...here is the excerpt from Randy Galloway's article yesterday on Romo...

Lack of proven depth at receiver.

Romo: "I read that and I think you guys have that all wrong. There will be some things happen at receiver this season you guys are not expecting. These young receivers will emerge. Several of them, in fact.

(Does one of them stand out?) Yes, and I will tell you his name, but don’t print it. Just watch and see if I’m right."

So who is Romo talking about?

I actually don't think he's talking about Hurd, Austin or the other wide receivers. I think he might be talking about Felix Jones. We've been reading a lot about him in the slot and how well he is catching the ball.

Agree? Disagree?

I think Amendola. That about covers everyone outside of the top three Wide-outs.

Maybe. Maybe it's Amendola. Somebody said the other day that he gets separation better than any WR other than TO.

I doubt it's Jones. I can't think of a single RB that was able to provide a WR-type impact in the passing game. Guys like Marshall Faulk have been great receivers, but generally, they're not out in the slot running precise patterns, getting 20 yard gains and so forth.

If I had to guess, I'd say Amendola.

But I'll take the comment with a grain of salt.

After all, he also told us that we'd all be "surprised" by Terry Glenn.

That statement isn't looking so good at this point.

He's likely talking about Hurd or Austin - you'd have to be on crack to think either Stanback or Amendola are going to come in and make huge contributions.

My guess is that he's on about Hurd as his extra weight is going to be a real help.

I would not rule out big improvement in Hurd, Austin or both. I do think with hard work a player can improve their play and with both entering year 3 I think we will see much better production from them

A couple of the fantasy magazines had Hurd listed as 3rd year players ready to make an impact. I found it interesting since he hasnt really seen the field much. Plus Jerry was talking to him about Glenn, why not Austin and others?

You may be right but Felix came to my mind since I read about him beating Hamlin deep in practice for a TD on a very nice route and catch and there was a blurb that said he actually dropped a pass in drills. The writer noted it since he said it rarely happens.

When Romo says things happening at receiver that we aren't expecting, it makes me believe you have to think outside the box of Hurd, Austin, etc.

That is a good point.

Amendola will end up with thirty catches this year (although I am more of a Crystal Meth man, myself).

I don't think it's Hurd. He'd be the obvious choice since he was the #3 last year, so there'd be no reason to hide his name. Doubt it's Amendola, because I wouldn't expect him to see the field much this year, if at all. That leaves either Miles or Stanback. Romo's been complimentary of both recently. With all the reverses they've been doing designed for Stanback, I'll say that's my guess. But then again, Garrett likes the vertical passing game, so Austin might supplant Hurd.

Todd Lowber.

He looked like he had a good grasp on the offense on Hard Knocks.

I think you are right. The unexpected would be to see way more production coming from the RB position.
