If Henry was a better WR, I wouldn't dare take the bet. But the whole concept vs. risk/reward is that the reward must be substantial enough to justify the risk.

Chris Henry isn't all that good.

Still waiting on those terms, juckie.

I'd take that bet in a minute.

He probably won't be in the league this year.

Actually I think it is a good chance that Henry is a Cowboy in the very near future. Why?

1) He is a very good receiver who was rather valuable to the bengals offense. They actually lost production during his suspension time. He surely would have had larger numbers if he wasnt playing with two Pro Bowl receivers.

2) Henry was never considered a bad teammate and was well liked by the Bengals. Sure, he was a knucklehead off the field but on the field and the locker room he was o.k.

3) Just like Pacman and Tank Johnson, there is little risk involved in bringing him in. He will probably make the league minimum and if he screws up, you have players who will easily take over his position. You will not be dependent on him like the Bengals were so the loss (if and when he screws up) will be minimal.

4) Again, just like Pacman and Tank Johnson, he knows he is on his last leg and even a traffic ticket will get him thrown out of the league. Pacman never understood the severity of his situation until after he was traded and still had to wait to be reinstated to just practice with the team. Before then, he was still defending himself and minimizing his actions. Now, he is contrite and has become a choirboy because he realizes the situation and has people around him that has opened his eyes. I think Henry is in the same situation.

5) We need another receiver, period. Jerry will see that this may be a guy who can help his team win now and although he may take a PR hit (like the signing of Tank and Pacman and T.O), Jerry will always think of team first. Each time Jerry signed a player that was considered controversial it always came down to the player being able to help him win. The only difference is that the players normally turned out to be very good players who helped the team win. It happened with Deion, Terry Glenn, Keyshaun, Tank Johnson, Pacman(TBD), and maybe Henry.

6) Henry will get off on these charges and be reinstated. The fact that the judge threw out one charge and he had a 6-2 acquittal vote says that another trial should be in his favor. The trial is in about two week and should be over by the middle of camp. The league will have to reinstate him when found not guilty and he will be a free agent. There are a number of teams that could use him (Titans, Bears, Dolphins, Chiefs, Falcons) but right now those teams would not have the patience to sign him. Each have had thier issues with "character" players and dont want the headache. The Cowboys may be the only team willing to take him on.

7) The Cowboys probably are the only team in the league that has the support system that actually helps players develop into productive men. Calvin Hill has done an excellent job of preventive maintenance with these guys and I read on PFT that the Dallas Cowboys is actually the only team in the last few years that has not had a player arrested. You guys can say what you like about who we bring in but the facts are that the enviroment encourages good citizenship and accountability. The bottem line is Chris Henry alone (just like pacman and tank johnson) cannot disrupt the harmony of this team and the Cowboys have enough stand up players to not allow him to do that anyway. The Bengals was a team of misfits and players acted accordingly. Not here!

I say sign him and make a very good team even better!

In 2005 Jerry Jones told his scouting department to take Henry off the board. A reporter mentioned Henry's name to Jerry earlier this off season.

Mark Mosley reported it this way.

Jerry Jones has decided that Tank Johnson and Pacman are the only reclamation projects he can take on right now, according to one high-ranking source at Valley Ranch.

"I don't there's any interest in the guy at this point," said the source.

I believe there's even some stronger language than that out there about him.

I think you guys are wrong about Henry not getting signed. It is one thing to waste a draft pick on a guy and another thing to bring someone in with soemthing to prove and trying to stay in the league. I think once you have walked on the cracked ice being out the league with the next step then I think the motivation changes. Sure, Henry almost fell in with this last incident but I just think he knows!

I dont know about that one Hos...Jerry played the company line for awhile but in the end I think once he realized he could get alot for little, then he said o.k. Even then he didnt and hasnt depended on him. He still has his healthy starters and spent a first round pick on Jenkins. Personally I think Pacman was and is far more risk than Henry because pacman was a thug. Henry just did stupid things like DUIs and serving alcohol to minors. Pacman was involved with drug dealers and guns and spitting on women!

Hell, if Pacman can turn it around than anyone can!

I didn't say that Jordan. I said the exact opposite. Jerry was always interested.

Henry is not going to be a Cowboy, and personally to all those people who say Cowboys is nothing but a rehab institution, I would have nothing to argue with them about. Right now, we have enough risk. Henry would just be absolute stupid add. Hell, why stop there - let's go after Michael Vick. We could alwys use another RB.

And to those absolute few who seem to see something we didn't, Henry is just an average WR. He is definately not worth the risk, and thank God we will not see it happen.

I actually used the wrong quote but I still was talking about Jerry being interested. I dont think it was a HUGE interest in Pacman at first until the Cowboys started losing cornerbacks to free agency. Then I think Jerry's interest became known and I think he saw the value of getting a very good player at little risk. From the draft picks to the salary cap hit it made good business sense to make the deal. Low risk with a potential high return. But I dont think Jerry interest was high until the need became available. Same with Henry.
