Why are we portrayed with such disdain by the media?

I was going to start a similar thread about how the media loves to backtrack whenever the Cowboys do well. Take the first two games:

Pre game take: The Giants are a well coached team and they have added talent. Brian Daboll will outsmart Mike McCarthy at home.

Result: Cowboys 40, Giants 0. The Giants are awful. Last year they caught all the breaks and they aren't getting them this year. Daboll is already on the hot seat.

Pre game take 2: The Jets beat the Bills. They will run the ball to take pressure off Zack Wilson. The Cowboys' offense will struggle against the Jets' defense.

Result: Cowboys 30, Jets 10. Zach Wilson is awful. The Jets' defense is not what it's made out to be.

Bottom line is the media keeps moving the goalposts so long as it belittles the Cowboys' achievements. I understand the hate for the team. But hating just for the sake of hating and ignoring obvious facts just makes them look idiotic in the end.

When the Cowboys were winning Super Bowls they were talked about very differently. Three Lombardis in four years does that. The standard was set and it's been awhile since they lived up to that standard. 12-5, one and done is big news if you're the Jaguars, not Dallas.

They're always going to talk about the Cowboys, one way or another, and Jerry Jones wouldn't want it any other way. If the Cowboys get number six the narrative will change, but that's the only way to change it. Another 12-5, one and done will just be more of the same.
Sure, and I get that we are a ratings smash. However, I would imagine we as fans wouldn't be treated with the amount of smack that we get after a while.

Exactly, and it's ridiculous. I mean, on the bright side, the players seem just as fed up with it as we do. That said, it is tiring.

Probably need more age to understand this one. Here’s the history lesson. LOL

The hate started with the America’s Team tag. (Late 70’s?) One of those ‘who do you think you are?!’ reactions. Text Schramm knew how to market the team, the popularity grew quickly… of course it helped with Tom Landry winning so much and stars such as Captain America. Before you know it, many stadiums were blue when the Cowboys came to town, and thus the hostility begins.

If you were around during the 90s dynasty, a lot of people thought that we had a bandwagon fan base. Everyone found a reason to hate us. That 1990s team was maybe the most overall dominant dynasty of the modern NFL era. Teams feared us. Since you’re young, watch the ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries on University of Miami, the most hated college football team In the 1980’s. Jimmy Johnson brought his U swag to the team as well. And once was our guys started getting caught with the party life, it was a circus. This is also the start of the sports shock jock culture with guys like Skip Bayless making a name for himself writing tabloid books about the team. But never forget that jealousy and envy makes a lot of people simply hate winners. Tom Brady has many detractors — even on this message board — and all he does is work hard and win.

I think after that, Jerry caused a lot of it with his grandstanding and merchandising. Other than Al Davis, most owners stayed in the shadows. It started with him firing Tom Landry. He probably got most of the fans back, but even now I meet people who tell me they stopped cheering for the team when Landry was removed. It’s a Midwest, Southern Baptist culture thing, you have to live there to understand it. Our owner was on TV commercials every year. I am willing to bet that Jerry Jones is the first of the modern owners too. The guys who actually had PR advisers and took lessons on public speaking. He even had a knack for the spotlight when times were darkest, like when he hired Parcells. More reasons for the haters to keep convincing themselves they were justified.

After all three of those things, Cowboys were always guaranteed ratings and sales. I think the rest of the heat comes from the media because I have heard many of them candidly talk about how they all hate that they are forced to talk about the Cowboys no matter what because it brings ratings. In other fans eyes, they see many of our stars overrated and a team that is full of themselves. And honestly, during the Garrett and Wade Phillips years, they were probably right. Coach Mac was always the right choice because of his even keeled blue collar lineman style. Are used to argue that two years ago on this board when he still had a lot of fans who didn’t like him. Bill Parcells had to change the culture, Coach Mac had to change the culture, it’s been about that since the 1990s and just another reason why fans probably don’t like us.

As I recall though, we didn't even come up with the America's Team thing. Though, the rest of what you said does make sense. I'm glad that Mike seems to be able to pipe up what they're saying to the team as a way to make them angrier. It seems that the players are just as fed up with the hate as we are, if not more.

Cowboys games and Cowboys news create the greatest market share, that's the truth.

If the media has nothing good to say about the Cowboys, then they must choose something bad to say but they cannot choose indifference.

Today, the media is not about relevance, perspective, or proper context. It's all about money.

One thing a lot of cowboys fans don't realize is just how many front runner type fans there are around the country. These are the people who root for the teams with the biggest brands (Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, etc) regardless of where they live. Everyone knows a few people like this and and they are generally speaking super annoying dweebs and reviled by most people. But the result is most people root against these teams because a big portion of the fan base is so annoying and whiny

No it was NFL Films but Cowboys certainly didn’t stop encouraging it. But this would have been Tex’s department. All three of those guys — Tex, Landry, Brandt — were outside the box geniuses and would like to see one of our local history buffs compose a list of everything they brought to the NFL. Oh.. by the way.. another reason they hate us.

Which makes sense considering the QB at the time. I just don't see why it's our fault as fans. It seems like a lot of the venom seems to be shot at us fans.

As long as the Boys keep winning they will control the narrative

In our forum predictions , I’ve got them picked as going 17-0 but not many others went that way

must be the eternal optimist in me……lol

Haha, tbfz I had us going 12-5 this season and reaching the NFCC. Mainly because we have been going further every year since Mike started here.

From the name, America's Team. That should piss anyone off who is not a Cowboys fan.
Egotistical.

Why are we portrayed with such disdain by the media? I'm a young Cowboys fan who is 30 and hasn't seen us win the SB. However, all I've ever known is the media absolutely picking at us. I ask this because, if we don't win the SB, I know what the narrative is going to be. Every other team is allowed to say they had a great season if they make it to the playoffs. However, in light of the Diggs injury, the chances of us making it to the SB is naturally going to severely drop. If we make the playoffs and go as deep as I think we still can (I still think we can make the NFCC), we are going to be portrayed as an awful team with loser fans and all that. Honestly, it's been getting more and more annoying. It's like the media makes it seem like we aren't allowed to love this team the way that we do. I love the Cowboys. I'm always going to be a fan of the team. I'm just wanting to know why it seems like, to the media, we are the one team who catches as much flak as we do. It seems like we aren't allowed to be fans of the Cowboys by the likes of SAS, Cowherd, and Shannon Sharpe.
East/ West coast bias is real

Irony is lost on so many. An Eagles fan, complaining about Cowboys fans thinking about other fans, on a place for Cowboys fans
Trouble with reading comprehension? I believe I posted a question, who was complaining? Was irony your vocabulary word of the day? Did you have to use it in a sentence?
These would all be questions, not complaints.

You should look up the words before using them. Your question would be found under concern trolling. You’re an Eagles fan complaining about Cowboys fans being concerned with other fans opinions. You are here and in this thread, ironically, because you’re concerned about other fans opinions.
