Metallica - not a rock band but still a fav except for St. Anger

Not a rock band? What would they be then?

Edit: Ah. Looking at Wikipedia, they're considered metal. I really don't consider them heavy enough to be metal. They're just hard rock to me.

1. Black Sabbath
2. Pantera
3. Metallica - everything pre-black album

Gets fuzzy beyond that. Bands like:

Dio
Alice Cooper - teh older stuff
Megadeth
AC/DC
Anthrax
Slayer
Judas Priest
Stevie Ray
Queensryche - Empire and before

1. Led Zeppelin

2. Pearl Jam

3. Bush

4. A Perfect Circle

5.

Can't really name a 5th.

Pearl Jam and Led Zeppelin are my go to bands and everyone else just has good songs but none seperate themselves for me.

So metal isn't rock? I am still amazed how narrow a view that is on it.

Most of it is just rock with heavier vocals, more distortion, and someone going bananas on the double pedals. So, I'd tend to agree with that on some level.

Iron Maiden(sans the Blaze years)
Metallica(up until 1991...the rest is junk)
PanterA
Judas Priest
Megadeth

All metal is rock,it's the direct link.Whoever disagrees knows nothing about the genre.

I was trying to give it a link to rock in the most simplistic form possible.

I actually like metal quite a bit. One of the bands in my top 5 is classified as death metal/folk metal. I really enjoy progressive metal like Opeth as well.

So, in other words, I'm on your side here. :D

I grew up in the 40s and early 50s big band era and watched Bill Haley give birth to Rock and Roll and saw it evolve over the years. To me, all fast rhythmatic music is R 'n R.

These days I just want something to help me feel peaceful and contented; I'm naturally frantic enough as it is so the head banger stuff just leaves me feeling restless and frayed. Good music but just not my style anymore.

The music I play on my Indian Flute will send you on a mind trip. Once a year I give a short concert at the Paint Rock, Texas pictograph site during the winter solstice celebration there when a centuries old rock painting signifies winter solstice by a sharp-pointed beam of light hitting the exact center of a painting only at local noon on winter solstice. The tranquilizing sounds of the flute add a deep ambiance to the event.

It's not a big thing as only 100 to 150 people show up. I am not a musician and I initially did it on a lark as a tribute to these ancient ones who were exterminated by the Commanches about 300 years ago but everyone loved it and they insist that I come back and play again every year.

Paint Rock is a very peaceful and solemn place that was a hotbed of ancient astronomy as there are many paintings with astronomical meanings and I can feel their spirits when I play there. Some country and western musicians bring their guitars and sing and play but I don't think their music is appropriate for that place.

Sorry for the long post but for anyone who has any Indian blood, Paint Rock is a very spiritual place and you can feel both the wisdom and the deep sadness once you stop focusing on yourself and allow the spirits to enter your mind and soul.

It is a holy place.

Life is good.

Sorry I don't classify metal and rock together.
