Why are all the "experts" saying Dallas is gonna suck?

We haven't won anything significant in the past 20 years, Romo looks like he's on his last leg and our season hinges on a rookie QB, a rookie QB WR, and a supporting cast with a history of injury issues (Dez/Lee/Claiborne/etc.). I'm not saying I think we're going to suck this year bc I don't, but I think it's the easy assessment if you're an analyst. Granted nothing about the Eagles scares me, the Commanders are still the Commanders although they've at least made clear upgrades this offseason. The Giants are the only team where you don't really know what you're going to get bc Eli is a roller coaster.

Nobody believes in us w and w/o Romo. We have to put together a string of winning seasons before that happens.

You are taking this "the media is out to get us and disrespect us" think way too far. Nobody believes in us with Romo?

- NFL.com, in their last power poll before the start of the 2015 season had us at 6. And that actually one place lower than they had us during preseason when we were 5th.

- ESPN, in their final preseason power poll, also had us 6th last year.

- CBS Sports (Pat Kirwin) had us 7th in their last power poll before the start of the season.

- SBNation was one of the lowest, they had us at 11.

- Bleacher Report had us at 5 in their preseason power rankings.

So basically the "experts" are clueless and base your success or lack of success on what you did the previous year.

What am I missing? Everyone is slobbering over the Commanders, while forgetting the Matt Cassell lead Cowboys beat them last year. While we are still facing the Romoless issues I think we are better on defense with Scandrick, more depth at DT and Byron Jones moving the FS. Better on offense as well with Zeke and a healthy Dez.

I have not seen where all so called experts or pundits have said Dallas will suck. I see a mix bag of opinions on who will win the east and Dallas has quite a few who feel they can win the division. Cleary defense is an area that is questionable and as great as Dak did in pre season he has to prove it when the games are for real and team are game planning and focusing on pressuring him. My expectation is Dallas will win the East but I see reasons why some critics have doubts

Pretty much.

The experts look at what you did the previous year to gage what type of team you're likely to have this season. They also factor in what you did in free agency and the draft. The Cowboys were 1-11 without Romo last season and they'll be starting this season without him for at least a good portion of this year. That's going to cause some to think we're going to be terrible and it's understandable considering our record without him and that he's being replaced by a rookie QB. Our pass rush was an issue last season and not only did we not address it with a formidable pass rusher but our 2 starting DEs are suspended the first 4 games. On paper the defense looks worse than it was last year especially to open the season. Sean Lee the Cowboys best defensive player who's missed games every season is entering this season with a knee problem. The fact Romo is out and the defense looks pretty much like crap until proven otherwise, it's understandable that some don't think we're going to be any good this season.

It's rough for a lot of teams starting the season with a rookie QB. The one thing Dak has going for him is an excellent OL in front of him and some terrific skill position players around him but our defense may force him to have to do a lot more than just manage games and that could lead to a long season. Our season will come down how our defense performs because it will dictate what we have to do offensively to win games. Our defense has caused us to be a very QB dependent team. We've needed excellent play from Romo over the years because games have been put on him due to our defense. We can't stop anyone defensively and no matter how many points we score opponents are able to stay with us or come back from deficits.

It's been hard for us to put anyone away because of our lack of playmakers on defense. It's hard to stop anyone when you can't come up with a timely sack or turnover to help save a game. If Dak has to shoulder the load and win games for us like Romo has had to do, we're done this season unless he proves to be one of the most special rookie QBs we've seen in many years. If we're not able to manage him due to poor defensive play that has us in shootouts and battling from behind every week, it's going to be a long year. Falling behind and having to play catchup leads to a lot of turnovers by rookie QBs.

How can anyone really say we are better than last years 4-12 season? What have we done to improve? We did nothing in free agency...

Thornton is a complete bust...Durant is window dressing

Our best pass rushers suspended/not resigned.

Mcfadden put up 1100 yards in 11 games or so....So Is Elliot gonna be that much better to propel us???? I have my doubts.

Romo hurt again already...

As for the rest of the draft...I see little help coming.

We didn't take advantage of having one of the top waiver priorities.

And probably most of all...I have little faith in this defensive coaching staff.

Not to sound like a downer...but that is the reality we are facing...
Couldn't agree more.

The Rams had never won anything, but when they traded for Marshall Faulk, signed Trent Green as a freeagent, and drafted Torre Holt, to go along with Bruce, I knew that team was about to be good, quickly.

Greatest show on turf good? No. But playoff contenders for sure.

When I look at the Cowboys, and I see that offensive line, those runners, a stud ,TD machine and a good compliment of receivers around him, Witten and #87, to go along with what I saw from that rookie qb, no way in hell is this a bottom of the league football team. And I don't care if they had been below .500 the past 20 years, this talent will be hard to keep down!

And this team is only one season removed from a play and a stop from a title game. We're being sold short.

We're a good football team and we will continue to be.

The media is normally wrong.

It is better if the media predicts that the Cowboy will suck.

Prior to the 2014 season: Media predicts 5 or less wins. Cowboys win 12 games.

Prior to the 2015 season: Media predicts 10+ wins. Cowboys win 4 games.

I am a homer and have high hopes but any team in football with a rookie starting QB and no decent pass rushers would be expected to suck.

IMHO we can't be mad at the experts here.

But good news on the pass rush and Romo front and things change in a hurry.

What is the Cowboy's record without Romo?

Nuff said, that is why they think we are going to suck starting out.

Yes, like it or not, this is what most people are looking at, the trend of the team going out to play without Romo.
It will take a couple big wins under Dak to change that trend. ;)

In all fairness Matt Cassel has done a lot more in the NFL than Dak has. Cassel and Weeden had both faced NFL defenses with game plans and disguised coverages and blitzes. Dak hasn't done those things yet, and until he does people will assume he's going to fail - because most rookies do. Add to that the fact that our D (particularly at the DE position) is looked upon as being suspect by the most optimistic of pundits. So the thought is that we were going to win games by outscoring people, not really by stopping them. Winning 35 - 30 is harder with a rookie than a top veteran like Romo.

I think we'll be fine, because I'm a Cowboys fan and I always think we'll be fine. But I can't honestly get indignant that outsiders are looking at our situation and not predicting Super Bowl right now.
We'll just have to show them better than we can tell them.

Use Zeke like we should. Dakota has wheels and I think he will use his instincts and smarts to stay ahead of the chains.

Its that daggone defense that needs to step up their game.

And while the stats weren't as good, the coaches loved what Dak did at Seattle. Came into the game with zero notice and led two scoring drives against a top defense in a difficult stadium.

I know it's "only" preseason. But that was still the Legion of Boom out there he was playing against.
They better recognize....that was impressive. I'm very excited about this debute. I know he's gonna do well. Win lose or draw.
