Who will be the next RB, if any, to surpass Emmitt's 18355 yards?

Does anyone here think Emmitt's career rushing record will be surpassed? One of his records that was surpassed was when Marshall Faulk beat Emmitt's record of 25 TDs in a season by scoring 26 in 2000... later that was surpassed by Priest Holmes at 27 TDs in 2003... and of course last year we witnessed Shaun Alexander doing the same beating Holmes then record by scoring 28 TDs in a season.

some of Emmitt's other accomplishments as we all know...

NFL Records

Smith is the first player in NFL history to have five straight seasons with over 1,400 rushing yards. Smith and Jim Brown are the only players with seven straight 10-touchdown seasons to start their career. With 1,021 yards rushing in 2001, Smith became the first player in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in 11 consecutive seasons and the first to post 11 1,000-yard rushing seasons in a career. He is also the NFL's all-time leader in rushing attempts with 4,409.

Smith currently holds the NFL record in career rushing yards with 18,355 and is the only player in NFL history to rush for over 18,000 yards, breaking the previous record held by Walter Payton, on October 27, 2002. He leads all running backs with 166 career touchdowns, and his 175 total touchdowns ranks him second only Jerry Rice's 207 touchdowns. The sum of his rushing yards, receiving yards(3,224) and fumble return yards(-15), gave him a total of 21,564 yards from the line of scrimmage, making him one of only four players in NFL history to eclipse the 21,000-combined yards mark.

Smith also accumulated a number of NFL postseason records, including rushing touchdowns (19), consecutive games with a rushing touchdown (nine) and 100-yard rushing games (seven). His 1,586 yards rushing is also tops on the NFL postseason chart, and he shares the total playoff touchdown mark of 21 with Thurman Thomas. Smith is one of only five NFL players who have amassed over 10,000 career-rushing yards and 400 career receptions.

Records are meant to be broken, but it's going to take a serious ironman to break Emmitt's rushing record. Maybe LT, if he can stay healthy.

Larry Johnson is on his way to breaking it if he can keep that same pace going. I imagine it will be hard to do with Shields and Roaf talking retirement. I live here in KC and that is the talk of the town here. He wont get it unless he has a Oline that can move mountains.

I think it will be hard for anyone to bypass Emmitt's record because his career lasted so long. Not many backs will get the ball like Emmitt did after they turn 30. In addition, Emmitt was extremely healthy and never suffered a serious injury that kept him out of action for an extended period of time. It's hard to say 'never', but it will take a great (and lucky) back to pass Emmitt.

LJ won't pass Emmitt. He is to much of a brusing back that likes to hit people. His career won't last long enough.

Assuming a 13 year career like Emmitt, here's what they'd have to average for the remaining years up to 13 years. The number of years remaining is in parenthesis.

L. Johnson (10) - 1593
C. Martin (2) - 2127
L. Tomlinson (8) - 1374
C. Portis (9) - 1380
Rookies (13) - 1411

----

C-mart looks out of the race. The rest would have to pretty much finish their careers injury free.

Should have had an option for none of the above. His rushing record is safe for a very long time. I don't think any current player will break it....

dont get all worked up but Portis really isnt gonna have a chance facing the THE DALLAS COWBOYS twice a year. He wont do to us what Emmitt did to the Skins. I think we all know that.

Portis will wear down. Especially if Gibbs keeps riding him like he did last year.

It takes a freak of nature to hit 15k and I doubt any of these guys sniff Emmitt's record unless we see the 2 extra regular season games added.

LJ started wayyyy too slowly and Martin is simply too near the end.

LT would be the only one with a real shot but even thats assuming he stayed healthy for 8 more years and didnt fall off anywhere.

didnt Emmitt get the record before expansion? or was it the same year as expansion? the nfl product is not even close to what it was before the Jags, Panther, Texans and the new Browns came into the league!

granted the rule changes that outlaws D... I wont be shocked if the TD record goes down again!!!

Emmitts record should stand as long as Walters did!!!

I gotta end some of this Portis love right now.

Portis = shoulder issues. His body is breaking down.

Maybe, but from a numbers standpoint, he still has a chance.

4 years for Portis. Wait about another 4 years and then see. I will bet he is gone by then.
