4.57

Also loved Olave last year. Think Addison is kinda similar.
You expect a 4.57? That’s kind or around what I’m expecting as well.

What I’m afraid will happen is that he will skip the 40 at the combine, will then run like a 4.48 at his pro day, and we still won’t have a good feel for how fast or slow he is.

Yeah, I see Addison similar to Olave too. One of the things that I loved about Olave is that he just had a knack for locating the deep ball and making the catch. A lot of guys run good routes, can run fast, etc…. But for whatever reason, don’t have that knack for catching the ball over their shoulder down the field.

How do you think Addison is doing that? I haven’t watched a ton of him because I expect him to be gone well before Dallas picks.

If he runs a 4.48 at his pro day tack on .10 seconds and that’s realistic…in which case he’s more of a 4.58 guy and we’re spot on.

I wouldn’t consider Addison a true deep threat but I do think he can win at all 3 levels. I think he’ll run in the 4.4s and he has plenty of tape catching the deep ball.

I think it is a better bet to take Mayer, Robinson, Gibbs, oline, or corner over a receiver at 26.
Really, we won’t know until we know who has been taken before our pick.

I definitely feel the team should not go into the draft thinking they’re going to skip any position at their first pick. They need to take the best player, whoever that is.

What if Robinson and Gibbs are gone and for some reason Addison is still there? You don’t want to skip WR just because you don’t want that in the first round. Addison is a great player.

As long as there is somewhat of a need there, the team needs to keep an open mind.

I will say that there is certainly a chance that WR is already picked over and that the BPA is a guy like Robinson. In that case, I would absolutely take Robinson instead of the Cowboys 5th rated WR. Or Schmitz instead of the 5th rated WR. That is what I’d want the team to do.

They just need to take the best player and not rule out this or that. Make your board and stick to it. And that is really how the Cowboys have been doing it.

Dallas has been killing it in the draft for a long time now. They’ve been making good decisions and getting a lot of takent.

Yeah, I like Addison but don’t see the deep threat that Olave was… which was a big reason that I wanted to get Olave.

I really haven’t made a deep dive into the WR’s yet. This weekend I’ll probably spend some time really ranking them for myself. I’ll have a better feel for that group once I’ve done that.

I appreciate the dialogue man.

I’m sure you’ve heard of Jalen Hyatt as deep threat guy, but check out Trey Palmer.

Olave was my favorite WR in last years draft. I really liked him a lot.

I worry about JSN’s speed. I could be wrong because I have misjudged a player’s speed before… but I don’t think JSN will run very well at the combine.

If he does run well, I will feel a little better about him in the first round.

If he doesn’t run at Indy and waits on his pro day, that will be somewhat of a red flag for me.

What do you expect him to run, time wise?

I’m going to really take a deep dive into him in the next couple of days. That might change how I feel about him, but right now I’m a little lukewarm on him as of this moment.
I really don't know what to expect and you are right, if he doesn't run at the combine, huge red flag. However, if he runs under 4.5, we might be looking at another Amari Cooper type of player. I really do believe he has #1 receiver potential if he tests out well, if not, more of a 2nd rd receiver.

This is the problem with this year's class, every receiver has his warts, even Addison who didn't have a great final season on the college level and is real light.

Perfect world, you sign a quality #2 receiver in fa and then draft another one inside the first three rounds. My focus for the Cowboys is strong route runners and players who will go for the football, rather then elite speed options.

I want a True X WR like Dez who can GO up and get the ball as well go across the middle. To me those are bigger guys 6'2 + i want someone with big hands and that can explosively jump out of the building.

Rice SMU
Tillman TENN
Mingo OleMiss
Davis Fresno State
This is the type of receiver the Cowboys usually target and ones who are high level, route runners. I am very high on Mingo.

I'm ok with Robinson or Schmitz.

If JSN runs in the 4.4 range, I'm all over him, but 4.5-4.6, I will look elsewhere.
If I was able to bet the over I would…

I don’t think it matters so much if he’s going to be a slot only and just eat short and intermediate passes but i’m the 1st ideally you want a little more ceiling.

I believe Amari Cooper ran in that low 4.4 range, with similar size/weight and he could play any receiver spot. We aren't expecting his athletic score to be anything close to Cooper's, but if he surprises, he could potentially become that type of player. Yes, a lot of if's, but let's not forget about his 2021 season, 1,600 yards and 9 touchdowns with two former 1st rd picks on the same team.

JSN could run a 4.3 and he still wouldn’t be in Coopers class as a prospect for me. I had Coop as a blue chipper. Literally checked every box.

Cooper was a top 5 selection, just using his traits as an example. JBN must meet some athletic barometers for us to project him as an outside receiver, right now he appears to be slot only.

This is the problem with every single 1st rd receiver this season, they all have warts, they isn't one clean prospect, even Addison isn't coming off a great college season. In my opinion, this isn't the draft to find a quality #1 type, plenty of #2's, but you have to overpay to get them. Much rather sign a fa and draft another receiver on day 2.

That’s what I mean about Cooper. He was a + athlete with good size and had production winning inside / out at all 3 levels in the SEC. He was about as clean as a WR prospect as you can be.

JSNs college tape has shown him to be a slot only stud. Even if he tests really well there’s still projection with him where there wasn’t with Cooper.

Kupp might be a comp but he’s quite a bit bigger.

I really don't see one true #1 receiver in this class, that is the issue when we are talking about drafting one in the 1st round.

Agree. Johnston has the traits to become that but I see him as more of a top 25/30 guy than top 15 guy.
