Who should Ramsey replace, Church or Carr?

With Jones looking like he's going to move to safety we can't be using a #1 on another safety especially with the 4th overall pick. A DB drafted that high needs to be a corner/playmaker someone who can lock down on an opponents #1 receiver. The problem with Ramsey is no one seems to know what he is a safety or corner. Some seem to think he's an NFL corner but it's been mixed.

People forget Eric Berry was picked 5th overall. It's not unheard of to see a safety go this high. Take Ramsey, give him #28 and forget about the safety position for a decade.

Even without looking I'm betting KC had better corners than we have when they drafted Berry. With our situation we need a lockdown type corner with that pick. I don't believe the Cowboys will take Ramsey if they don't feel he can be an outstanding NFL corner. They drafted Byron Jones to play corner but saw he was better suited to play safety.

Carr.

And I'm all for safety play. But you could move Byron to FS and have a competition for the SS spot between Church, Wilcox and Heath.

Of course, it's 6 in 1, half dozen in the other. I wouldn't mind seeing Ramsey at FS and Byron at corner.

The problem isn't whether to put Ramsey at CB or safety. it's what to do with both Jalen Ramsey and Byron Jones.

The better skills of both have been universally reported much better suited to play safety and we sorely need a CB.

He won't replace anyone. If we are are him, he will be a backup most the season.

If you saw my first post I proposed Ramsey being safety this year and next year moving him to corner. That probably means drafting a late round developmental safety this year hoping hes ready to takeover next year.

There are those who aren't even close to thinking that Ramsey would be able to provide the same expertise at corner that he does at safety. It'll make one wonder if they're right or not.

A report that the Cowboys organization got recently reportedly stated that Ramsey, in fact, doesn't possess nearly the capabilities at corner that he does at safety. I imagine time will tell.

Ramsey is not replacing anyone because we are not drafting him. Well he will not be the first pick if we were to draft him. elliot will be the first pick

Ramsey is #1 on the Dallas Draft Board, creates cap flexibility and leverage vs Carr, he also adds impact game changing ability that the NFL has not seen since Troy Polamalu.

Elliot will not be the pick, Dallas has invested in successful Veteran RBs the last two years consecutively. Futhermore next year the top 6- 8 RBs should rate out much better pure runners than Zeke. Several will compare to Peterson and Gurley.

Ramsey is just so good at safety. Facing the QB and roaming the middle of the field he is a bigger Honey Badger. A bigger Troy Palamalu. The guy is dynamic, catalytic, and is an alpha dog among alpha dog's. Or as my Father put it... He is a wolf among dogs.

He will change the entire secondary, no matter what position he plays... but stick him at safety along with Jones and watch everyone in the back seven change for the better. Both Ramsey and Jones would be used all over from blitzing, to covering TE's and out of the slot. Safeties are used differently these days and versatility is a huge plus.

His attitude is bullet proof and it is contagious to his team mates.

Probably the best player in the draft if Tunsil isn't.

IMO he is a generational player that doesn't come around often. The Cowboys love him and if he is there at 4, he will be the pick.

Carr no doubt

Church is gone next year and only cost 4.75m against the cap
Carr cost 13.8m

CB1- Ramsey
CB2- Claiborne
CB Slot- OScandrick
FS- BJones
SS- Church

I disagree. Word is that Ramsey is not worth the #4 pick at CB. In fact, many scouts have him as the THIRD best CB in the draft, behind Hargraves and Alexander. Some even rate Jackson ahead of him at CB. If you want a CB, get one of those guys at #34.

That's not to say I wouldn't take Ramsey, however. I'd just take him as a safety, and devise some "hybrid" way to use him in the nickel.

So well go into the season with the 66th ranked safety starting again?

I just think that's where the team will start him initially, same with Jones. Be okay with me if they cut Carr w their new leverage and still eventually move Ramsey to SS if we stand pat and pass on Lynch/Elliott/trade down for Lawson. Carr can be replaced by a rookie for all I care; his production is JAG, pay for JAG. He has no role in a zone scheme anyway. We only played cover 1 man so much last season bc of the terrible play of Wilcox/Church and our "talent" at CB w Carr and Mo being man corners. Scan can play zone, but you need athletic safeties to make it work. Mo is a man corner too so not sure why he was resigned outside of depth. Draft some zone corners in the mid rounds and let them fight it out in camp.

So both (replacing Carr initially then Church) :D Maybe he will force the FO's hand in letting go of average players, etc.

Ramsey? He is not that good. There is not one RB in next year's draft that is better than Elliot. Elliot is a day one starter he will help win at least 5 games, he knows pass protection he is a pure runner and receiver, he can and will block with a vengeance. None of the RBs coming out next year will do that or even wants to, running the ball is all they know, they will have to be taught things that Elliot already does. You have got to be kidding me. Ramsey are you serious.

I don't want him, but seeing Church replaced by someone with dome speed would be nice.
