lot of big throws in critical situations like the throw to Alvin Harper in the 92 NFC title game. Aikman actually got booed by the fans in the late 90s who were wanting Randall Cunningham to replace him. Many fans don’t like him as a broadcaster which has caused him to be disrespected by a lot of Cowboys fans.

Losing three straight NFC title games and coughing up a fumble in the closing seconds against San Francisco in the 81 title game didn’t help earn him respect. It wasn’t easy following Roger Staubach. Danny couldn’t get the team over the hump and a lot of fans blame him. If a QB doesn’t lead the Cowboys to a championship they’re going to be under-appreciated.

I'm one of those fans who has mentioned his bad play during those bad years very early and late in his career when he no longer was surrounded by great talent, but during those playoff years, there was no QB better than Troy, especially during the playoffs.

It's Danny White. He did what Romo and Dak never did, he took the team to a conference championship, but he did it 3 consecutive years in a row. Losing those games makes people forget what he did. I respect Danny and remember him as a better QB than Romo and Dak.

You lost credibility by throwing Romo and Dak into this. Danny White was great in his own way. There is no denying that. But, he was not a better passer than Romo and Dak. Danny White was surrounded by ex-SB championship veteran players, yet he was not able to lead them to another SB. Surround Romo or Dak with ex-SB winning players, I guarantee either one would lead that group back to a SB.
