The way you did it makes more sense. There are literally a hundred genres you could break rock down to, some of which are only populated by obscure bands that only a specific following are aware of. It makes sense to leave the topic broad. From the answers people will be able to tell if a person's specific tastes lies more toward the pop, classic, hard, metal punk etc ....

Yeah that's exactly what I meant to do. I was interested in what folks liked, even found about some bands I haven't heard of.

Seems to me the thread has become an argument (a little bit) about what is/isn't rock. I didn't mean for that to happen. I guess what I mean is I should have more specifically said "rock in the broadest sense" in the OP.

Sometimes I ain't no good at explaining what I mean with a keyboard. Sometimes I wish I could just talk to ya'll with my voice, i'm much better that way.

I think you did fine. I think it was pretty reasonable to assume you meant rock in a broad sense.
