At the risk of some criticism, I don't think he'll be able to play at an elite level ever again.

Back trouble, not being able to practice and missing loads of games in a season results in a rapid decline if your Tony's age.

If the offensive system doesn't change it won't matter who the backup is. It's like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. You saw it this season.

However I do agree that we need to be actively looking for Romo's replacement.

The route trees for WR's and TE's in this offense are just brutally pathetic.

Where do you get 20% from? Romo was played in every game just last year. Obviously he broke his collar bone this year, but it's ridiculous to speculate on breaking a bone.

I have no statistical data to justify 20% and I don't necessarily think another broken collar bone will be the problem.
However I think his back which is the basis for all our movement will be compromised more and more. There is no fixing that. Yes you can manage the pain but how long does that continue to work? How long until Romo thinks these shots are effecting his long term health?
Romo now has a target on his back (no pun) and this offensive scheme that our awesome HC has designed for him is very unfriendly to his predicament. Another year older, another camp, a wrong step here or a slip in the pocket much less a blitzing linebacker can end it all very easily.
Hope not but he's turning into glass very quickly.

Through next season without any injuries? I dont, he'll be 36 and hasnt played a full season since 2011. We have to draft qb in the first round, or we'll be looking at the same results next season.

The writing appears to be on the wall for Romo. This may be the tip of the iceberg for us and for him. He may never truly be healthy again. For Jones to think he can be our QB for the next 4 or 5 years is really the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If it happens its pure luck. But you cant prepare that way. Back and broken bone issues the last few years. If they dont do what they can to sure up the QB position with the air apparent, this team is going to take a nose dive for another 10 years minimum. This may be the beginning of the end. Look had badly this brass bumbled Romos career. And what are the chances they stumble upon another Romo again? Not likely.

I think you have to be prepared for all contingencies, but yes I think it is very possible Romo makes it through a season without a serious injury. Drafting a QB in the top five won't do us any good. None of the kids coming out are plug and play starters. We still need to find an adequate back-up.

Where is rationale behind this thread coming from?

In the last five years he's played 15,15,16, 16, & 4 games.

The same amount as Roethliberger by the way. Yes injury is always a concern and he's older but it's not like he's been playing half seasons. Brady has missed full seasons before and Peyton us right on the edge, it happens but I don't see this as a trend and there's nothing to suggest there is.

I agree we need to find his replacement but c'mon. He had two awkward hits on the same injury and it will be fully healed and he's another year removed from back surgery.

Thank you.

Now I'll go back to lurking bc it's threads like these which made me run screaming from the board.

If he doesn't have to hold the ball for 5 seconds every play there's a shot. Doesn't tom Brady hold the ball an average of 2.5 seconds? That's crazy!!

I hope he doesn't. The AFC North is a physical division. Our own division has been responsible for his recent injuries. I think NY and PHI are tied one each in the broken clavicle department while the Commanders reside in the lower back area.

When he did play this year he didn't look good. He depends on scrambling around to make plays and that is about gone. He just can't move like he used to. We need to draft a QB high and let Romo start until he gets injured and then let the draft pick play. IMO..........

They would really need to work on some things to lower the probability of hits. Romo gets hit a LOT. Line needs to play better, Romo needs to release quicker, and refs need to penalize late hits on him. That combo and I think the odds go up a good amount.

Romo has never seemed comfortable throwing the ball in that kind of scheme.

He probably wont but since hes the franchise qb, you lean on him assuming that he will anyway, because the season is sunk if he goes down. I hope the draft a qb, but i dont want them playing for a year or two.

Demarco is gone so all bets are off. I honestly can't see him making it through.
