Who Remembers The "Scab" Season When The Regulars Went On Strike?...

Looks like Reggie only appeared in 1986, the year before the strike. White was out with the broken wrist and Pelluer was, well he was Pelluer.

I remember an article in Dallas Cowboys Weekly during that season that asked who was the fastest Cowboy between Herschel Walker, Tony Dorsett, Reggie Collier and Mike Sherrard. Dorsett said he would win anything shorter than 60 yards and Collier said he would win anything over 50 yards. Herschel and Mike didn't make any comments in the article. That article also offered up a wild fantasy of the team running the option with Collier at QB, Walker at FB and Dorsett at TB and then Collier faking the option and throwing the ball deep to a streaking Sherrard.

The first football game I ever saw was Southern Miss with Collier vs Mem St and Collier kicked our butts.

I remember when Dorsett made the claim he would kick any player ars who crossed the picket line and when Randy was asked about it he said Tony knows where to find me.

LOL....I remember that also.....Ed "Too Tall" Jones said Randy White was the only player he ever seen where noone ever challenged him to a fight because everyone knew in advance it was be a arse whippin!

Tony could talk the talk but was not willing to walk that walk. LOL

I remember having a pretty crappy regular team and the scabs where awesome, especially they guy who played defensive tackle. I can't remember his name but he played with twice the emotion of any of our regular starters. I was actually a little upset when they did not let that guy have a shot at the roster.
Mike Dwyer #71 I believe. He was one the cover of one of the game programs. That team went 2-1. Washington proved it had the best organization in the league by assembling a 3-0 team that beat the Cowboys in Dallas despite regular starters Danny White, Tony Dorsett, Randy White, and Don Smerek all playing.

Romo actually does remind me some of Sweeney. Don't really know why, but he does.

I think it was Kelvin Edwards - he scored on a reverse I think in the first "scab" game. I think he was from Liberty, same school as Eric Green TE with Pittsburgh. But there is no telling what I am remembering, my memory has never been very good.

Wow, I just happen to have stashed in my desk at work a rare item - a program from Cowboys vs Eagles - Oct. 11, 1987. Never thought this would actually come in handy. No, I was not there.

Now THAT is a unique first post....

Welcome aboard. :)

If that game was in Philly, then I was at that game. My Dad got tickets because no one wanted to go to the game. My buddy and I went and sat in the nose bleed seats. It was my senior year in high school.

Thanks Juke,
Actually, I'm a faithful daily reader of the Zone since it began (in another form) It's perhaps the BEST sports forum around.

The low point was losing to a scab Commanders team on Monday Night even though we had Danny, Tony D and Randy White in the lineup.
I remember that season very well. It all sucked big time. Losing to the GD Commanders was the worst of all. No way I want to ever go through that again. Labor problems in the NFL are nothing but a big pain.

Yeah, I remember Kelvin Edwards, too. I was 17 then and, funny enough, was still very excited about those scab games. If memory serves, the first one was in NY vs. the Jets. That's when the Cornell Burbage legend was born.

Next week, at TS, the infamous line crossing game. I recall that one being blacked out locally (a few were that season). This one is where the Buddy Ryan venom originated, as everyone knows.

Then, I believe the scab finale was a Monday nighter here against the Skins. Tony Robinson, the Skin's replacement QB, flashed some legit NFL skill. Too bad the guy couldn't stay away from cocaine.

If I'm not mistaken, the third week of that season was wiped from the slate due to the strike. There were only 15 games that season. All told, that was a very forgettable year
