watch watch this year when Mazi Smith a interior Dlineman if he doesnt get 10+ sacks everyone call him a bust

it wont matter if hes a run stopper or takes on double teams and allows parsons and the gang run free keeping our LBs clean

the number 1 role of interior DT in any system before they rush the passer or even stop the run is to keep your LBs clean...and if he does that hes WELL worth the pick i could careless about stats
Spot on.. we need this in the worst way...we have pass rushers like a good group of them.

I will go with McClay this time since I did not pay a lot of attention, nor get into the draft or research it as I usually have.
I also take into account collectively on opinions of some comments and mock drafts I seen on here.
My biggest question is since TE and DT were our top 2 priorities apparently then we could have drafted one of the top 2 TE’s in the draft .

The question is did waiting until the 2nd round cost us or would the downgrade into second round drafting a DT then negated it.

Ideally I’d of liked to get the TE in 1st round since he was sitting there . And then move up early in 2nd round to get our DT.

Or we could have sat Pat in 1st round take our DT and then moved up in 2nd round to take TE who was still sitting there early in 2nd round .

We had ample middle round picks to throw around for leverage to move up. I’d like to see more activity from us making these little moves maneuvering our position. We see other teams doing it quite often.

they will get one again I know most here wanted Zeke 2.0 but in all fairness if they get Duece late you will have 2 backs that are capable of taking it to the house on any play....I would rather have that (As both TP and Duece do just fine in short yardage) than spend the draft capitol on a RB that you shouldn't give a second contract to anyway.
Which means we will suffer mightily late in games. Hard to win w/o the type of RB that you don't like.

The "pros" don't even appear to realize that we have a major need at RB. Scary.
Exactly. We brought in an OC that wants to lean heavy on the run game but we still have a massive question mark at the RB position. Watch, I wouldn't be surprised if we brought Zeke back. Honestly, I wouldn't be against giving the Titans a 2nd rounder for Henry, since that's a junk pick anyways.

You know who I don't trust? Jerry Jones. I need to know whether we were following board of McClay and the scouts or whether another Jonny Manziel bug crawled up Jerry's backside when the call was made....
You mean that board Jones is just itching to flash in front of any camera aimed his way? :muttley:

- Cowboys apparently were not sa enamored with Ferguson/Hendershot as we fans were,.. they wanted an immediate upgrade- Look for Scoon to start eventually year one.

- Loved the Mazzi pick. - We needed to change improve our physicality- and Hankins is only rental. We could have a Snack Harrison 2.o and Hankins pairings
as 2016 Giants did. - Chiefs wanted to move up and pick him per report.

- I'll let McClay/Quinn decide role of Overshown, though as high as 3rd rd. for a guy that is only converted to LBhybrid. ?

- Seems like we'll get mid round developmental type OG (if we even take one) and tends to spell more backup than immediate starter.

Ronald Jones is actually an underrated pickup for us. He actually had 61 rushing yds in the super bowl against KC for TB. Problem is, at 5-11/208, he appears to be another Pollard type.

30 carries is 30 carries...TP and Duece can be VERY effective in late games they may even run farther than 3 yards late in a game.

The annual screaming based on who we just drafted is nothing new. When we as fans don’t see our pet cat coming to Big D after the draft, the disappointment oozes on this forum. (I was hoping we would land Zach Charbonnet for example) Last night’s response to the Cowboys 2nd and 3rd round picks was typical of us as fans- judging our picks based on our own analysis or some other “expert” at ESPN, etc.

But serious question here: Whose draft board are you going to trust? Will McClay’s, Mel Kiper’s…or yours? Give me Will McClay every time.

Truth is, all the pre-draft hype of individual players by the media talking heads is not always close to what the real scouts think about those same players. The last 25 years of “Mel Kiper‘s Greatest Hits” must also include the incredible amount of misjudging of talent he and guys like Todd McShay and other draft gurus so often make.

So if the Cowboys followed their own draft board as they have in recent years, we should wait before declaring this draft a dud. It always takes 2-3 years to judge a draft anyway. IMO, this front office did a good enough job leading up to the draft, they could do exactly what they should do- follow Will McClay’s board.
make it a poll.

I have a lot of confidence in the Cowboys success over the past years. However, this 4th round is maddening, watching a plug and play guard like Bradford get picked, we have 8 teams ahead of us right now needing quality OL, and we are not trading up to get the kind of guard our team needs.

We'd better have a plan for a free agent guard after the draft, because the Cowboys OL has a gaping hole at LG. Is Steele going to play guard now? Something is missing here!

I also want a quality RB, like Abanikanda. I'd trade next years 3rd for an additional 4th right now, easily!!!

We would be screwed with the fans draft board. I don’t follow college football and study the players enough to trust my own board. The Cowboys have been drafting well under Maclay, so I trust there’s more than anyone.

I trust McClay’s board but I also have my own views and if they diverge significantly then sure, I will question why that is. Sometimes I will change my mind or give the benefit of the doubt and other times I may remain skeptical. McClay and the powers that be are not infallible and their initial plans may have been interrupted and they do not always adjust accordingly.

With that said, I always wait to see the guys play the games until I make any real judgement. I think the draft is always a crapshoot to some degree and anyone making definitive statements right now is a donkey ready to trip over a stone.

Not so sure I trust whomever was responsible for just this year's board. Most of the past years seemed more McClay's influence.
This year feels more Dan and McCheese influenced than going strictly BPA .
Feels too need based and reach driven without the value.
we haven't gone BPA in years and neither has any NFL team

Well we haven’t won a but just a handful of playoff games since we beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl 27 years ago. I think I could have drafted good enough to match that.

And your proof that the Cowboys - or any other NFL team - has not gone the BPA trend?
'goshan' - just state IYO the BPA mantra "is a myth" - that NFL FOs really do look scrutinize drafts that are available.

Cracks me up every year how many great scouts are on this board. It’s always wait and see a few years before judging. Guys that watch hours and hours of tape and do this for a living usually are better at figuring this out than fans who watch college football.
