Even some our own fans hate us. It's a badge of honor. They Hate us cuz they can't be us.....and of course, because bashing the Cowboys equals ratings.

The main reason for all of the hate in the media is that negative Cowboys news generates clicks and views from both Cowboys fans and Cowboys haters, and a lot of non-Cowboys fans are Cowboys haters.

Beyond that, a lot of the hate comes because most Cowboys fans think every year the Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl and that deprives fans of other teams from enjoying the misery of Cowboys fans until the end of the season and by then, most people are focused on other sports.
How dare you! (~~checks notes to see how many times started "This is the year!" threads~~)

Why are we portrayed with such disdain by the media? I'm a young Cowboys fan who is 30 and hasn't seen us win the SB. However, all I've ever known is the media absolutely picking at us. I ask this because, if we don't win the SB, I know what the narrative is going to be. Every other team is allowed to say they had a great season if they make it to the playoffs. However, in light of the Diggs injury, the chances of us making it to the SB is naturally going to severely drop. If we make the playoffs and go as deep as I think we still can (I still think we can make the NFCC), we are going to be portrayed as an awful team with loser fans and all that. Honestly, it's been getting more and more annoying. It's like the media makes it seem like we aren't allowed to love this team the way that we do. I love the Cowboys. I'm always going to be a fan of the team. I'm just wanting to know why it seems like, to the media, we are the one team who catches as much flak as we do. It seems like we aren't allowed to be fans of the Cowboys by the likes of SAS, Cowherd, and Shannon Sharpe.
First off the talking heads get paid to create discussion and the Cowboys have a global following thanks to its past with Landry and Johnson championships and swap playoff runs. When successful franchises turn into one and done franchise all that gloating from the good old day comes back to bite you on the azz

Rusty , a big part of it is being labeled Americas Team.

Tom Landry warned us it would place a target on our backs but Tex Schramm embraced and promoted it anyway.

And we became the most hated franchise in the NFL. We are a financial bonanza for the media and it’s hacks.

Which explains why we are frequently in primetime/game of the week slots.

No, it's a blend of 'freedom of the press' mixed with the need to make money...every click = dollars, the more outrageous = more clicks it's a perpetual circle in search of money by being controversial.
Attempting to justify non-contributing elements doesn't prove instead process. Saying anything in print doesn't prove: freedom of press; monetary benefit; or that clicks make money except for a purchasing group looking for that. Talk in a circle some more...and tell me then, that I just don't understand now.

He actually tried to say that 49ers are tougher then the Cowboys because they out gained the Cowboys by 8 yards on runs after contact and then he said the old narrative that the Cowboys don’t have the money to sign Dak, CeeDee and Parsons. ESPN please come up with new stick for your talk show hosts.

No -- the phrase "America's Team" was given birth long ago by the Cowboys' GM back in the 60s. Tom Landry never liked it because it sounded too stuck up and self-important to the fans of other teams. Anyhow, Tom Landry was right about that and Tex Schramm just ignored it. Unfortunately. It's been somewhat of a burden for the Cowboys ever since. It seems advertising self-love so openly just wasn't a good look to others than our fans.
It was 1978 title for that years highlight films. Yes, NFL films named it. Tom did not like it, but Tex Schramm ran with it and used it as a marketing tool.

I’m almost sure NFL films coined the phrase “Americas team” as just another title of wrap of of last year/preview of the upcoming year show.
Yes, you are correct, I believe from 1978. NFL created it, Tex Schramm then marketed it.

28 years the Cowboys have been irrelevant, yet they demand so much undeserved attention. Its frustrating to the media to talk about a bunch of unachievers for that long.
So only winning teams or when they win deserve attention?
Is not Dallas a winning team? Excluding playoff success. Then again look at many other teams that have not had playoff success.

So maybe from last year, the media should only talk about Philly and KC. SF lost the NFCCG, so they should not get any media attention.

I think a lot of the disdain came from the media explosion as it can exploit everything and anything.

Even though some of it was there in the 80's. Because Dallas won, then the America's team thing. The media decide to love the Steelers and hate on Dallas.
ESPN came along, and though favorable as Dallas won the 3 SB's. It was persons such as Chris German started hating on Dallas.
Because he picked a Buffalo - SF SB every year for like 12 years. You could hear the disdain in his voice at times.

Then along come the explosion of social media.
Of course no SB in 28 years don't help, but it does not apply to other teams in the same situation.

It's east coast bias trash. Espn and all their scrub colleagues are fans of the New York/Pitts area teams. They show their colors all the time.

Pretty much, yes. Nature of the NFL. You pretty much have to be really good or really bad to be in the headlines. Everyone turns the channel when they start talking about some 4-13 team. No one had any interest in the Lions until they started winning.
