Why are people calling for T-New to be replaced?

The ignorance in this thread is astonishing.

He is a good CB and would most certainly start for any other team in the league.

That only places him in the top 64. I'm sure that his pay scale is top 15. We don't have anybody to replace him, that's true, but it's also our fault.

Newman should have been in the Pro Bowl. There is plenty of film and statistical data to back this up.

2008

He could have been there again, but he got injured.

2009

He's there. Get out the straight jackets for some of these people.

Newman didn't have one of his very best years this year, but he had a real good year. He can hold his head up high.

DeSean Jackson is in your division. He's the most dangerous deep threat in the NFC. The Cowboys just beat them three straight times.

Do you win the division without Newman dogging DeSean Jackson?

NO, not even close.

Newman shut him down three straight times.

Jackson runs a 4.35.

I don't even think Newman was 100% in that second game, because he was favoring his left let a little bit one time.

Newman has at least 3-4 real good years left. I predict he will have a real, long career. I can see him playing lights out at 35.

He's worth the investment, because without him, good luck containing Jackson.

Good luck if Carolina puts their team back together. Matt Moore looks good.

Revis stated that Steve Smith and Andre Johnson were the two best WRs he has faced.

Santana Moss is still in the NFC East, and Shannahan is there now.

The Giants have good WRS.

The Vikings, Packers, NFC East, Saints (Good luck with them, too), Falcons

All these teams have big time weapons.

The Cowboys need Terence Newman.

That defense got hot last year when he came back and put it on Moss.

Who cares about his contract. There might never be a salary cap again.

You're dreaming if you think the NFL owners are going to sign any type of CBA without a salary cap or salary restriction mechanism.

What are the contract details anyways?

The true details, I don't know other than from a website that Adam has claimed it's figures are not accurate. I take his word for it, but even if it's anything as close as those figures, it's still too high a price to pay later on.

Terrance Newman:
5/20/2008: Signed a six-year, $50.2 million contract extension through 2014. The deal contains $22.5 million guaranteed, including a $12 million signing bonus.

Base salary:

2009: $895,000 ( 31 years old )
2010: $9 million, ( 32 years old )
2011: $8 million, ( 33 years old )
2012: $6.016 million, ( 34 years old )
2013: $7,600,417, ( 35 years old )
2014: $7.5 million, ( 36 years old )

Do you believe, even for a second, that T-New shut down Jackson on his own ? Without any safety over the top ?

I'd be willing to bet his metrics are in the top 15 in the league, but in a brief search, I could only find his metrics dated in April of last year. He was a top 5 CB. Even if his year was as bad as people portray, he still easily deserves to start for us and is still a solid corner.

Edit: BTW, I don't know the accuracy of this, but if you can provide something better, I'd be all for it.

Yes, if you read any of the talk from the Cowboys, namely Mike Jenkins, in reference to covering DeSean Jackson they do not double cover DeSean. They play chiefly man coverage with safeties that either man up or zone out. Watching the Cowboys secondary they normally play a man-zone coverage scheme where the CBs man up and the safeties cover deep zones, so when the WR goes into that safety zone they'd end up being covered by two DBs (of course this is only when the safeties aren't covering a TE or WR man to man). The Boys can do this because of their front-7 being able to apply pressure and good underneath coverage. When the Cowboys can apply pressure on the opposing QB with only a 4-man to 5-man pass rush their pass coverage benefits from multiple defenders being able to zone and man up on the receivers. In the end it's a combination of both the secondary and their pass rush.

Newman has played well this season, actually IMO the whole secondary up until the last game. Compared to Cowboy teams of old, this recent defensive unit has been much better when defending the pass. Have teams been able to pass on them? Yes, but not for the big chunks we were used to seeing. We don't see those big bombs being thrown against the Boys that we're used to. All in all I don't think we need a big change @ CB or even safety (if anyone is to be replaced it'd be Hamlin, but even then I wouldn't).

Dude: about the only time Newman was alone with Jackson, he blew the coverage and if it wasn't for McChunky being so inaccurate, it would have resulted in a 70 yards TD.

Just about everytime a ball was thrown to Jackson, there was a safety over the top of him.

No way Newman keeps up with Jackson right now on his own. He would have had a hard time in his prime years, much less now that he's not as effective.

That's not a knock on Newman. I don't think there's a CB in the NFL who could cover him one on one, much less shut him down. He's too quick and too fast for that.

Scandrick is not starting caliber. At least not the way he played last season.

Not necessarily. I think his problems this season were due to the fact that he had nickel back duties in addition to rotating with Jenkins at right corner. Give him one job to do, left corner, and I think he'll be good. It's going to be his job anyway eventually, why not give him a shot now?

Newman plain sucks.

Ball is better than Newman right now.

I can't wait until Newman is finally not a Cowboy. He has been overrated for years.

I'm a Newman fan also. I do think he's fallen off, but he's still a good corner.
