Any time or era.

My top 5:

Alice in Chains
Tool
Led Zeppelin
Van Halen (DLR)
Soundgarden

This latest AIC album is pretty dang good. I think this new singer Duvall belongs. He sounds a bit like Layne but he has his own way that works also.

Anyway that's my .02, who's your top 5?

Not here to judge, just interested in which bands people like the best. I like Fleetwood Mac ALOT and would've put them at #5 but Soundgarden edged them out for me. Some probably don't think they're rock, I do. If these groups make you push down a little more on that gas pedal going down the highway, ain't nothin' wrong with that, as long as you ain't speedin' of course.:D

I stopped ranking bands. I suppose if you note what band has the most songs that I like, Metallica and it's not even close. Second would probably be either Slayer or Led Zeppelin. Hmm, followed by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kiss, AC/DC, Beatles, etc

Achilles Last Stand, an absolute epic song, one of my favorites as far as 10 minute songs go. If you're gonna jam to a tune for that long it better be a good one.

My all time favorite Zep song is The Rover.

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Grateful Dead
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
The Who (or The Clash or CSNY or Elvis Costello & the Attractions or Pink Floyd or The Eagles or Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers hard to settle on a fifth after my big 4)

I thought about including Bob Dylan and whoever he was playing with at the time. Same with Johnny Cash, and Chuck Berry. But the question said "Bands" so I tried to stick with just groups.

That's such a cool attitude, even if it is a little tongue in cheek. I absolutely hate it when people are snobbish about music. It's personal preference. Personally, metal all sounds like a hack saw on sheet tin to me, but if people like it then by all means let them have it.

I also find it hilarious when people try to act "macho" based off the music they listen to. Like because their favorite band has more of one kind of sound in it it somehow makes them tougher.

That's close to what my old man says about metal, only difference is he says it sounds like a wire brush on a tin wash tub.
:laugh2: Guess I can't argue with it, just think it's a funny comparison. I'm sure my Grandpa made fun of his, what is now considered, "classic rock".

As you can probably guess from my list, I get compared to old people pretty often when it comes to music.

Iron Maiden, Metallica, G-N-R, Motley Crue and Judas Priest if I had to name 5 which is tough to do. Several others listed are right up there.

One thing I always chuckle at in threads like this are non-rock bands who make the list. Everyone has their own idea of what a "rock" band is I know.

Not necessarily in that order.

EDIT: I always enjoyed the Alan Parsons Project quite a bit.
