Who's your WR pick and why

For the sake of conversation and debate, let's say Dallas will definitely take a WR in the first round (either 22 or 28). Let's say the potential trade for a veteran fell through and Jerry was determined to take one in the first round.

And let's say all of the receivers in this draft are available. Their flaws and all.

I think every one of these guys has something that is holding them back -- Kelly's knees, Sweed's wrist, DeSean's tiny frame and attitude, Hardy's baggage, Manningham's attitude, Thomas' only one year of production, etc.

Which receiver would you pick and why?

James Hardy of Indiana because he put up decent stats with a horrible QB, is huge, and can fly. I can at least hope with a good QB like Romo that he'd develop into a good WR.

Still sticking with my belief we're adding a vet WR.

Thomas because he has the total package - height, weight and speed.

I wouldn't push him into service but insert him into some receiver packages, occasionally rotate with Hurd and Austin.

Let him learn from T.O., then watch out in 2009, 2010.

I hope Dallas trades #28 for Roy Williams of Detroit...

I hope to heck Dallas does not draft a 1st round WR... too much of a learning curve... Dallas had one helluva passing game last year and Glenn did not even play ANY significant time.

Crayton came into his own and scored an extension, Hurd was a great surprise and should be a player in this league with more experience, TO is TO (top 3 superstar WR), Witten was better than gravy...
Furthermore... Stanback is supposed to contribute this year and our GM/Owner is giddy about it from what I've read.

Dallas should pick a CB with their first pick and trade down if there are RBs still available at #28... ONLY IF they can't get a trade done with RW at #28.

Hell no to drafting WRs in the first this year.

I know you are asking for WR's at either 22 or 28, but if we pick a WR...give me Donnie Avery in the 2nd. I really like this kid and think he'd be a great compliment to TO, or next year after we get Roy Williams in FA :)

I agree with most everything you said.

But if you had to pick one in the first round this year ..... ?

I was really high on Kelly, but that story that come out about his knees for some reason got to me.

Right now, I'd really like either Sweed or Hardy. If I was forced to choose... Hardy.

I'd take DeSean Jackson.

You cant teach speed and you cant teach moves... He reminds me of a Santana Moss / Steve Smith except with a Marvin Harrison frame.

He will be a playmaker and can house it anytime the ball is in his hands.

But to my displeasure, Synder will pick him and I watch him go deep on Roy all game long, twice a year.

I'd take Hardy in the first round, followed by D Thomas (in order of preference).

Hardy has very good production in college (esp red zone), for a man his size he is fast, and he has solid hands. Finally, he still has very good upside in that he's no where near a finished product, IMO.

I'm beginning more and more to like the combo of CB and RB in the 1st, if we keep the picks.. But if we have to take a WR with one of those picks:

I would go with Sweed at #22. I'm starting to come around on him, I was leery and still am to an extent becuz of the wrist, but if it's healthy he would be my #1 option.

At #28, I go with Hardy, he's basically a Sweed clone, not as polished yet.

I'm staying away from
Thomas- one year wonders bother me
Jackson- just too small for my taste

For the Hardy voters, are you all confident that he's past this type of behavior?

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana Hoosiers have suspended their top receiver, James Hardy, for two games.
Coach Terry Hoeppner said Tuesday the suspension was a result of personal issues but was not related to Hardy's spring arrest in Fort Wayne on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime.

"James Hardy won't play the next two weeks," Hoeppner said. "Hopefully, this issue will be resolved and he'll be back in two weeks."

Hardy led the Hoosiers last season with 61 receptions for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns.

His production has declined some early this season, in part because the Hoosiers have been rotating receivers. The Fort Wayne native has caught seven passes for 112 yards and one TD in the Hoosiers' first two games, but still ranks second on the team in receptions.

Hardy avoided a trial on the criminal charges by agreeing to take part in a pretrial diversion program last month for what police said was a May 19 attack on his girlfriend and their infant son. Hardy, a sophomore, was not punished by Hoeppner for that situation.

I would Pick Texas' Sweed, who according to ESPN's Todd McShay is completely healed over his wrist injury. But if he's gone after 28 I would take Avery too. I still would take him even if I drafted Sweed. :star:

This is a "now" draft. Let's go win a Super Bowl. At the WR position, the best way to do that is via a trade.

No, I'm not confident that all of his off the field issues have been resolved.

Clearly JJ's staff is going to have to do a lot of background work on Hardy.

I like Sweed, Thomas & Hardy.

Sorry but I'm not wild about Jerry/Stephen's attitude that there too much bust factor in drafting first round WRs. I guess it was a mistake for Landry to draft Michael Irvin in the first round.

The Cowboys waited til last year & wanted draft Stephen Smith or the other guy (sorry can't remember his name) but both went off the board just before our 2nd round pick so we traded away 2nd rounder to Cleveland for their early 3rd & 4th -- leaving CB Eric Wright still on the board -- and drafting QB Stanback as a project to develop into a WR. How much can we reasonable expect from a QB turned WR in his first NFL season. Somebody better take responsibility if TO goes down & we left w/o a viable WR in our passing game. If that happens, we've wasted Romo and thrown away the 08 season. Oh well maybe our version of the Packers Fab 5 can do the job. I call them the 2nd day 4 (Crayton a 7th rounder, Stanback a 4th rounder & 2 undrafted WRs in Hurd & Austin).

I'm hoping Jerry knows something we don't know & there legit possibility he can shake Bouldin, RWilliams or Chad J. free or another quality WR we don't know about. On the other hand, he was right about drafting a QB with a high pick because of the bust factor. Jerry's got some leeway with me but only because God took pity on the Cowboys and dropped Romo into our laps.

My first choice obviously is to trade for Detroit's Roy Williams.

If they can't get that done, give me Limas Sweed. Great height, great speed, great hands, great work ethic.

For this thread, I guess Devin Thomas, although I've never seem him play a single down.

I'd wait and get one later, because I really don't like any of them.

But then, this is like asking Hos which kicker he'd draft.
