Who is the better quarterback: Eli Manning or Tony Romo?

It's pretty easy to be a great qb when you have one of the best offensive lines in football, and a top 3 defense every year.
I don't think a team like that exists in the NFL.

Not in the playoffs. Eli's numbers are significantly better in the postseason.

You're talking about a pathetically small sample size, especially with Romo, where 1 of his 4 playoff games was in his 11th career start, and he spent 2 of the other 3 running for his life.

It's like Kobe vs LeBron.

LeBron's numbers show that he is unquestionably the better player. A much more efficient scorer, better passer, better rebounder, and better defender.

Kobe's rings give his fans, LeBron haters, and illogical people everywhere the ability to discredit LeBron and pretend that Kobe is superior.

And that's basketball. A sport in which an individual star has FAR more ability to "take over a game" than a QB in football.

It's really simple, people. Either you believe football is a team sport or you believe it's QB vs QB throwing balls at targets for 3 hours. Either you believe it's "Kobe vs Kevin Durant" and the other 8 guys on the court are largely irrelevant or you believe basketball is a team sport.

What you can't do is have it both ways.

Tony Romo is easily the better QB than Eli Manning. Cut the nonsense. There will never be any reasonable justification for using team success to judge individual players. It's for silly, illogical people.

If Eli was even close to as good as Romo, their numbers would be comparable. They're not because he's not.

Basically the crux of it right there. Romo's numbers are the 2nd best in nfl history.

If he had the team around him that Eli has had, he would have been more successful.

Eli has had a better team and you can tell by the stability of the head coach. His head coach has kept his job since 2004.

We've had Parcells, Phillips, and Garrett in Romo's tenure...

It took Coughlin four years to put together a championship team. Parcells was here from 2003-2006, of which Romo was there for 1 year. Phillips had 3.5 years, and now Garrett has only had 1.5 years.

Our lack of continuity hurts us.

I'm still trying to figure out how we rank so highly in yards every year, but still can't finish.

I restate that Eli is Jim Plunkett II. He is not a Joe Montana, Elway, or Brady type who is the main reason for his team's success. He is the Plunkett type that happens to be on a great hot team at the moment and won't mess it up too bad for them. I find it hilarious you Gnats fans are all ready to put Eli into the HOF.

Yes, I know. Eli is always comparable to the worst starting QB with same number of Superbowl rings. Before last year, he was Trent Dilfer. Now he's Jim Plunkett. But I'm curious. If the Giants win another one, is Eli ONLY going to be Troy Aikman? Or Tom Brady?

Could be. If the Gnats flop around the field faking more injuries, cut more cap space from their division rivals, intentionally try to injure Kyle Williams again on his past concussions who knows? They might follow John Mara who already has his head up the backside of Godell so far, they could do anything.

Speaking of 2006 - who gets credit for that draft class? Parcells or his fancy scouting regime?

How many times did Eli just heave the ball downfield and his WRs bail him out by making a spectacular play?

You can't discount what Eli has done, but he has been VERY fortunate. There were THREE balls he threw in the NFC Championship that were so poorly thrown two 49er defenders knocked each other off the ball on each throw.

What I'm saying is you need for stuff like that to happen and it's happened for Eli quite a bit. But a win is a win and we'd all take it.

Your argument isn't flawed at all. And Eli has never let the Giants down when it counts.

How about that game in Seattlr last year where they were driving and he made one of the worst throws ever? I believe it was a game sealing pick 6.

Ya to say he has never let the Giants down is crazy, the same goes for Romo though. But there have been many times where Eli has thrown his fair share of interceptions or had poor games costing the Giants.

Tony Romo, and it's (still) not even close.

Tony Romo Career:
QB Rating- 96.9
Comp %- 64.5
Avg TD/gm- 1.79
Avg INT/gm- 0.86
Fumbles(Lost)- 41(19) - in 99 games
Best year- '11-'12 (102.5 QB rating, 31TD/10INT)
Worst year- '08-'09 (91.4 QB rating, 26TD/14INT in 13 games)

Eli Manning Career:
QB Rating- 82.1
Comp %- 58.4
Avg TD/gm- 1.52
Avg INT/gm- 1.06
Fumbles(Lost)- 67(31) - in 121 games
Best year- '09-'10 (93.1 QB rating, 27TD/14INT in 16 games)
Worst year(not including rookie year)- (73.9 QB rating, 23TD/20INT)

In comparison, Eli Manning's best year would've been eclipsed by Romo's worst year had he not missed those 3 games. Romo has been better in every facet of his game compared to Eli. Don't bring up championship wins. It's a team sport. Get real.

These comparisons are a joke. Stop it, please.
If stats were all that mattered in selecting a QB, you'd choose Marino and Fouts over Bradshaw and Aikman.

When it comes to winning a SB, there's more to it than just stats for a QB.

When Eli just had the one SB victory, I could make a powerful argument on why I thought Romo was the better QB.

But after two of them... That takes Eli Manning out of the Dilfer crowd.

One SB victory can be lucky... two of them shows an elite QB.

Look at the list of QB's each beat for their teams last four victories of the season:

Tony beat:
Fitzpatrick
Grossman
Moore
Freeman

Eli beat:
Romo
Rodgers
Smith
Brady

Tony Romo is better than most of the other QB's in the NFL. But to be better than all of them he needs to accomplish more than what he has up to this point.

You've zero'd in on something I think is important in this discussion. In Eli's two SB playoffs runs, he beat:

2007

Romo (In Dallas)
Favre ( At Lambeau)
Brady (Neutral Field)

2011

Rogers (at Lambeau)
Brady (Neutral field)

Just look at that level of competition. He beat others (Ryan, Alex Smith, etc).

Romo's single playoff victory was against a Donovan McNabb who was pretty much shot (the loss was his last game as an Eagle).
