Its pretty simple. Who is the Benedict Arnold feeding the press?

Werder came out and said that it was somebody on the team so I want to get an idea of who people think it is. Say what you want but the majority of the turmoil lately stems from them.

The people I think can be ruled out are:

Owens
Witten
Romo

As they were the people named.

I also think that you can rule out RW11. He made several comments that went contrary to that.

Anyone else have input? Other team members that contradicted the statements would help deduce who it was.

My guess is Greg Ellis. He seems to like to air his dirty laundry to the press. For all I know though it could be Folk.

Carpenter, Crayton, James and Ellis seem too be some of our more opinionated players who like to talk a lot to the press. Ellis is always whiny, James likes to talk about everyone else's problems, and Carpenter and Crayton both had reason to have beef with their diminished playing time (Carpenter only because he's a "name" first-round pick, not because he deserves to be playing more).

So that would be, to me, a starting list of the obvious suspects. But the source could also very easily be a backup lineman or safety -- someone perhaps unsettled with their role and/or who observes all the problems from afar in the locker room and can't wait to get buddy-buddy with the press and air out the dirty laundry. Really, there's no way to guess who the source could be.

I agree with the OP that I'd be shocked if this mess came from Witten. For one, it's not his MO, and secondly I don't think he had anything to gain by ratting out T.O.

Carpenter

I was thinking that too.

It was said that Carpenter was Romo's "best friend".

He was that other player in Mexico along with Romo, Jessica, and Witten.

I feel he's the "other guy" thats close to both Witten and Romo.

Again, it's just my opinion.

Interesting point. Hadn't really thought of that connection in that way -- that he's right there by their side hearing any dirt said, yet as a non-star of this team doesn't really have much to lose by blabbing. Meaning that a guy like Witten or Romo is gunning for the Super Bowl and would probably rather dust aside personal issues to get to the big game; Carpenter, on the other hand, as a backup, I'm not sure could care less.

This question has to be asked: How the heck does Carpenter get to hang out with Romo and Witten? Certainly they can find a cooler third wheel.

Carpenter and Romo and Witten are good friends. Carpenter went to Cabo w/ Witten and Romo et al.

He has a relationship w/ ESPN (why only god knows). He doesn't seem that well liked by the team, meaning he could be gone and he is looking for a second career as no one else will pick him up.

He likely is privvy to the "Tony is over it" talk that Werder reported. However, he just looks like the type that would ask Tony something and Tony say " Screw it, I'm not worrying about that" and turn it into "tony is fed up".

If it was Witten, then I wouldn't be surprised either, but it would more than likely be Witten's agent (Jimmy Sexton - parcells agent) who coorobborated it.

TO has basically stayed away from the direct personal attacks and talked about scheme. The interview he did with Deion was the "TO trap". He was trying to explain that he hadn't "lost it". To do so, he has to answer what he thinks is different. He should have never done the interview, no matter what he says, it will be spun as negatively as possible. But if you want a soundbite from TO, tell him he has lost it (when B Johnson and Romo injuries and Garrett slump is part of the reason)

But whoever leaked that there were "meetings" and receivers mad, and "drawing up plays" is in my estimation 10000 x the bad teammate that TO has been since he has been here.

Whoever leaked it wanted to cause a circus and wanted to cause everyone to have to answer for it.

Maybe they have more in common.

He was a 1st round pick (I'd wish we had Manny Lawson Instead but that's another story) and maybe Romo and Witten were the guys that made Carpenter feel more welcome in Dallas.

For Example: Dirk Nowitski hangs out with the behind-the-scenes people like the equipment manager etc..... He doesn't hang out with his teammates.

I dont think anybody can say exactly who unless they were in the locker room and see what realtionships players have with each other in both poistive and negative fashions. For all we know it could of been Mcbriar. If I had to make an educated guess I dont think its Witten or Owens. If Witten was involved in an altercation he is not the type of player who runs to the media. Hes oldschool. Owens hates Ed Werder, so, if I can quote him "Next question." I cant elimnate Romo because he could be taken up for his best bud Witten and if you remember last year when we played the Packers on NFL network during the pregame you could see Werder and Romo having a long conversation with alot of laughing. I dont think it was him though because whoever did this wanted to see our ship sink. I think I can elimnate Ellis because once he saw the conterversy it caused he would of never of went back for more. I dont care how mad he was, hes a veteran that knows better. I dont think it was an olineman because they never speak. That leaves 2 candiates who have a history of conterversy and thats Crayton and Carp. Also, dont rule out the immaturity of Bennett. If I had to pick it would be Crayton though.

He has every motive.

1. His role has decreased immensly this year.
2. We got Roy Williams and he was given his spot without any comp.
3. With TEEO gone it would move him back into the spotlight as the number 2. With him here his career has a chance to go down the tubes.
4. When healthy Miles Austin was pushing him and probably outproduced him as well.
5. If I were him I would feel unwanted and forgotten about.
6. To me, Crayton has always been its about me player than team.
7. When your jobs on the line you do weird things to keep it.

just some fun guesses though
